Hey guys, a while ago I wrote 'What Was and What Should Be' and Anya_Mae (on AO3) commented asking if I would ever write a fic where the Primes meet in the afterlife, I said I would add it to the list. So, here it is over a year later, haha. Thank you Anya_Mae, I hope you find this satisfactory :)
It's not necessary to read the other fic first, but they are the same universe.
Vulcan translations at the end.
I guess this is technically character death warning, but it's kind of the point of the fic lol
Enjoy everyone, much love xox

Spock was dying. Though, there wasn't anything in particular that was causing his inevitable death; he was in all regards healthy. Spock just knew it was time. His body was telling him that he was due for the eternal rest and Spock knew better than to argue. He had by all means outlived everyone's expectations of a half-breed, and had lived a full life packed with experiences he would treasure even beyond death.
Many people came to see him, not knowing the truth, nor did he tell them. It would have been nice to see his young counter-part and this timeline's Kirk one more time, but alas it was not meant to be. He wondered idly if they would miss him, but the voice of his own James Kirk chastised him in his mind, and he knew they would.
One morning Spock awoke in his home on New Vulcan and he could feel that this was his final day. He was tired in a way he had never been before, but he did not plead with any gods or deities to extend his life, he was content.
Spock spent the day in his garden, he read his favourite poetry, and played his lute. He recalled many of his most joyous memories, watched the sunset and made his favourite meal. The day came to a close with a cup of tea and after bathing Spock dressed in his best robe then went to bed. He clutched his wedding ring and fell asleep to the voice of his beloved Jim that he played from the small tube on his necklace.
Some time later Spock awoke. He was confused at first; he was sure that it was his time, yet his eyes opened and nothing seemed to have changed. However, his joints didn't ache, he could use his little toe again, and he no longer felt tired.
It wasn't until the bitter scent of coffee reached his nostrils that Spock realised something had indeed changed. He made to get out of bed but the door opened and Spock couldn't believe his eyes.
In walked James T Kirk, his Kirk, wearing grey sweatpants and a Starfleet Academy T-shirt, and holding two steaming mugs.
Jim immediately noticed that he was awake and sitting up in bed, he stopped where he was and beamed at Spock, "You're still just as gorgeous in the morning," he moved closer to Spock's side of the bed and put the mugs on the bedside table, "sorry, I wanted to be here when you woke up, I thought I had time to make tea and coffee."
Spock couldn't help but to stare; Jim was here, but where was here? "Jim…?" Spock said softly, awe had frozen him in position.
Jim sat on the edge of the bed, and Spock could feel the weight as the bed dipped, "I've been waiting for you, I mean we always knew you would outlive me with your Vulcan lifespan, but it wasn't really something we talked about-"
"Jim!" the Vulcan interrupted, "This appears to be my home on New Vulcan, but you are here, where am I?" Spock was thrilled to see his bondmate, but he needed to know what was going on before he allowed himself to become emotional over Jim.
"Oh, right, of course, I just assumed that you had logically figured it out…Spock, I'm sorry to tell you this, but this," Jim motioned around himself with his hands, "is your afterlife, you have moved on from the land of the living."
"So I did die," Spock thought for a moment, "are you a figment of my…afterlife, or are you the essence of James Kirk?"
"I don't know how this afterlife thing works, but it's really me Spock…" Jim smiled and held out two fingers for a Vulcan kiss.
Spock looked at those fingers he knew well, "It is truly you? Jim?" the emotions were ready to break through his carefully constructed walls.
"Ha, ashayam t'hy'la," Jim responded in Vulcan, and then he was swept up in strong arms and pulled into Spock's chest.
Spock caressed his own two fingers against Jim's offered ones, and their mouths met in a passionate kiss as a few tears slid down his cheeks. Spock moved his free hand up to Jim's temple and reignited their bond, the intensity of it jolted their bodies. They were lost in each other for a long while, not that time mattered anymore.
Spock kissed every bit of bare skin available to him, he didn't think he could ever stop touching his bondmate, "Life," he started, "without you," a kiss to the throat, "was like," lips pressed to Jim's strong jaw, "a picture," another kiss to his temple, "drained of colour."
Jim had his head tilted back, while Spock showered him with affection, "Like the sun without its warmth," Jim nodded in agreement.
"Yes, I do not know how I continued on for so long," Spock looked into Jim's eyes, "I missed you desperately."
"I know, but we have forever now," Jim told him, "I'm not sure what I expected after death, but this is undoubtedly the best outcome. Forever with you certainly sounds like heaven to me."
Spock smiled, he agreed wholeheartedly; there was nothing more that he wanted after death than to be with Jim. Their souls were so strongly bonded that it would have been illogical for them to not reunite in death.
"It is fortunate that we have so long, I have much to tell you," Spock teased as he picked up his tea, delighted to find that it was his favourite, and prepared perfectly just like he had taught Jim.
"As if I would ever forget how you like your tea," Jim told him smugly.
Spock sighed in contentment and pressed a kiss to Jim's hair; he had missed the ease of communication they had through their bond.
Jim caressed Spock's arm lazily, "Once you finish your tea we can go home."
"Go home?"
"To the Enterprise, she's waiting for us, everyone is. We had to wait for you though, you're the last, we couldn't leave without you Spock. Although Bones tried," he glanced at Spock's features as he made the joke.
Spock let out a small laugh, "I am sure the Doctor will be most displeased to find that I have finally joined you."
"Indeed, he's already grumpy that you managed to outlive him," Jim chuckled.
"It was only logical that I would," Spock stated before draining his mug and replacing in on the bedside table.
Jim gave him one last lingering kiss before standing once more and held out his hand to Spock, "Come on tal-kam sa-telsu, let's go home."
"I will go anywhere with you ashayam," Spock took Jim's hand and the world went white.
Finally, the crew of the Enterprise was whole once more; their mission completed.
