"You are his father." Kathy said with certainty as she stared in to his eyes. And at that moment, Elliot knew without a doubt that this was his son.
"I know." He replied.
She nodded. "Can do you do me a favor?"
"Of course, anything."
She paused a moment before responding. "Can you, can you tell Olivia to come here please."
Elliot nodded then, kissed his son's forehead and gave him back to his wife before exiting the room.
"How's the baby?" Olivia asked with a smile as Elliot exited his wife's room. To be honest she was physically and emotionally drained. She used almost every bit of energy and adrenaline she had to save her partner's wife and son. She knew she had a sprained wrist and probably a small concussion but she refused to be checked out until she knew Kathy and her son were okay.
Elliot took a deep breath and let it out before responding above a whisper, "Great."
Olivia slightly nodded her head and returned the smile he was giving her. They stared at each other briefly before Elliot engulfed her in his arms. He whispered, "thank you" in her ear before pulling back. "Kathy wants to talk to you."
Olivia scratched her brow and looked around him, into the room to see Kathy watching them. "Okay."
"I'm going to go talk to the doctor and then get a drink. Do you want anything?" she shook her head. "Liv?" He questioned. He knew she was probably dehydrated or needed something and was just being stubborn.
"I'll take a water." He nodded before heading down the hallway. She opened the door to Kathy smiling at her. "Hi Kathy. How are you."
She sighed, "Great. Thanks to you." she looked down at her son then back to Olivia. "Come sit." she gestured to her bed. Olivia nodded and sat down on the edge of the bed, careful of Kathy's injuries. "Do you want to hold him?"
She smiled and then looked down at her clothes, "I'd love to but I'd rather get cleaned up before I did." Olivia gestured to the blood and dirt on the front of her shirt.
Kathy nodded. "Yeah, good idea."
"So Elliot said he was going to talk to your doctor but he said you wanted to talk to me?"
"Yeah. I really just wanted to say thank you. Not just for saving mine and my son's life but for always being there."
"Kathy, you don't have to thank me."
She shook her head, "I do. Can I be honest with you?"
Olivia nodded, "Of course."
"You know I always thought that something was going on between you and Elliot." she paused and looked down, tearing her eyes away from Olivia's.
"Kathy, We never-"
"I know." Kathy cut her off. "We were talking about when we were separated if either of us dated anyone else. I had and I had a feeling he had too. I assumed it was you. I mean it made sense. He didn't tell me who it was but I would understand if it was you."
"It wasn't" Olivia said above a whisper, meeting Kathy's eyes again.
She nodded and smiled briefly. "What you two have is something I can never compete with."
"Kathy we're just par-"
She shook her head cutting her off, "No you're not. You're so much more than that. You know, at first, I though it was just a physical attraction. Then I thought it was just sexual and I could live with that but then I realized that you two weren't sleeping together. That what you have isn't sexual at all, it's so much more than that. I feared it. So I tried to get him to leave the unit. Thought that if I threatened him with a divorce he would leave SVU. And then I realized that even if he left SVU, he wouldn't leave you. And that really got me wondering what you have that I don't. Why does he care so much? Why does he care for you in a way that he hasn't cared for me?"
Olivia opened her mouth to deny but Kathy cut her off again, "You know, he says your his best friend? When he's talking to me, he calls you his best friend. He always says, 'well she's my best friend' and I can't help but to wonder why he refers you YOU as his best friend and not me. What make you so special? I could never figure it out. Not until now. Until you saved my life and brought this beautiful little boy into the world. And now I get it. It's your passion. Your drive. Your love. Not just for victims or those in need but your love for my husband. A love so pure and strong that you would risk your life to save not just him, but his family."
Olivia felt the tears coming up in her eyes as she knew that she couldn't deny Kathy's words as she stared into her eyes. "Kathy I-"
She smiled and shook her head, "You don't have to explain. I am so grateful that he has you in his life and that you're in mine too. I know without a doubt that because you love Elliot, you would do anything to keep him and his family safe right?" Olivia paused for a second before nodding her head. "Good. Because I trust you now more than ever. And I want to ask you, that if anything were to happen to me, that you would be there for Elliot? And if anything were to happen to both of us, you would be there for my kids?"
Olivia nodded, "Of course. Always." she frowned, "Kathy what are you-"
"I want you to be my kids' Godmother. I know in my heart that you would do anything to protect them because of Elliot. I know he would approve."
"Yes." she stated. "Of course." She placed her on her leg for reassurance.
Kathy smiled and let out a breath she was holding. "You know he loves you too right?" she saw Olivia frown. "He does. I can tell. He just-"
Kathy was interrupted by a small knock on the door then the door opening slightly, "Can I come in?" Elliot said holding an armful of goodies.
Olivia stood up as Elliot approached the bed. He handed Kathy a cup of ice chips, "Here." He set the cup on the bed side table before bending down to kiss his son's forehead. Then he took the four steps over to where Olivia was standing. "I know you prefer FIJI but they didn't have that so I just got you a CORE water instead."
She smiled and accepted the drink, "Thanks El."
"Here." He handed her a muffin, "I figured you should probably eat something too." he heard a laugh and he and Olivia turned to see Kathy smiling.
"See. I told you." she said staring directly at Olivia. "It's the little things."
