Ryuk froze mid apple bite as he felt the odd presence. This was something new. Something familiar but new. Something clicked. A tale he'd heard oh so long ago had suddenly resurfaced. Ryuk began cackling.
Light returned his pen to the desk and turned away from his Death Note. He raised an unimpressed eyebrow at Ryuk's bone-chilling laughter.
"What is it now, Ryuk," Light drawled questioningly.
Taking a large bite out of his semi-forgotten apple, Ryuk gave a simple reply.
"You'll be finding out soon enough."
Though Light was used to the shinigami making frequent cryptic, ominous remarks, his chest felt strange. There was something different in Ryuk's tone. Light shook himself mentally, knowing it would be damn near impossible to wheedle more from the shinigami at the moment. Besides, he had much more important issues to deal with at the time being.
That damned detective really was too smart for his own good.
Hadrian, formerly known as Harry James Potter, the Boy-Who-Lived, was very much enjoying his title as Master of Death. When Hadrian had realized his new title and the baggage that came with, he'd been a wee bit upset.
After nearly a decade spent brooding, Hadrian supposed it wasn't all that bad in the end. All the things he could learn! Places he could see and people to meet! Only after a while, he ran into a bit of an issue. Death. Not as in the entity, but the occurrence itself. Death himself was actually a quite jovial fellow that Hadrian had become rather close with since his transcendence.
No it wasn't with Death that Hadrian had trifles with. It was the way he felt after the people he considered friends died and left him, bereft and bored. Hadrian could still see them, speak occasionally but it never felt the same. Not to mention how draining it was to recall the departed souls.
Hadrian grew tired of the entire process and so he resolved himself to not form lasting attachments. Acquaintances were fine of course, Hadrian didn't wish to become entirely non-social. But letting someone in? Allowing someone to truly know him and vice-versa? Hadrian was nothing if not stubborn and he would not fail at his self imposed emotional isolation.
Death thought he was an idiot, of course. After all he couldn't really keep it up for his entire life? For the sake of Merlin's left tit Hadrian was immortal.
Hadrian also thought Death was a bastard for dropping him off in Japan with nothing more than the clothes on his back and the simple parting instructions to find Light Yagami, or he reminded himself mentally in Japanese, Yagami Light.
After confunding several shopkeepers Hadrian had himself set up with several pairs of clothing, food, and a laptop. During his search for a hotel he saw a street performer and shamelessly disillusioned himself and swiped the contents of the performer's money bag.
Finding a decent looking hotel, Hadrian stopped and got a room. Once he settled in he lay on his bed in contemplation.
"Death," Hadrian drawly called out. The man almost immediately materialized in his room. Death was a rather imposing figure. He stood tall at 6'5'', with wavy dark brown hair tied off at the nape of his neck. He had high, aristocratic features set into deep caramel coloured skin. His eyes however, were the eye-catcher. Deep black in their outer colour with magenta irises and gunmetal grey pupils.
Hadrian sighed as he looked at his only friend. He waited for the other being to speak.
"Okay so maybe it wasn't my best idea to-" Hadrian cut him off with a dark look.
"It absolutely was not your best idea to send me to muggle Japan with no warning." Hadrian glowered. "I'm honestly only upset about this magical block you know."
"There's some unusual circumstances!" Death exclaimed defensively. Hadrian glared.
Death grimaced. "I know and I'm sorry Hadrian but I can't let you leave until… well let's just say there's a few things to be done here." Death held up his hands in a placating gesture as he saw Hadrian prepare to argue, "No! I'm sorry Hadrian but I swore to Fate that I wouldn't tell you before the time came!"
Hadrian scowled. Running his hand through his hair he mentally resigned himself to playing along. For the moment.
"So," Hadrian paused, trying and failing spectacularly to hold in another grimace. "Fate is planning something? Again?"
Light was suspicious when the doorbell rang. As far as he knew none of his family expected company today. He was the only one home right now, Sayu was at the mall, probably doing drugs or some such thing. His mother was still at work. Ryuk's laughter wasn't helping either. If it could even be called laughter. If Light hadn't known better he might've thought Ryuk was giggling.
Making his way downstairs with Ryuk drifting behind him, Light opened the door and promptly froze.
Light had never known real pure physical attraction until he laid eyes upon Hadrian. He was short, but not overly so. He stood at about 5'5'' and was wearing form-fitting, dark toned clothes. His body was lithe, not overly muscled and somewhat similar to that of a swimmer. Light, though he thoroughly appreciated the teens body - for he could be no older than himself - was absolutely floored by his eyes. They were the most rich, the most vibrant shade of green Light had ever seen, and they were shining in happiness it seemed. Light didn't realise just how long he had been hungrily appraising the being in front of him until a cough broke the charged silence.
Hadrian felt the connection form instantly with the young man who opened the door. Light Yagami.
So this was why Fate had made such a big deal about the ordeal. It also explained Death's eagerness for Hadrian to start on his "task" immediately. Hadrian couldn't find it within himself to be angry anymore.
Hadrian stared at his soulmate. His other half. His viridian eyes took in the tall figure, or at least, tall compared to his disappointing 5'5''. Light had slightly shaggy, light brown hair. Hadrian wanted to know if it was as soft and silky as he imagined. He was, simply put, gorgeous. And he was all Hadrian's.
Ryuk was inwardly cooing as the two men drank in the sight of the other. After a few minutes of staring, however, Ryuk decided to stir the pot a bit.
Deciding to attempt subtlety for once, Ryuk gave a small cough, grinning as the two jumped slightly. All jokes quickly left his mind however as the newcomer focused his attention on Ryuk.
Hadrian tensed as his magic reacted at the sight of Ryuk. Though it was still partially bound because of Death's games, his aura flared menacingly around the shinigami.
Light watched, stunned beyond all thought as Ryuk dropped to his knees and bowed his head in a sign of ultimate submission to the mysterious, dark-haired beauty.
"My lord," addressed Ryuk quietly.
Hadrian's body was tense as he regarded the shinigami.
"What is your business here shinigami," asked Hadrian imperiously, easily falling into the intimidating ruler persona he and Death had worked so hard on. Death had a very large realm and, of course, he ruled it all on his own. That is, until Hadrian came along.
Though he hadn't done much exploration into Death's realm yet, Hadrian was well aware of his status as Death's pseudo-heir (for Death obviously can't die), and how beings of Death would regard him. This was Hadrian's first encounter with a being of Death outside of their realm, however.
Ryuk immediately explained the circumstances which brought him to earth, and how the death note came to be in Light's possession. He also explained some of the things he'd observed about Light's personal character and his mission.
Hadrian listened attentively. As odd as it might seem to those he knew in the beginning of his life, he found he didn't particularly mind Light's crusade. Hadrian snorted internally, remembering the times during the war when his sense of justice and morality was at an all time high.
Light watched the interaction with fascination. Knowing that Ryuk wouldn't defer to just anyone as easily as he had to the emerald eyed teen, he deduced that this handsome stranger was powerful. And extremely important.
Light shifted his weight, breaking Hadrian's attention away from the kneeling shinigami who had just spilled most of his secrets without even blinking.
Hadrian turned to the other occupant in the room, eyes calculating, but again with that underlying sheen of happiness. Hadrian gestured lazily to Ryuk, indicating that he could relax his position. Much to Hadrian's amusement the shinigami was instantly beside the kitchen table, munching on an apple that had appeared from seemingly nowhere.
"Well," Hadrian began, looking Light up and down with a predatory gleam in his eyes. "I can certainly see what Death was so excited about when he dropped me here."
Light's eyebrows rose before he could even think to conceal his reaction. A faint blush rose on his face at the blatant evaluation from the other teen. Clearing his throat, Light just barely managed to keep himself from stutter in his reply.
"Death?" He sounded incredulous he knew, but he was having a hard time associating the newcomer with… anything alike to Ryuk.
Hadrian gave a small, amused smile. "Yes," he stated simply. Light watched bemused as he faced Ryuk again, speaking quickly in an unrecognizable language. Ryuk nodded, gave a quick but deep bow, and disappeared from his spot on the floor.
Hadrian relaxed his body minutely. He walked the few short steps and ended in front of Lights' towering form. Raising his head to look Light directly in the eye, Hadrian stuck out his hand somewhat lamely.
"Hi. I'm Hadrian," he said. Hadrian bit his lip and rubbed the back of his neck sheepishly before beginning to ramble, "err- sorry about showing up like this. And for the impromptu Death Court formalities. Eternally loyal subjects and the like." Hadrian gave a small laugh, his normal graceful speech pattern was a bit jumbled. Bloody nerves, Hadrian scowled internally.
Light took Hadrian's hand, shaking it lightly and not letting go as he introduced himself. Seized by an inexplicable urge Light brought Hadrian's hand to his mouth and delivered it a tender kiss.
Light delighted in the light blush that spread across Hadrian cheeks. Never before had Light experienced such attraction, not only physically but emotionally as well. He basked in it, mentally indulging in the pure excitement coursing through his body. Something life altering was coming. He could feel it.
Hadrian tightened his hold on Light's hand and guided him to the couch; the man himself plopped down with a barely audible thud and gestured for Light to do the same.
Hadrian took a deep, shaky breath. He knew for anything to make even the slightest amount of sense he'd have to talk to Light. Tell him about things he'd shoved to the back of his mind for many years. This in itself wouldn't be exceptionally difficult - their newly formed bond was pulsing lightly within Hadrian; giving him urge to spill everything to the teen before him.
It just…. seemed like a lot to give. To trust in. But Hadrian was nothing if not instinct oriented. He knew Light would accept him, the doubts were just hard to let go of.
Everything at once. Hadrian likely wouldn't be able to stop once he'd started. Light was a genius. His genius. With a Death Note in his possession and Ryuk hanging around, he had to be decent at processing a shit ton of information all at once.
Light saw determination and a mix of many other indiscernible emotions flare in those exquisite viridian eyes and felt something inside of him pulse. Hadrian was just so adorable.
Light watched as Hadrian pulled in another deep breath, this one steadier than the last. Hadrian opened his mouth and began.
"Many, many decades ago, a boy was born. His name was Harry James Potter…"
Light was gaping. Oh, how Ryuk would be cackling if he could see his charge now.
Light turned to Hadrian who was wearing a mildly sheepish expression. "S-soulmates???" Light choked out. Hadrian nodded while looking at Light hopefully, pleading silently that his instincts were once again leading him correctly.
"Holy fuckery." Light ejaculated.
Hadrian snorted, caught off guard. "Soulmates," Light repeated, a glazed look in his eyes. "That's so-" Light found himself at a loss. Nothing could describe how violently ecstatic he was.
Reaching for Hadrian's hand Light tugged at him, which Hadrian took as a cue for acceptance and promptly yeeted himself at his soulmate. Straddling Light, Hadrian snuggled into the teen, soaking in the physical warmth coming from his body and mind.
Light wrapped his arms around the more petite of the pair and buried his face down in Hadrian's shoulder. His Hadrian. His soulmate. It would be the two of them, forever together. In an uncharacteristic move, Light grinned.
They sat for a while longer, softly discussing nonsensical topics. Light noticed the clock and hesitantly broached this to Hadrian, who had tilted his head back and looked at Light when he felt his body shift.
"My mother will be home soon."
Hadrians' eyebrows scrunched slightly as he thought. Light almost coo-ed at the sight.
Hadrian let out a small huff, "I think we can agree we should meet eventually," Hadrian dragged out the last word reluctantly - "but not yet. Right?" Hadrian looked up at Light for confirmation which he swiftly gave.
"Alright then. Up we go." Hadrian stood and before he knew it Light was being dragged upstairs.
"What?"
Hadrian almost giggled at his mate. Surely he wasn't normally this slow.
"To your room of course," said Hadrian lightly, hoping Light would be okay with this. They came to a stop outside of Light's door and Hadrian focused his eyes just beyond Light's shoulder. He knew it was irrational but he really wouldn't be able to take it if Light didn't… want him in that way.
Light saw his hesitancy and felt desire and anger flare up within. How could he even begin to doubt…
Firmly, but not in a harsh manner, Light gripped Hadrian's chin and forced him to meet his eyes. He willed all that he felt for Hadrian to show in his gaze.
"Of course, Hadrian." Light repeated meaningfully.
Hadrian let a small smile grace his features as Light opened his door and guided them inside. Without taking his eyes off Light, he commented off-handedly, "nice place you've got here."
Light made a small noise of acknowledgment while advancing on Hadrian predatorily.
Hadrian's head was spinning. The backs of his knees hit the bed. Hadrian used the last working cells of his brain to toss a wandless silencing charm at the wall.
"Light," he said breathily, just before his lips were claimed for the first time by his soulmate. Light was inexperienced yes, drastically so in comparison to Hadrian, but made up for this in passion.
Hadrian sighed softly into the kiss and moved a hand to Light's hair. Gods it was softer than he'd imagined. Feeling Light nibble his bottom lip, he greedily opened his mouth and tangled his tongue with Lights', shocking the younger with his intensity.
Light groaned lowly and surged forward, making Hadrian fall onto the bed and bounce slightly. He sat there breathing heavily, face flushed and lips swollen, beckoning Light to reclaim them. He moved to do just that, but stopped as Hadrian kicked off his shoes and kneeled on the bed.
Hadrian was nearly face to face with Light now. He pecked his lips lightly and giggled as Light tried to deepen the kiss. Instead of obliging, he moved his hands to the buttons of Light's school shirt, unfastening the first one and glancing at Light to make sure it was okay.
Light nodded quickly, appreciative that Hadrian was being considerate of his unfortunate virginal status. Unsure of what to do, Light stood still and watched with bated breath as Hadrian undid the rest of his shirt buttons.
Hadrian unfastened the bottom button and reached back up to push the shirt from Light's shoulders, his eyes greedily drinking in every revealed inch of his mate's pale skin.
Light flushed a light pink at the unexpected scrutiny before grabbing the bottom of Hadrians' shirt and quickly pulling it over his head. Light cupped Hadrian's face and brought him into another searing kiss as he laid both of them onto the bed.
Light broke off the kiss and Hadrian sucked in a breath only to moan loudly as Light ravaged his neck. Light smirked and nipped at Hadrian's collarbone before settling at the hollow of his neck and setting to work on marking Hadrian.
He relished in the little gasps and shudders coming from his soulmate as he moved down to his nipples, twisting one experimentally while sucking lightly on the other.
"Oh- fuck," Hadrian gasped out. "Light- oh- please."
Light came back up towards Hadrian and kissed him softly, one hand moving down to brush against the button of his pants. Slightly frustrated, Hadrian waved his hand and their lower halves suddenly had no separation.
Hadrian whimpered and moaned as Light began moving against him. Light reached down between the two of them to stroke Hadrian's length tentatively, feeling emboldened by the noise he let out when Light stroked him firmly.
Biting his lip Light nuzzled into Hadrian's neck, kissing him just below his ear. "Fuck- I need to taste you Hayd-" Light growled out. He proceeded to do just that.
As Light sucked and bobbed his head, Hadrian writhed above him. "Light, I'm gonna- you need to prepare me. Please."
Light lifted his head to look at Hadrian. And hell if that didn't make him almost come right there- Lights' lips were swollen, red, and there was a line of saliva connecting his mouth to Hadrian's arousal.
Hadrian flushed even more, unsure how to explain to Light what he needed to do.
"I- just, watch me, okay?"
Hadrian spelled himself clean and conjured a handful of lube - it had been a while. Light watched with wide eyes as Hadrian hooked one elbow around his knee and spread his other leg as far away as possible.
Rubbing his fingers together first to spread the slick substance out more, Hadrian rubbed his index finger across his pucker. He pushed in a bit before retreating and repeating the process.
Carefully, he added his middle finger and began scissoring his fingers to stretch himself as efficiently as he could. His ring finger soon joined the other two and he was rolling his hips in an attempt to better accommodate them.
He curled his fingers slightly and arched at the first hit of his prostate, but before he could do it again, he felt a hand on his wrist. Light's pupils were dark, blown completely with lust and Hadrian shivered.
Hadrian's hand was removed by Light, and placed onto his - rather impressive for a teenager - length. Light pumped their hands together, spreading the leftover lube on himself sensually.
Light paused and leaned down to kiss Hadrian possessively. They both shifted and Light positioned himself at Hadrian's entrance.
Hadrian nodded at the question in Lights' eyes and wrapped one leg around his, urging him forward.
They groaned in unison as Light entered Hadrian, slowly, and not stopping until he was flush with Hadrian's bum.
"Bloody fucking hell Light if you don't move right n-" he cut off into a yelp as he pulled out harshly and drove back in.
"Yessss, oh!" Hadrian slipped into parseltongue and arched his back when Light shifted his angle and rammed into his prostate head-on.
Hadrian cried out and began babbling incomprehensibly as Light gripped his hips, almost bruisingly and started vigorously pounding in and out.
Hadrian pulled in a sharp breath and gripped Lights' shoulder and neck, pulling him down for a rough kiss which was eagerly reciprocated. Hadrian broke it off and let out a breathy moan as the tension in his body suddenly snapped and uncoiled, he clenched around Lights' length almost impossibly tight. Light let out a low groan and released hotly inside of his soulmate, while watching Hadrian do the same onto their stomachs
Breathing heavily, Light looked into those green eyes with an already unfathomable devotion, and he smiled.
Hadrian ignored the mess of their bodies and locked his arms around Light's torso, hugging him close as they cooled off.
Suddenly Hadrian felt a shift in the air and scrambled quickly for the sheets as Death popped in, a grinning Ryuk in tow.
"You cannot be serious right now."
