Hey guys, new story! I thought I'd get this first chapter out now as I really couldn't keep it inside me anymore. However, I don't think I'll be posting a new chapter until after I have finished Collision of Fate. Anyway, enjoy this first taste!

Important info for this story:

Eventual Kataang – don't worry!

Maiko, Sukka and Toph + someone eventually I think (we'll see)

I want to keep most of the traits of the original characters, cos they're so good anyway, but with Aang I'm making him a bit less worried and anxious around Katara and a bit more 'aloof' as Sokka would say. There will be some drama in this story, just need to figure out what it will be.

Bending exists!

Aang is the Avatar by the way (he does know)

Sokka – 18

Suki – 17

Zuko – 17

Mai – 17

Aang – 16

Katara – 16

Toph – 16

Intrigued

Katara was intrigued. Nothing more, nothing less.

At least that's what she told herself.

That didn't mean she couldn't feel a bit envious of all the other girls. The girls who got to openly flirt with the new boy whilst she was in a relationship with a guy she wasn't sure she loved anymore – that she wasn't sure she ever loved.

It had been a pretty normal first day of school. She and Sokka had left the house in a hurry, cramming their breakfast down in the car. Once they had arrived, they had met up with their usual friend group. Katara mainly caught up with Zuko and Mai as they had been gone for the whole summer, whilst Sokka gave most of his attention to Suki and Toph.

After a while, and much to the chagrin of her friends, and especially her brother, she left that group and wandered over to Jet's. The so called 'freedom fighters' weren't very kind to Katara, but as long as she was with Jet, their 'leader', she didn't have to worry about much. Her relationship with Jet had become strained over the summer vacation, but he was either too dumb to notice or didn't care. She put a lot of energy into the relationship and got very little in return. She was beginning to think that Jet was only with her so he could parade her around. Whilst a large part of her was disgusted by the idea, a very small part enjoyed being seen as a thing of beauty – though she would never admit that.

Katara shared her first class of the day – history - with Jet and was far too caught up in his lips to notice the teacher announcing that a new student had joined their class. She was also too caught up in Jet to notice all of the girls in their class swooning over said boy.

She had gotten through her next two lessons to arrive at the gym for PE. Unfortunately for the Water Bender, she was chosen as part of the first group to do the United Republic of Nations Standardised Fitness Test meaning she was not in the gym with most of the class. When she got back to the locker room, all she heard was the other girls in her class gushing over the new boy. She found it within herself to hold back her laughter at some of her classmates very explicit daydreams. If she was being honest, she wasn't really interested in the new guy. Firstly, she was determined to work through the current rough patch in her relationship with Jet and, Secondly, she was sure that this new guy was some sort of fad – he would reveal some sort of flaw and would be forgotten by most of the girls in an instant. Still it was interesting to find that this guy was already such a hit.

It wasn't until she got to the cafeteria that she realised how much of a 'hit' this guy was. The space was abuzz with talk of the 'new boy'. Even some of the guys were talking about him. Katara could no longer deny that she was surprised, most new students were isolated and forgotten, and as cruel as it was, Katara felt no real obligation to get to know them. But this new kid, well he was clearly someone worth talking about. He was even being talked about by Toph.

Katara had opted to sit at the table with the gang as Jet was already serving a lunchtime detention and the Waterbender had no desire to spend her lunch hour with the Freedom Fighters. Needless to say, she was surprised when Toph Beifong, a person who could take months to win over, was speaking about this new guy – who was apparently called Aang, though Toph had already started calling him Twinkletoes, like they were old friends.

"So, what's he like?" Zuko asked. He was also interested in Aang apparently.

"Who, Twinkletoes? Super chill guy, very mellow, a good laugh, didn't even mention my blindness" Toph replied, leaning back on her chair.

"Wow Toph, if I didn't know any better, I would say you have a crush" Suki teased.

"HA!" Toph belted out sarcastically, but she took the joke in good stride, "Nah, Twinkles is nice, but he's not exactly someone I see as boyfriend material, he's quite evasive, being an Airbender and all" that last comment definitely earned a few raised eyebrows.

"An Airbender, huh?" Mai asked. "I didn't know they went to regular high schools" Sokka added.

"They don't," Toph replied, "but he's already a master and decided he wanted to spend the last two years of school here in Republic City rather than at an Air Temple". Katara's intrigue in this boy had suddenly shot up exponentially since the conversation had started. She had never met or even heard of a master below the age of 18. He must be a prodigy.

"You should invite him to sit with us" Sokka said thoughtfully.

"Oh, I already did" Toph responded. Sokka was slightly taken aback by this, was this guy too popular to sit with them already?

"What? Is he too cool to sit with us?" Sokka said rather indignantly.

"Calm down Snoozles, he had to take an important call with his Temple Elder, he'll sit with us tomorrow" Toph responded back in a snappy tone, slightly annoyed that her new friend was already being ridiculed. Finding a sudden lull in the conversation and tired of observing, Katara decided to engage in the conversation.

"Well he certainly won't have any trouble finding a girlfriend. All I could hear about in the locker room was the 'new boy'. Did he mention anyone he's interested in Toph?" Katara asked, enjoying the gossip.

"Funny you should say that Sugar Queen," the Earthbender started with a smirk, "he mentioned something about a 'very pretty' girl in his first period history class" she finished, her grin breaking into a full-on smile. Katara blushed, immediately understanding what Toph was implying. The rest of the group, however, didn't catch on.

"Did he say who it was?" Suki asked. Toph's smile widened even further, much to a crimson faced Katara's chagrin.

"Well, he didn't know her name, but Twinkles did describe her to me," Toph started, her smile now at full width as she could feel Katara's heart beating erratically. "He said she had tan skin, blue eyes and these 'adorable' hair loopies" The group had suddenly caught on and were holding back their laughter as Toph finished, "said it was a shame though 'cos she was sucking face with some brown hair dude with a toothpick in his mouth at all times" she finished.

The group, including, no, especially Sokka, burst out in loud laughs, while Katara burnt bright and sunk into herself. She normally would have had one of her infamous tantrums at all of the teasing going on around her had she not been contemplating the news that had just been laid upon her.

She continued to consider what she had been told as she made her way through her next class. Katara walked into her final class of the day, geography, and made her way to a seat at the back of the classroom where she could be left alone with her thoughts. She was mortified when the new boy, Aang, walked into her class and introduced himself to the teacher a few minutes afterwards.

Despite her face looking like a tomato, Aang still flashed Katara a cool smile. The smile nearly made Katara faint, it was as bright as the sun. Thankfully for Katara, the seats around her were already taken and Aang sat at the front of the classroom, sparing her from an hour of embarrassed blushes.

As she calmed down and the lesson began, Katara suddenly understood all the hype. From her seat, she could only see half of Aang's face, but that didn't stop her from blushing, his face was beautiful – which was not a word Katara thought she would ever use to describe a boy. She also couldn't help but check out the rest of him. He was wearing a long sleeved, baggy white t-shirt, not allowing her to visualise what he looked like with it off. However, judging by his neck, Katara assumed that he was athletic and muscular, but not bulky or over-exercised. His shorts did not cover up a lot of his legs, and Katara revelled at the sight of them. His thighs and calves were toned and looked delicious. Katara darted her eyes back up to Aang's head to look at his hair and was not disappointed. In a well-kept arrangement, most of Aang's short black-brown hair sat on top of his head. The back of his hair was cut in a skin fade and where it grew past a few inches on top, it started to curl. What stood out to Katara the most however, were the blue arrows that coiled around his arms and legs, and shot out of the his t-shirt and up his neck, clearly curling over his head as it was revealed that one of the arrows ended on his forehead, pointing towards the space between his eye brows. Normally Katara thought of tattoos as ugly and pointless, in fact she had gotten in a fight with Jet when he got one on his forearm. However, Katara found Aang's tattoos sexy and adding to his mystique.

Unconsciously, Katara began drawing comparisons between Aang and Jet. The Airbender more than matched her boyfriend in the looks department. Actually, he probably exceeded him. Katara always thought that her 'type' was someone with dark skin and long hair, but, by the way Aang was making her feel without even looking at her, she had clearly been mistaken. The Waterbender was also aware that it was quite shallow for her to find someone interesting purely based on looks, but Aang solved that issue. Though she was often too caught up in admiring his marvellous body, she caught snippets of what he was saying and was pleased. He often had the entire class, including the teacher; Mr Piandao, who was often quite stern, laughing. He was passionate when he spoke about his answers to the questions they were given and was always engaged in what Mr Piandao was saying. So basically, what Katara had discovered was that the new boy, Aang, was probably the best looking and nicest person she had ever been around. And he liked her apparently, a notion that sent butterflies through her stomach.

She, like many of the other girls in the class, was snapped out of her desire-fuelled staring as Mr Piandao began to wrap up the lesson. Katara suddenly felt a surge of guilt when she realised what she had done. She often found Jet staring at other girls, even when she was right next to him, but she was better than that. And even though she liked Aang, and as Toph revealed, Aang found her pretty, she still knew relatively little about him; a dangerous combination. So, she reserved herself a bit. Right before the bell rang, Katara said to herself:

"This guy is trouble"

What she was surprised by was that right after that, she realised that whatever trouble he was, she didn't mind being swept up in it one bit.

Nevertheless, she told herself that she was intrigued, just to comfort herself from her realisation.

One thing was for sure in her mind. She couldn't wait to see what happened tomorrow.

What do you guys think? All of the important info is at the top of the chapter – make sure you check it out.
