King and Coralian

Chapter 1

The call of the king

So, I've been playing FFVX for a bit now and what with how you spend the entire opening of the game in desert and their are multiple uses of the word 'king' all over the place, my brain made the connection and I thought I'd give this a shot. Now, timeline wise this is just a short while after Renton left the Swan. With that said... Let's kick it up!

The sun burned down over a desert landscape as a young brown haired boy wearing a red and white jacket walked down a dirt path.

"What am I going to do?" The boy asked as he pulled out a picture of a red eyed girl with viridian hair.

(Flashback)

Within the hanger of a white and purple airship, the boy sat alone while looking at the photo.

"So, what do you plan on doing now, Renton." The boy heard before he looked up to see a large man wearing a light purple pirate shirt.

"I don't know, Charles. I just don't know what I'm supposed to do." Renton replied while squeezing the picture. "I don't know if I can go along with hurting Eureka. But I don't want to fight you or Ray." He said, gaining a sigh from the larger man.

"The way I see you it, you have three options. Stay with us, warn Gekkostate, or step away all together." Charles said as Renton nodded at the point made.

"Of coarse, you know the problem with having to make the choice." Renton pointed out.

"You can't make it while you're here. Staying here could shift the choice to us when the time comes and on the other side..." Charles led.

"It makes me a threat if choose Eureka over you guys." Renton said with a sigh. "The only thing I can do." He said.

"Which is why you already have your bag packed." Charles noted.

"You gonna try and stop me?" Renton asked, desperately not wanting to have to fight his way off the ship.

"A man has to find his own way in this world. I can't stop you from doing that." Charles said while putting a hand on Renton's shoulder.

"Thanks, Charles." Renton said before standing up. "Do, me a favor. Give my Regards to Ray. She doesn't exactly strike me as a person who does well with goodbyes." He joked.

"You hit the nail on the head with that one." Charles said before he and Renton shared in a hand clasp before he pulled the boy in to a hug. "Take care of your self." He said before Renton nodded and jumped out the escape door of the ship and on to his REF board.

(End Flashback)

Renton continued on his walk while looking at the picture, all but praying for a sign of what he was supposed to do.

"Renton." The young boy heard a voice whisper.

"Who's there?" Renton asked, feeling cautious yet oddly at ease upon hearing the voice which continued to call out to him.

"Behind you." The voice said before Renton turned to see a group of wildcats running at him. His mind going blank with fear, Renton's body began to move on its own and he was suddenly running faster than he ever thought was capable of. "Turn left." The voice said, Renton taking every instruction until he eventually came to the mouth of a small cave.

Moving to the back of the cave, Renton came up a large white.

"What is this?" Renton asked as he thoughtlessly put his hand to the door which then began to glow before it opened in to a small tomb where a white broadsword with a wing on the guard rested on top of a casket in the middle of the room. Renton found himself compelled to reach out to the weapon which then began to glow silver before floating up and flying in to Renton's body, a rush of power seeming to surge through him. "What just happened?" He asked while looking at his hands.

"Your birthright." The voice said before the spirit of man with black hair and a thin beard clad in an all black suit.

"Who are you?" Renton asked.

"My name is Noctis Lucis Caelum. Your great-grandfather." The man said, Renton's eyes widening at the news.

Noctis then went on to explain the history of his life. He was the final king of a kingdom called 'Lucis'. He traveled the entirety of the land with his three best friends at his side after the kingdom fell. He fought countless battles, gathered the weapons of the twelve greatest kings of Lucis, was forced to see the woman he loved die in his arms, and finally, he sacrificed himself to bring the light of the sun back to the world.

"That's quite the story." Renton said while sitting down at the wall of the room. "So, did you only call out to me 'cause I approached the tomb?" He asked.

"Not quite." Noctis said with his eyes closed. "When I sacrificed myself to stop Ardyn and redeem the sins of our ancestors, I chose that our Caelum name should go with me. That's why your Great-Grandmother Iris decided on the name Thurston when your grandfather was born. However I have watched this world fall back in to war. People killing each other for the most foolish reasons." Noctis said in sorrow before placing his ghostly hand of the shoulder of his great-grandson. "The people need a symbol. A leader to show them a better way. They need a king." He said.

"Do you really think I can that king?" Renton asked, feeling doubtful due to the fact he couldn't even protect the girl he loved from being horribly scarred.

"The blood of the kings of Lucis within you and soon enough you will have their powers too. You also have a kind spirit that will inspire others to follow you." Noctis said before pulling back. "Now for the last gifts I have to give." He said before raising his hand up before a bright flash of light appeared in the room, Renton grinning widely when he saw what it was.

(Meanwhile)

High atop the lay lines, Eureka, the girl from Renton's picture was lying down alone in a small room while clutching on to a set of red and white sweats.

"You miss him, do you not?" A female voice asked before Eureka shot up to see a cyan cloud floating in front of her which caused the air in the room to go to freezing.

"What are you?" Eureka asked in fear.

"One who aids you the one for whom you ache." The cloud said.

"What do you mean?" Eureka asked before a silver trident with golden cloth wrapped around where it was supposed to be gripped appeared in front of her.

"Take this within your hands and the answers shall be yours." The cloud said before Eureka nervously took the weapon in her hand. Her eyes then widened as she had a vision of a much older Renton clad in an all black suit holding the hand of an older version of herself wearing a white dress as the two of them sat together on large throwns while a large crowd of people cheered.

"This is the future that you must fight for. A future where you and he shall stand together and lead your people to a time of peace." The cloud said before beginning to fade. "Good luck and should you ever need me, call out my name. It is..."

(Back with Renton)

Renton, now clad in all black outfit was driving along the desert in a crimson and silver coverable with ornate stripes on the hood and back with a black and white Dog sitting next to him.

"Okay, Umbra. Where do you think that we should go first?" Renton asked while holding up a map before the Dog pointed to a spot on it with his nose. "Alright then. Let's get going." He said before driving in to the horizon.

Well, there you go guys. I hope you enjoyed this chapter. Next time, Eureka trains with the Trident of the Oracle while Renton seeks out the second Royal Arm and meets one who would stand with him. As for which arm, I'd like to ask you guys to vote on that. Until then and as always... Keep on keeping on.
