Prologue

I was racing through the trees with my best friend, Cinderice, me and Cinder are almost complete opposites, but absolutely inseparable. She's smart and enjoys herbs, with gentle words. Though, don't be too quick to judge her, because she's blunt and head on. I, am, however, much more evasive.

"Hay, Storm, where are we going?" Cinderice asks, as I turn back to look at her with a cheeky grin on my face. She tilts her head to the side and I motion with my tail for us to stop.

"We're just going for a midnight flight, that's all" I say, and Cinderice shakes her head with a fond smile on her face.

"Really? I think you have something else planned, don't you Firestorm?" She asks, and I pout and stick my tongue out at her. Cinderice can read me like a book, so I can't hide anything from her. I sigh and we leap into the air, flying in the direction of the old NightWing Kingdom.

"See? I knew you were planning something" Cinderice replies, with a bright grin on her face. I just roll my eyes in response.

"We are going to be in so much trouble" Cinderice says with an exaggerated sigh.

"Yep" I say, turning back to look at her with wide icy blue eyes. Cinderice just sighed and shook her head in exasperation.

"Yep, seriously? That's all you have to say?" Cinderice exclaims, with a flick of her tail and an exaggerated sigh. I just laugh quietly at her in response.

Cinderice was about to open her mouth to speak, but lightning suddenly crackles in the sky and thunder rumbles in the distance somewhere close by. A heavy rain then begins pouring down. Great. What fun. "Shoot" I muttered.

"We should camp for the night, the sun's almost down and we can't see anything anyway. The storm clouds are too thick." Cinderice nods, and I scan our surroundings. We flew down to the forest forest floor and it is then that I spot what I think is an abandoned fox den. It's in-between two rocks, and it leads underground. I slowly walk over, and sniff it. I'm mostly sure that it's abandoned.

"Cinder, I found an abandoned fox's den that we can stay in for the night. Come on, let's go inside." I say, turning to look at Cinderice who looked unsure about the whole thing.

"A fox's den? Firestorm, are you crazy?" Cinderice exclaims, giving me a pointed look. I sighed and replied calmly.

"Listen, Cinder, it's either this or get soaking wet." I explained, and Cinderice gave a long, drawn-out sigh before she reluctantly nodded and we slowly trotted inside the den.

"I think it's safe," I call her over, and we trot into the den. Its warm and earthy smelling. But what I'm happiest about, is it's dry. We both shake to dry off, though as much as she tried to shuffle her ice spikes, they wouldn't settle due to being wet and soggy from the rain. I sighed and tried to straighten my own ice spikes, but to no avail, I sighed softly and stared up at the sky.

I dug a small whole in the dirt to lay in, and she does the same, right next to mine. We both curl up, and waited for the storm to pass, but the flashing of lightning and the rumbling of thunder meant that the storm wouldn't be letting up any time soon.

"UGGHH! This storm seems like it will keeping for for three moons" Cinderice screams, clearing up at the sky while I just sighed and curled my tail around my paws.

"I hope it ends soon, I don't want to be stuck here for three moons" I mutter as I stare at her with small frown. She sighs again and lashes her tail from side to side in annoyance.

Luckily the rain doesn't bother me or Cinderice, due to us both being part IceWing, we're used to weather that is at least below freezing most of the. I'm glad that I'm par IceWing, I have sharp claws and a deadly cross breath to defend myself with, if I ever were in trouble.
