Mistoffelees wasn't expecting feeding the kittens to be such a chore.
It wasn't that much of a hard job at first. All he needed to deal with was the soft sting of pain from his kittens' sharp claws and strong, toothless little mouths. And the thing he had to worry the most was that Partriben, the litter's runt, was eating just as much as his siblings.
But as their ears and eyes opened, legs and arms allowing them to tumble and crawl around the den, feeding time became harder to manage. Mistoffelees was so very glad that his kittens were needing less food as time passed, which meant they would soon be ready to eat something else besides milk.
Mistoffelees had the luck of having eight nipples for seven kittens, but that didn't mean the kittens saw things the same way he did.
Nearly reaching their fourth week, the litter was much more active than before, rolling around and pushing each other whenever they were given a chance to latch onto their dad. Which made feeding time a chore to work through, for both the kittens and poor Mistoffelees.
With the guidance of Jennyanydots, however, Tugger and Mistoffelees started working on a system to make sure all kittens could eat their fill, without much kicking or hitting, or invasion of anyone's space; and that Mistoffelees' poor nipples weren't suffering too much. It made things easier. But, of course, two of the most stubborn cats in the junkyard, had to give birth to some of the most determined and stubborn kittens anyone had ever seen.
"Okay, guys, who's hungry?" Tugger chuckled, hearing Pysia's loud mewl overpowering her siblings. He reached for their blanket, trying to pull them closer to the bed, only to have Pysia and Calicary start to grab onto his arm. "Hang on, you two!"
"Partriben goes first." Mistoffelees shook his head at his kitten's "desperation". He reached for the little ginger cat who mewled softly, turning wide, still unfocused blue eyes to his dad, slowly understanding what was happening.
"The small one goes first, then everybody else can go… I know, I know." Tugger said as if he could reason with his litter, while Mistoffelees put Partriben in place. Pysia let out a loud mewl with something that sounded almost like a word and Tugger cringed. "I know!"
"Pysia always acts as if they have never been fed before…" Mistoffelees rolled his eyes, reaching for the little queen. She leaned against his fingers, letting out a loud chirp. "I know, right? No one ever fed you." As if knowing what her dad was talking about, Pysia took a few waddling steps out of her blanket, almost falling on her face. Mistoffelees couldn't help but chuckle, turning to his mate. "She can come here already, since she's the noisiest of the bunch."
"Alright, hang on." Tugger grabbed the little queen, who squealed at the sudden touch, and took her over to Mistoffelees' left side. As expected, she didn't need much coaching to find what she was looking for.
The tux let out a soft hiss at his daughter's energy. He had never expected kittens to be so strong, while still so delicate. He didn't remember if any of Victoria's kittens had been just as strong, but he was sure that having one of them sucking on your finger was a totally different experience from having them sucking on your very tenter, very swollen chest.
"Let's let Asteria go here… Here we go." Tugger continued organizing, grabbing Asteria and putting her beside Pysia, knowing that both oldest queens were strong enough to hold their spot and not end up being pushed aside.
As soon her sister was put beside her, Pysia raised a paw and pushed Asteria's head away, as if needing more space.
"Alright, you're next, little Nyx…" Tugger grabbed the black kitten, who simply blinked up at him, silent as always. Once sat next to Partriben, he curled around himself, ignoring the ginger kitten and focusing on his own thing. "The politest of the bunch."
Mistoffelees giggled, before noticing how Partriben had stopped kneading his skin. He grabbed the little kitten with Tugger's help, resting him on top of his white chest. Partriben whined, keeping his eyes closed shut and curling around himself with a yawn. Mistoffelees smiled down at him, caressing his small body and feeling how he was already full.
"Good job, my little Partriben." He licked the kitten's head, handing the runt to his mate, who laid him back on the fluffy blanket, beside his much larger brother who was looking around, as if searching for something.
"Who's next? Are you hungry, Ani?" The Maine Coon smiled at the kitten who just so happened to look exactly like him. Anália reacted to his father's voice, turning his eyes to the tom and calling back softly, somehow shy.
Mistoffelees repositioned himself carefully, not wanting to disturb the trio. He pried the oldest queen away as gently as possible, hissing as she continued holding on to him.
"I think you've had enough already, Py…" He decided, finally being able to free himself from his daughter's mouth and paws. She mewled indignantly in something that almost sounded like a "no".
Tugger grabbed the queen, taking pity on his mate, and laying her back on the blanket, beside little Partriben, who was already snoozing. He turned to Anália, carrying the kitten to Mistoffelees and putting him where Partriben was before; only to notice a little yellow and brown thing waddling towards the tux.
"Wait! You already ate! Can you believe this?" He shook his head, watching in disbelief as Pysia crawled back to Mistoffelees. "It's supposed to be your sibling's turn!"
"Oh, are you hungry again? The others didn't even eat yet." The magical cat tried stopping his daughter, but she just mewled loud, kicking and reaching for his second lowest nipple. Mistoffelees sighed, deciding it was best to let her have her way; he knew she would only stop once getting what she wanted. "Alright… Someone would think we never fed you in your whole life…"
Pysia resumed what she was doing before, ignoring the kicks she received from Asteria once she entered her sister's space. How ironic.
Mistoffelees and Tugger exchanged a look, but both couldn't help but chuckle and shake their heads at their determined little queen.
"Alright, let's give someone else a chance." Mistoffelees said, smiling at the little tux that had rolled off to the side of his leg. She cried out, getting her fathers' attention. "I know, that's not fair! It's supposed to be your turn!"
Tugger reached for Hekate, noticing how she nuzzled his mane, maybe searching for something he couldn't give her. He quickly rested her beside Nyxen, before reaching for Asteria, who seemed to be growing annoyed at her sister's movements, losing focus on her meal. Mistoffelees hissed when the little queen pulled away, smacking her lips together and mindlessly – or not – swatting at her sister.
"You okay there, Sparkles?" Tugger asked.
"Yeah..." Mistoffelees rolled his shoulders, making himself more comfortable. He sighed, smiling up at his mate. "This is hard work… But we did sign up for it, so I can't really complain."
"Exactly." Tugger chuckled, laying Asteria together with the others, before grabbing Pysia one more time. "Alright, that's enough, missy. And before everyone starts freaking out, let the others have their food."
Mistoffelees watched as his mate laid the loud yellow queen aside, grabbing their little black and white kitten and handing him over. The tux sat Calicary near his chest and the kitten went straight to work without the need of any help.
"Okay, you're done…" Tugger stated, putting Nyxen back into the fray. He glared at Pysia who was wobbling back to Mistoffelees. "And you already ate twice! How are you still hungry?! Yeah, you ate twice!" He repeated once Pysia mewled back at him.
"Wonder who she took after…" The magician rolled his eyes. "Alright, let her have a third…"
"And then I'm the one who spoils her!" Tugger huffed.
Mistoffelees glared at his mate, but a smile on his face betrayed his annoyance. He let Pysia crawl to his side one more time.
The den quieted down, with Nyxen and Partriben cuddling together and Asteria playing with Tugger's tail, while their siblings continued drinking their fill. Anália was the first one to be done, yawning against Mistoffelees' chest and kneading him one last time, trying to find a comfortable position to sleep in; the tux let his son stay there, curled to his side. Calicary followed soon after, getting more agitated after he licked his lips one last time and trying to climb over his dad.
Tugger grabbed the kitten and sat him together with the others, doing the same with Hekate who cuddled with the two silent little toms. As expected, Pysia was the last one, having to be pried away once more.
"And we're done…" Mistoffelees said with a relieved sigh.
"Anyone else needs seconds? Not you." Tugger quickly added, pointing at Pysia, who cried out and rolled onto her back, finally satisfied. "Everyone happy?"
All they got as answers were soft little mewls and chirps, most of the kittens feeling sleepy and sluggish after their meal.
Tugger sat next to Mistoffelees, the tip of his tail close to the blankets, giving both Asteria and Calicary a "toy" to play with. He smiled down at his mate, who had closed his eyes, as if sleeping together with the little kitten cuddling against his side.
"Well, that wasn't so hard." Tugger said, patting Anália's head fur.
"Get ready to do the same thing in four hours…" Mistoffelees huffed, running a paw over his sore chest.
"Well, you said it yourself, we did sign up for this." Tugger chuckled. "Or better, your magic signed us up for it."
Mistoffelees glared at Tugger, who just smiled, leaning down and kissing the tux, who couldn't help but start purring.
