A/N: I have loved Callie and Arizona together since they introduced Arizona. I did not like how they ended at all. This story is Callie and Arizona end game. I personally like a little bit of drama in stories, since life is not rainbows and butterflies 😊. This is my first FanFic ever. The Callie and Arizona Fan Fiction writers on here are SO talented. You all have inspired me to try a story. I am open to all constructive criticism!
Also, I love golf, but I know the sport is a bit dry. So, I am going to keep the details to a minimum here. "The Race" is basically The Master's. I just don't want to use that name.
Arizona POV
Arizona woke up in a cold sweat. Today was the day she had been preparing for her whole life. She still remembers the day that she picked up a golf club for the first time. Growing up as an Army brat she craved any sort of consistency she could get her hands on. When her father, The Colonel, was away for extended periods of time her mother tried her best to keep her and her brother, Tim's, mind off of when he would be back. Due to the fact they moved all the time, Arizona and Tim did not really try to make friends. They had each other and that was enough. After Arizona found her first set of golf club's at a flea market, her and Tim taught themselves to play. Most of the time it was just hitting balls off into the water. When they finally returned stateside permanently, they lived a mile from a beautiful course. Tim and Arizona both got jobs there and were able to golf for free before and after work. She fell in love with the game and Tim fell in love with the logistics of the game. He has been her caddy since day one.
Arizona laid in bed way longer than she should have. This was the day. The day she had been working for. The second she swung those cheap Pink clubs she was hooked. She golfed every chance she got. Then she joined a school team, then came the college scholarship, then the Women's league. Championship after championship. Finally, her agent and best friend Teddy had somehow gotten her a chance to play with the guys. Arizona Robbins was going to be the first woman to ever golf at The Race. It was the ultimate boy's club and she was so nervous she could puke. However, she knew this was a huge deal. She was slightly confused by the change in location. The Race had been played at the same course in Georgia for as long as she could remember. This year, they were in Miami playing at The Calliope. This course was tough but she was ready.
"Time to do this. Arizona Robbins will make history." Arizona said to herself. She was always nervous before competitions, but nothing like this. For the next 2 weeks Arizona was going to be in the same suite. She couldn't lie, it was nice. There was a ton of buzz around her being the first woman playing not only in the PGA, but The Race. This suite at the Torre's Estate – The Calliope was courtesy of Carlos Torres, owner and CEO of The Torres Company. He had two daughters and 3 granddaughters, so he was loving the fact a woman was coming in to shake stuff up. When he called Teddy and insisted Arizona take the Presidential Suite, Teddy about lost it. She didn't really warn Arizona but when they walked in, Arizona's jaw hit the floor. This was going to make the next 2 weeks of dirty looks and whispers a bit more bearable.
Teddy had told her she wanted to meet for brunch before press. They planned to meet at 10:30. Arizona rolled over and looked at the clock, it was 9:30. Time to wake up and get this day started. Today would be all press and a few practice rounds. "Lets get this show on the road." She mumbled as she rolled out of bed.
Callie's POV
"Sofia let's go! We have to meet Abuelo and Tia Aria for breakfast in 15 minutes. If you are not ready, I am leaving without you".
Callie was exhausted. The Race was this weekend, and this meant she was running around like a chicken with her head cut off. She loved the fact her father stepped in and agreed to take over the competition. There was a female golfer competing for the first time ever and when the original hosts found out, they refused to let her golf. Since Carlos Torres is on the board of the PGA and is all about women's empowerment he stepped up and volunteered their property. So, The Race was being held at The Calliope. Their most beautiful and difficult course. It was no coincidence that her father had made her the point person for the next two weeks. She loved her sister Aria, but she was not to be trusted with something this big.
Right now, Callie just needed her beautiful, sassy, perpetually late 6-year-old to get it together so they could meet her father and sister at their planning brunch.
"Sofia Aria Torres I am walking out the door in 5….4…..3…..2….."
"Mami! I am coming. I had to pick what stuffed animal I wanted to bring. There were too many to choose from."
That was the understatement of the year. Being a single mother was not what Callie had planned, but she knew how she wanted to raise her daughter. However, her father and sister spoiled her rotten. Sofia had to have at least 50 stuffed animals. She would probably get another 5 before the weekend was over.
"Okay mija, we have to go. You know how Abuelo gets when he has to wait to eat. We do not want a cranky Abuelo."
"Mami, Abuelo won't be cranky with me. He loves me." She proudly states as she batts her eyes. Callie knew it was going to be a LOOONG 2 weeks.
Aria was mainly here so she could step in and help with Sofia. Aria's twin girls Allegra and Aurora are 1 year older than Sofia. Them being here to occupy Sofia is going to make this weekend possible. The plan was that Callie dealt with the business and Aria handled the kids. Hopefully this would be successful. The visibility this competition as bringing to their property was huge.
As they were in the car he phone started to ring. "This is Callie Torres." She said, all business.
"Hi Callie Torres, this is Mark Sloan." She laughed. Mark had been her best friend since she could remember. He was there whenever he needed her. He also happened to be the manager of The Calliope.
"Hi Mark. How are we doing? Everything starts today. Are the grounds good, staff prepared, do we have enough food?"
"Torres! Calm down. I've got this. You know I know what this means to you and your family. Everything is going to go off without a hitch!" he said in his cocky signature Sloan tone.
"What would I do without you Mark? I owe you a night out when this is over."
"We are not waiting until this is over for a night out. Torres, the ladies that are here are smokin. Time to show them…."
"Mark! You are on speaker, in the car. With Sofia….".
"Sofia! Are you coming to see Uncle Mark? I got you a new stuffed animal since it is going to be a crazy week!".
Callie just rolled her eyes. Mark loved Sofia. They didn't see him as much as she wished they could, but he was such a good male presence in her life.
"Uncle Mark! We are on our way for brunch. I can't wait to see you!" Sofia shrieked. Surely the promise of a new toy was part of the excitement.
"Alright Torres, Sofia. See you when you get here!". He promptly hung up.
Callie pulled her Land Rover up to the valet and unloaded Sofia. They walked into The Calliope hand in hand. It did not take long to find Aria since Allegra and Aurora were waving and yelling for Sofia.
They walked up to the table and exchanged hugs and hellos.
"Hola mis dulces chicas. ¡Estoy muy contento de que vamos a pasar estas próximas semanas juntos!" (Hello my sweet girls. I am so glad we are going to be spending these next few weeks together!) Carlos said with nothing but love.
Callie was so grateful to have her father. He had been her rock for the longest time. When Callie told her parents that she was bisexual they had not taken it well. She was kicked out, trust fund drained, basically cut off from the family. If it wasn't for Aria, she would have been in a really bad place. After 4 months of radio silence, her father reached out. He said he was wrong, and it did not matter who she loved as long as she was happy. Shortly after that she was hired into the family business and has worked her way up to be her father's right hand woman.
"Estamos muy felices de estar aquà con todos ustedes, papá. ¡Serán unas semanas fantásticas!" (We are so happy to be here with all of you, Daddy. It is going to be a great few weeks!). She said smiling warmly at her family.
The family had ordered food and Callie had consumed enough coffee to sustain a small village. The conversation was great, and they had finalized a clear plan and had finalized the itinerary for the next few weeks. There was no more planning that could be done. It was time to just hit the ground running and hope for the best. Callie saw Mark walking towards the table. In his hand were 3 stuffed unicorns. Mark was going to make a great dad one day. Honestly, she should set him and Aria up. Aria's ex husband was a jerk and she deserved better.
"Helloooo Torres familyyyyy!" Mark said as he pulled up a chair.
"Mark, good to see you. Excuse me really quick. I have to use the bathroom. Sofia, listen to Uncle Mark, Tia Aria, and Abuelo. I will be right back."
Callie all but sprinted out of the restaurant towards the bathroom. Her phone dinged as she rounded the corner towards the bathroom. She looked down to see she received another email. Before she knew what happened she slammed into someone.
"Umph. I am SO sorry! I was looking at my phone. So so sorry." She said to the person she bumped into. She stretched her hand down to help the person off the floor. When she looked down, she locked eyes with the most beautiful ocean blue eyes she had ever seen….
