"People have two sides, a good side and a bad side, a past, a future. We must embrace both in someone we love. There's always two sides to the coin if you have the patience to see. I have a whole other side that has yet to be seen on screen."
It was their first free Friday night after weeks of working on projects and pulling late-nights before deadlines. So Virgil's best friend and roommate Remus decided to go out and party. Virgil hated the idea of being crowded by drunk people, dancing ridiculously to bass music. People Virgil barely knew.
Remus decided not to tell him anything regarding the party. He simply told Virgil to get dressed and be ready at 9 pm. He wore his usual black and purple Hoodie with a black shirt underneath. He combined it with black scratched jeans and his shoes with purple laces.
Remus wore a weird combination of black and green in verious patterns.A over sized green and black colored flanel shirt along with ripped dark green skinny jeans and big black army boots with neongreen stitches and prints on it. Underneath the open shirt, he wore a net tanktop along with a neongreen shirt and a lot of chain necklesses.
His black hair was brushed back, showing off the white strand of hair right above his forehead. When the time had come they met downstairs. Remus giving Virgil a last look over, before pushing him out the frontdoor and into their car.
Thirty mintues later he parked at/on the street, heading for their destination, passing by already dipsy college students, nearly stumbling in the same direction. Not having a clue where they were going made Virgil nervous as hell, and the fact that Remus 'was' dragging him there, wasn't helping in the slightest.
"Come on, stop struggling. We're almost there." Remus grizzled, heading for a big house covered in lights. The music was so loud that they could hear it from a far.
"Wait! What are we doing here?!" Virgil spoke up, digging his heels into the ground, as he realized the party was at the painfully familiar dorm of an 'specific person' Virgil rather not wanted to meet.
Remus looked over his shoulder, rising one dark eyebrow in a silent question. "We can't go there!" Protested Virgil, while struggling even more against Remus's grip. But Remus didn't care for the moment and simply continued to pull him along, looking over his shoulder with a grin, rolling his eyes.
"Oh gloomy, why are you allways so pessimistic? Try to relax for once and enjoy yourself, since it is your first party." "B-But Remus-", "Besides, your finally getting out of your hideout. You deserve a break after all the studying. We both do, so come o-".
"Remus!" Virgil yelled , pulling forcefully on his arm, so that Remus had to stop and turn around. Giving him a proper look. Something was up.
"What if he is there?" Virgil paused for a moment. "I mean this is where he goes to fucking school, of course he will be there. Why the hell did you pick this one of all partys. You know what happend when I broke up with him but you still dragged me here!"
Virgil glanced at the house behind Remus. All those people were gathering in the frontyard and Virgil couldn't help but think about meeting his ex there, after they had broken up few months ago.
Their relationship ending in a big fight, in which Virgil got beaten up by him, letting all of his furry and sadness out on him. He had beaten Virgil unconscious, leaving him almost for dead on the sidewalk. And that was only the brink of the iceberg.
Virgil had told Remus about the fight and the break up after his recovery, though he didn't went much into detail about it. It was still enough for Remus to figure out the rest, or so Virgil thought and by the look Remus had given him that day, he was right.
Now, Remus thought about it for a second, tipping his head to one side looking back and forth between Virgil and the building. Eyebrows furrowed down in concentration.
"Ok, for the record. I didn`t know whos place it was, believe me! I only heard of a big college party nearby, from a colleague at the Café I'm working at, no idea where they heard it from. Anyways, I thought this could be a great idea to have some fun and let out some steam, you know. I'm fine with not going if you dont want to go." Remus paused for a second, choosing his next words persistendly.
"But if you ask me, you can't just hide from what happend 'forever ago', for the rest of your life. What you should do, is to face the devil up front, look him straight in the eye and say: 'Go fuck yourself' and move on with your life otherwise it will eat you up from the inside."
Virgil shouldn't be suprised by Remus´s honesty but still. Remus was always joking around, and chaotic, so it was rare to see him so serious about something and Virgil hated him for that even more, because he was right for once. He can't run away forever. They had to met at some point in time, unfortunately the time came sooner than he thought.
Virgil gave a deep sigh as he nooded slowly in defeat. Remus smiled proudly and took his right hand again, while Virgil pulled his hood over his head and deeper in his face with the other.
"Dont worry, Virg. I'll be right by your side at all times to protect you, if he's deciding to show face. Now, come its gonna be fun!" Remus cheered as they got closer to the front yard. The noises grew louder now.
People were chatting all the way up to the front door, gathered in little groups with drinks in hand. Virgil couldn't help but stare at the unknown faces around them from underneath his hood, as they made up their way to the front door. Even the lights got brighter, forcing Virgil to blink a few times.
As soon as they opend the front door, they got blown away by loud bass music coming from giant speakers in both corners of the fronthall. Every last inch was filled by drunk, awkwardly dancing and chating collage students of diffrent shapes, sizes and gender, having the fun of their lives. This college dorm was build like a maze.
The fronthall was huge. On the right there were the stairs to the second and third floor, to the left was the way to the kitchen. The livingroom and backyard was straight down the hallway. Remus left the fronthall behind, passed the kitchen and strairs and went straight for the livingroom. Remus navigated him through the crowd like he was the one who had been here before, not Virgil.
The walls of the livingroom were mainly made out of glas, only the front and right wall were not. they had opend the glasdoors to the backyard, so the livingroom seemed bigger. Virgil sank down on one of the window benches on the left side of the room, pulling one knee up to his chest, slinging one arm around it, while Remus stood, leaning against the glas, behind them.
With an welcoming gesture Remus grinned at his partner. "There you go. An open space, big enough for the claustrophobic angsty teen."
Virgil couldn't help but to give him a pissed grown as response, along with a deadly glare of furry in his eyes. If only looks could kill. Remus would had died a dozen painful deaths just for Virgil's enjoyment. Not even ten minutes has past as Remus stemmed himself off the glass wall.
"Alright. You stay here, I'll go get some drinks for us."
"Don't take to long, got that", Virgil yelled after him as he already had taken off, whereupon Remus turned and saloted as he suddenly tripped backwards over someone, taking them down with him.
'Jesus christ', Virgil thought while shaking his head. He let out a deep sigh before leaning his head back against the glas, looking up to the ceiling. Why the hell did he let Remus talk him into this?!
He could have easly just stayed home, in the safty of his room, like every other day. Listening to his favourit bands. Instead he sits here in the living room at the party of his ex-boyfriend, cramped up between other drunk strangers. Of course his anxiety was working double time and on high gear.
Lucky for him, from this part of the room he could over see everything and everyone. A perfect spot to be on a look out for someone specific. He tried focusing on the people around him and not the gohsts of the past, living in his head - screaming for attention.
He actually was suprised how there were more people of his own College here, than he previously thought. People, he barely had spoken to or had studied with for exams. Even some of his classmates were there. Like Patton, who was buisy dancing around his friend Logan, like Rumpelstiltskin around the fire.
Virgil couldn't help himself but to giggle quietly at the sight and waved back as Patton saw him and waved his hand in greetings. Logan on the other hand didn't seem to enjoy himself very much at the party. He pinched the bridge of his nose, while watching over Patton with serious eyes.
'They were like two sides of the same coin', Virgil thought and smiled to himself. Patton was always about sunshine and rainbows. In fact Patton was the kindest, happiest and friendliest person Virgil knew. Logan was polite, but all about efficiency, books and practicality. He never seemed to spend time on daydreaming or fantasies.
He also was very smart and quiet. They were so diffrent, that Virgil sometimes wondered how they even got along so easily. Weirdly enough, they always had been toghether since Virgil could remember. Like on the very first day at college. Making him kinda wonder what type of relationship they were in. All he could tell was that they know eachother for a longer time.
Come to think of it his friendship with Remus was not much diffrent. Virgil was an introvert straight from the books. He liked being alone and mostly had been all to himself. He hated crowded places and liked reading and listening to music. Virgil never talked much but knew what to say if needed.
Remus was all about action and chaos. He enjoyed adventueres like hiking, and other sports that include running. He loved going to convetions and concerts and talking to people always saying what he was thinking right in that moment. They had been friends for quite some time now, more then ten years, if he remembered correctly.
