"Have you ever thought of yourself as a hero? Have you ever wanted to have superpowers and live as a superhero? I don't need to imagine. I am one."

"It's Salamander!" The famous Salamander jumped through the air as he made his way through the city of Magnolia. Natsu Dragneel, also known as Salamander, is the famous hero of this city.

"Life seems to be going good for me. I'm considered a hero, I beat down on bad guys, and I managed to get the kind of girl I always wanted. Life is good. Now, if only I can get to school on time." Natsu Dragneel might be a great hero, but he still has trouble being where he's suppose to be. Natsu landed down and got himself dressed into his regular clothes. He hurried over to his school's doors, but they were locked.

"I still can't make it to school on time, but I can save the whole city from destruction?" Natsu complained. He was wondering what he was going to do until he heard the whistle of one of his long time friend: Erza. She opened a window for him to sneak in. "Thank you, Erza!" Natsu climbed in through the window thanks to Erza's help.

"What goes on with you?" Erza said. "Where are you most of the time?"

"I'm not entitled to secrets?" Natsu laughed as the two of them made it to class. Natsu tries his best to live a normal life. Erza might not know his secret, but a few people do. There's his big brother Zeref, his girlfriend Lucy, but there's one that doesn't like it. Gray Fullbuster was his closest friend, but all he feels for Natsu is resentment.

...

Later

After class, Natsu was able to make it through a normal day. He was even happier when he saw his girlfriend by her lockers. He snuck up on her as he lifted her off the ground and spun her around.

"Put me down." Lucy said with a laugh. When she was, she gave him a quick kiss. "Barely avoided getting attention this time?"

"Thanks to Erza." Natsu said.

"What happened this time? Purse snatching?" Lucy asked.

"No. It was a mere wallet thief." Natsu said as they both had a laugh. Natsu was feeling lucky, but he didn't feel so lucky when he saw Gray walk by as he was on his way out. "Gray!" Natsu went after him as he made his way through the doors. "Gray, wait!" Gray stopped, but he didn't even look at him. "Gray, I know what you're thinking, but you need to let me explain."

"Stop talking to me." Gray said. He just walked off and didn't even look at Natsu. Natsu didn't know what he was going to do.

"Everything okay?" Lucy asked as she caught up with Natsu.

"It's Gray." Natsu said. "He knows I'm Salamander, and he believes that Salamander killed his father. He won't even look at me."

"He's your best friend. I'm sure he'll come around when he's ready to listen." Lucy said.

"I sure hope you're right." Natsu said. He doesn't want to lose a friend over this, but Gray just won't listen to him.

Scarlet Despair

Scarlet Despair is one of Salamander's most notorious villains. She's created some of the villains he's fought. She desires control over the city and has ways of ensuring Salamander's downfall.

"How is it going, Wall and Invel?" Scarlet Despair asked her top two scientists. "How is our newest creation coming?"

"Really well." Wall said as he cackled. "This is probably going to be our best villain. He's sure to keep things interesting."

"Why are we giving him my ice abilities?" Invel, also known as the villain the Winter General, asked.

"I let him choose his own power. He wanted the one that is the opposite of fire." Scarlet Despair said. "I've made a few modifications as well to make him stronger and more durable. His hatred for Salamander will give him an edge." As they monitored the status of a new villain, they watched as he emerged from a small body chamber. This new villain only has one goal: destroy Salamander.

Natsu

Natsu was just walking around the city. Night may have fallen, but it was just a regular day for him. He kept walking around the streets, kept trying to get in touch with Gray.

"Come on, Gray. When are you going to give me the chance to explain?" Natsu said in his phone. "You're my best friend. Don't you think I owe you an explanation? It's not as bad as you think. Call me soon." Natsu ended the call and just kept going. He minded his own business, but didn't know he was being hunted. That was until something came and grabbed him as he was lifted off the ground. He was turned around and kept getting met with a fist across his face. He kept getting hit a few times until he was tossed to the side. Natsu reached out and was able to stick to a building thanks to his powers. He looked around and saw a path of ice was made in the air. "Ice? Winter General?" It was the only ice villain he knew, but it made no sense for it to be him. He didn't get to question it as his attacker came back around and smashed him against the wall. His attacker tossed him across the street and he smashed into another wall.

"Nowhere to hide now." Natsu looked to see his attacker. He wore navy blue jacket with grey pants and boots. He had black hair in spikes. You would think the most distinct feature would be that half of his body was covered in black markings, but it was actually his face. Natsu knew who it was.

"Gray?" Natsu said. He couldn't believe Gray was attacking him with powers.

"You knew this was coming, Natsu." Gray said. He went on the attack as he tried to strike him, but Natsu jumped up and stuck to the wall. When Gray made impact, he formed ice spikes. He looked up at Natsu.

"Listen to me! I didn't kill your father!" Natsu said, but Gray still wouldn't listen. He swung his other arm up, but Natsu jumped out of the way as more ice spikes formed. Natsu moved next to him and kept trying to talk to him. "He shielded me from an attack! He died protecting me!"

"No more lies!" Gray shouted as he tried attacking him again, but Natsu moved out of the way. Natsu kept moving from one building to the next as Gray chased after him.

"How did you even get those powers?!" Natsu said.

"All you need to know is that they're the powers that will end you!" Gray said as he launched shards of ice like a shotgun. Natsu moved around as fast as he could until he went over a roof. Gray followed after him, but he was met with a fiery punch. He was knocked back, but he formed a new path of ice that helped him get back to the top.

"Gray, just stop! I don't want to fight!" Natsu said.

"Can't keep up?!" Gray said as he formed a blade of ice around his hand. Gray swung it around, but Natsu stayed agile and stayed away from it.

"Gray, please! Stop!" Natsu begged, but Gray still wouldn't listen.

"Gray is gone. Call me Ice Demon." Gray said as he took in his new identity. He spun around and gave him a strong kick that knocked him off the building. Gray hurried over and saw Natsu was still sticking to buildings. Natsu tried making a run for it, but Gray followed after him as he made a new path of ice and went after him. Natsu tried using what was in the alleyway to help him, but Gray made his way through. "You can't shake me that easily, Natsu!"

"Oh yeah?!" Natsu said as he made his way around clotheslines. Gray just forced his way through. When he made it to the end, Natsu surprised him by giving him a powerful punch to the face. He knocked Gray right off the ice with him bashing against whatever was in the alleyway until he hit the bottom. Natsu hoped that got him to calm down, but he saw the black marks vanish and wasn't moving.

"Gray?!" Natsu called as he jumped down and took a quick look. It wasn't looking good.

The Hospital

Natsu rushed Gray to the hospital. While Gray was in urgent care, all Natsu could do was wait for the results.

"Natsu!" Natsu looked down the hall to see Zeref arriving. "I came as soon as I got your message. Is Gray okay?"

"I'm not sure. They haven't said anything." Natsu said.

"So, Gray attacked you with powers? How?" Zeref said.

"I don't know." Natsu said. He wasn't liking this at all. When they saw the doctor come out, they hurried over.

"You're friend is going to be okay." The doctor said. That was a relief. "However, he might suffer from some memory loss."

"Memory loss?" Natsu said.

"He might remember some things, but not everything." The doctor said. That could be good or bad for Natsu. "If you want to see him, you can. You will have to keep it short."

"Go. His mom isn't here yet. I'll wait for her." Zeref said. Gray was his best friend, but Natsu needed to keep his guard up. He walked in to see Gray in bed with bandages on his head.

"Hey, man." Gray said as he seemed happy to see him.

"Hey." Natsu said. "You doing okay?"

"I somehow hit my head. Of course I'm not doing okay, idiot." Gray said. That sounded like the Gray he knew. "Hey... Did my dad really die?"

"Yeah... I'm afraid that he did." Natsu said. Gray did seem upset about that, but he's not acting the way he thought. It would seem that blow to the head has erased some of Gray's memories like he was told.

"That really bites, but at least I still got my best pal." Gray said. Natsu was glad to hear that. It looks like Natsu won't have to worry about Ice Demon for a while. However, one way or the other, the truth always has a way of coming out.
