"No, no… Please… Please… Leave me alone…Sarge…. No… Not Tully! NOOO!" Hitch screamed and he jerked up from his cot, sweat starting to soak his undershirt. He shivered not from cold for it was at least 90 degrees out but from pure terror as the dream still coursed through his veins. He vaguely became aware of a warm yet cool sensation that enclosed his bicep and noises were coming from beside him.

He turned his head his hearing whizzing in and out and he only caught the last part of Tully's concerned question "…Okay?" As soon as Hitch's baby blue eyes caught sight of Tully, he threw his arms around the other man and digging his face into his shoulder tears came and Tully said not another word. He sat there sitting on the edge of Hitch's bed slowly rocking him back and forth letting him cry. His hand occasionally rubbed his back and he muttered comforting words to his ailing best friend.

Hitch stopped eventually not having anything left to cry out and starting to feel slightly embarrassed he pulled himself albeit a bit reluctantly out of Tully's warm embrace and sat there rubbing his eyes and wiping his face with his hands trying to gain some control over at least something right then. He really needed to feel in control even if his emotions and what he felt inside were akin to a tsunami, tornado, and volcano all coming together and wreaking havoc on yours truly.

Tully waited patiently not wanting to be the first to break the silence as he felt that Hitch might need to feel in control. He wasn't Hitch's best friend for nothing after all. He could read him like an open book at a quarter of a mile away…In a sandstorm… Blindfolded. Okay, okay maybe not to that extreme but he knew he was closer to Hitch than Sarge and Moffit as Tully realized he also was the only one who had known Hitch the longest. Breaking Tully out of his almost turning smug at how much better he knew Hitch, Hitch blurted out in a tiny voice that surprised Tully.

"Sorry…I didn't mean to wake yah. Or yah know to drown your shirt in blubbering." Tully snorted and a smile twitched his lips as he responded with.

"I don't mind Hitch. Besides better drowning than burning alive in this dang desert. Honestly, you kind of saved me. I thought I was going to have to turn myself as one side of me was cooked to perfection when yah up and hollered and then cooled my distress with your so called 'blubbering'." Hitch snorted back at him at the first part and grinned at him at the last part, a sign of eternal gratitude on his face.

"You want to tell me what you was hollering about earlier? I know that mission earlier was maybe one of the worst ones. Heck Moffit didn't say a word the whole way back and I mean that's rarer than a snowstorm in July here. I think it kind of hit a little too close to home for us. Not to mention the that trek back to the jeeps was just as brutal." Hitch's bright eyes immediately dulled, and he broke his gaze to stare at the blanket in silence. He looked back up at him after a minute and managing a thin smile said.

"I had a nightmare is all." Tully nodded in sympathy and in understanding. God knew how many nightmares he had gotten since his joining the war and he could only guess that it was worse for Sarge and Moffit them being higher ranking and seeing more stuff than they had. Hitch's face suddenly scrunched up and he looked at Tully in half curiosity and suspicion. "Tully you're my best friend and I love you like a brother but what the heck are you doing in my tent?"

Tully arched an eyebrow and putting his hand on Hitch's shoulder answered with "First, love yah too best friend…" Hitch blushed a bit embarrassed at saying something so mushy and Tully just winked at him thinking it was hilarious how easily Hitch showed his soft side at 3 in the morning. "And the reason was I needed to borrow your bar soap. I was going to go take a shower and try to cool down a bit." Hitch's mouth dropped and Tully chuckled as he got up and grabbed Hitch's fancy Italian bar of soap that even smelled better than his own.

"You… Thief! I thought it seemed to be going faster than usual. How could yah Tully?" Hitch put his hand on his heart like he was mortally wounded making Tully snort and silently marvel at how open and ridiculous Hitch was being. The dream must have really scared him Tully surmised. Tully rolled his eyes fondly at Hitch and said.

"Yah left your soap in the shower stall and I had forgotten mine, so I figured you wouldn't mind it much. Besides your fancy soap makes my hair all soft and shiny. My bar of soap doesn't." Hitch grinned at him for a split second before opening his mouth about to protest when a sly smile sneaked onto Tully's face and he coyly continued saying "You wouldn't deprive your best friend from having hair like you would yah? Maybe I can even get a floof in my hair like yours." Tully waggled his eyebrows at the last part and Hitch dissolved into laughter while Tully snorted with laughter and grinned incredibly happy that Hitch seemed way better than before.

"Hey Tully?"

"Yeah Hitch?"

"Thanks. You're always there for me."

"No prob Hitch that's what I'm here for. That and stealing your soap."

"…pwh!Haha!" And so, Tully left Hitch alone with his stuttering laughing successfully distracted from his nightmare. Tully took a shower and the next morning when Sarge took a step back and said he could swear that Tully's hair looked like Hitch's. Their broad smiles at each other only confused their sergeant but made Hitch snort and Tully chuckle.

The End.
