"Ah, what a nice day for a date." Tenten commented.
"But you're alone..."
"AHH! Kakashi-sensei, please don't sneak up on people." Tenten nearly fell off her perch atop the tree branch.
"Are you having a date up here?" He tilted his head inquisitively.
"No no, not me. I'm here to spy on Lee. He actually got Sakura to go on one. That's why I'm like this." She gestures to her hair and clothes.
"Ah, yes, I was wondering why you stuck twigs in your hair." True enough, Tenten had worn a green long sleeve and pants instead of her usual qipao. And she added twigs and leaves to her hair, all in the name of good camouflaging. Apparently not good enough because she was already discovered before her mission even began.
"What about you, sensei? What are you doing here?"
"I was down there then saw you so now I'm up here."
"Oooh...are you staying?"
"Hm"
"Should we cover your hair? They might see you..."
"Hm"
"Do you have a bandana?"
"No"
"Ooook, hm, turn around, I'll just tie your hair back so it's not sticking out everywhere." Tenten undid one of her buns and used the hair tie for Kakashi. She ran her fingers through his hair to comb it back.
"Your hair is really soft. I wonder if it's the shampoo you use. All done. Looking good." She smiled at him after he turned back around and she got a good look at his new hairdo. A little man bun in place of his usual spikes. Quickly she redid her hair as well, just a long braid now that she only has one hair tie.
"Let's see, they're supposed to meet here at the park then go have dinner. Oh look, there's Lee. He got her flowers! I'm glad he didn't wear the green jumpsuit. She wouldn't take him seriously in that outfit."
About 50 feet away, Lee sat on the bench waiting for Sakura. He held a bouquet of red and white carnations and dressed in a white shirt and black pants. Much more tame than the green jumpsuit and orange leg warmers.
"He looks nervous. " Kakashi commented.
"I think any guy would be when they're on a date with the girl of their dreams. Weren't you like that once?"
"...no?"
"What do you mean? You've never been nervous on a date?"
"Never been on one."
"Wahhhh?" Tenten looked at him confusingly. She couldn't process what he just said. She kept opening and closing her mouth like a fish out of water. He looked at her calmly and popped a piece of candy into her gaping mouth.
"Look, Sakura is coming." He pulled her attention back to their mission. Tenten recovered enough to chew on her candy and look back at the situation. Sakura wore a light green dress for the occasion, giving off a fresh feeling like the budding of spring. Lee held out the bouquet to her and she smiled in response. Their voices were too far away to hear.
"Sensei, do you read lips? What are they saying?"
"No idea."
"...wish I had one of Shino's bug..."
"Hm...let's try this." Kakashi then summoned one of his ninken. After removing the vest and forehead protector, he ordered the dog to listen in and report back.
"That's so cool." Tenten beamed.
Lee and Sakura thought it was a stray so they play with him a bit while chatting with each other. After a good 15mins, the ninken couldn't take it anymore so he ran off before doubling back into the tree.
"Kids are so boring nowadays. They talked about the weather the whole time. Send me back. I'm too old for this." The ninken grumbled grumpily before disappearing in a cloud of smoke. Tenten giggled as she heard the report. Kakashi, stoic as ever, didn't utter a single word.
"Come on, let's go to the restaurant."
"Restaurant?"
"Yeah, I found out where they're having dinner and booked a table in the room next to theirs. It's some fancy place where you get your own private room." She jumped down from the tree and started picking the the leaves and twigs out. He landed right next to her and pulled out the pieces that she missed.
"Thanks! Let's go. We gotta get there before them so they don't see us." She grabbed his hand and pulled him into a run, letting go when she felt that he was at the same pace as her.
"I wonder what they're talking about...do they have anything in common at all? Or is Lee just going to dump compliments after compliments on her. How do you think Sakura will react?"
"She'll be restraint, possibly overwhelmed, but polite."
"Yeah, that sounds about right."
The restaurant they were in was quaint and intimate. There was a small garden in the middle with rooms all around, looking like a traditional home layout. After settling down and placing their order, Tenten looked left and right.
"Which room will they be in? On the left or right of us? Let's listen on the left first." Tenten and Kakashi made their way to the left wall and pressed their ear upon it.
"ah...be gentle...mmmm"
"so soft...tender.."
"That's not them." Tenten flushed pink with what she just heard. She turned herself away and walked towards the opposite wall, but...
"Sensei!" She hissed. Kakashi was still listening to what could only be described as Icha Icha Paradise in real time. He was intently listening and nodding his head as if agree to everything that was happening on the other side. Tenten strode back to his side and grabbed his sleeve trying to pull him away. It was as if she was trying to pull a mountain, he did not move an inch. She grabbed his wrist instead and tugged. No use! Thinking she needed more grip, she grabbed his ankle. Nothing moved!
"Sensei! You can't listen to that! It's not decent!" She jumped onto his back and tried once more. He didn't even flinch. She sat down, breathing accelerated like she had just finished a training. Thinking for a moment, a thought occurred to her. With a mischievous glint in her eye, she raised her hand and banged it loudly against the wall. All activities in the two rooms stopped immediately. She could feel the murderous aura coming off him as he turned towards her.
"What have you done?"
"Huh? Did I do something?" She sheepishly looked at him, making her eyes as big and innocent as she could.
"Don't be upset, Sensei. I'll make it up to you later." She smiled, not knowing that her words held some ambiguity. She wander off to the other wall and listened in.
"Yumi, don't leave me. I don't care that you're engaged. We can elope."
"I can't...my family..."
"Then let me hold you one last time..."
"What the hell...that's not them." Tenten turned and found Kakashi pasted to this wall just as intently as the last wall. He started nodding his head again! She tried to pull him away, but unfortunately he learned from his mistake and took hold of her wrists in his hands.
"Sensei, let go. Don't listen anymore!" She struggled and twisted every which way to free her hands, but it was like he had a death grip on her. Huffing and puffing, she stopped struggling.
Fine, I can't use my hands, how about my legs hehehe She lifted leg in preparation of kicking the wall. He anticipated that so he blocked her leg.
knock knock knock
The two quickly separated and resume a dignified sitting position at the table while the door opened and the waitress came in with their food.
"Thank you for waiting. Please enjoy your meal."
Tenten gave a polite smile and nodded, feeling a bit shy at almost being caught eavesdropping. She shot Kakashi a glare and he just stared at her blankly then smiled.
What kind of reaction is that?! Tenten withdrew her glaze and started picking the food to eat. After a bite, she looked up to check out her partner-in-crime.
"You're done already?!" Looking from his face to the food then back, then to the food then to him again, his plate was picked clean. "What kind of ninja art is that? Aren't you afraid of having indigestion? I didn't even see you move...is that why you haven't been on a date? It would be weird to just inhale your food before your date finishes. I guess the mask would also be hard to explain too. So I guess it ki-mmhmh"
"Less talking, more eating." He stated while shove a piece of meat into her mouth. She opened her mouth to retort, but he took that opportunity to place another morsel of food into her mouth. Her eyes widen at his action and was about to speak, but another piece of food was fed to her. Now her cheeks puffed from all the food. She could only glare at him again while chewing. He chuckled at her appearance reminding him of an angry chipmunk. He held up another piece of meat for her, but she turned her face away.
"I can feed myself!"
"What a bust...do you think they'll go on another date?" Tenten asked as they strolled down the street.
"I don't know."
"I'll let you know if they do have another one and definitely make sure I get the right place next time! Which way are you going? My house is that way." They reached a crossroad and she stopped to point in the direction of her apartment.
"I'll walk you home, good for digestion." She smiled remembering her words earlier. They continued on in comfortable silence until they reached her apartment.
"Thanks for walking me back. I didn't even ask if you wanted to come along today."
"I enjoyed it."
"That's good, I'm glad. Have a good night!"
"Let's go on a date."
"Huh?"
"Date"
"Oooooo...ok." She smiled, held her hand up and curled her finger to gesture him to come closer. Once closed enough, she reached out and pulled the hair tie out then ruffled his hair into its initial shape.
"Wear your hair like that on our date. I like it."
"Hm"
A/N: how cute would Kakashi be with a man bun?
