This is basically my first Fanfiction, so I apologize for any grammatical or punctuation errors.
Also, this takes place in a nonexisting world and timeline, that I created to fix the problems I have with Boruto the character and show, so this probably really will not make sense to you, sorry.
Boruto Uzumaki brushed away the drops of sweat that coated his brow.
The sun beat down on him, reminding him that summer had come to the village hidden in the leaves, the kid with the sword continuously charging at him didn't help.
He had decided to do simple work today, nothing too hard or complicated, his father was out of town on a trip, and his mother was busy picking up the slack, not to mention still successfully running their house and family.
Which meant in the height of summer, he was free to do anything he wanted, and he didn't want to do anything hard that day.
Until Kawaki started to mouth off during breakfast.
He couldn't just stand around while his adopted brother bragged and claimed for a good half hour that he could take Bolt with one arm tied behind his back.
And yes Bolt should not have launched across the table to prove to Kawaki just who was the better fighter, especially since it ended with the two of them being tossed out of the house in the middle of a hot day.
"Tired?" Kawaki called from the other side of the yard, he smirked like he had already won like Bolt wasn't just resting in preparation for his greatest move.
Bolt slid into his starting position before he charged across the lawn, his sword came down hard onto Kawaki's own sword.
Bolt then dropped in hopes of knocking Kawaki's feet from underneath him, but Kawaki jumped and used his momentum to jump back a few feet, only to launch his own attack at Bolt, which consisted of Yeeting himself at said boy.
They ended up sprawled on the lawn, swords were forgotten as they rolled back and forth both trying to get the upper hand on the other.
"I'm home!" Naruto called from the front gate.
In moments the yard was filled with kids and teens, led by Hinata who all rushed to greet the Seventh Hokage.
Kawaki shoved Bolt off of him before he climbed to his feet all the while brushing the dirt and grass off of his clothes.
Bolt stood up and rushed after his family but paused halfway when he relished Kawaki wasn't following.
"You coming?" he asked, turning to his adopted brother.
Kawaki cleaned off the blade of his sword before he glared at Boruto.
"No, why would I?"
"Dad is back, plus he brings presents for everyone."
Kawaki wanted to go, he wanted to greet Naruto, he wanted to be a part of this family without a doubt.
But he wasn't and he never was going to be.
"So." He turned and walked towards the house instead, blocking out the laughter coming from the front gate the best he could.
Boruto stood alone on the lawn watching Kawaki trying to decide what to do, part of him wanted to chase after the boy and drag him back to the family gathering at the gate, but most of him didn't actually want to deal with the boy at the moment, so he turned and let his adopted brother go.
Unsurprisingly Naruto stood at the front gate, dragged down by bags and boxes of stuff for everyone.
It was the best part of having the Hokage as a father, he felt so guilty for leaving that he brought souvenirs for everyone.
Himawari had a new set of paints, Class rep a new Tsukemono kit, Benjiro a new science kit, was just to name a few, his parents really needed to stop bringing home orphans.
"Bolt!" Boruto was almost crushed in a bear hug before his father pulled away and glanced around.
"Where's Kawaki?"
His father asked, which was understandable since Kawaki and Boruto spent most of their time fighting, which meant they spent most of their time together.
"The house."
His father hummed before handing him a long-wrapped object.
Boruto carelessly unwrapped the object throwing away white cloth, as excitement filled him like it was Christmas day in the middle of August.
The object turned out to be a long black sword with a clear diamond embedded in the very tip of the deep red ruby hilt.
"It's beautiful." He gasped momentarily stunned by the sheer beauty of it.
"The moment I saw it I thought of you, it was crafted by the very best in Sunagakure."
Naruto ruffled his son's hair before turning back to his missing son.
"Lunch will be ready soon," Hinata told him, as they locked eyes, Naruto realized she was really telling him to take all the time he needed to talk to Kawaki, while she kept the other kids busy.
Naruto kissed him and thanked God for the millionth time that he had married such a wonderful and amazing woman.
Naruto knew what it was like to be feared and hated, that pretty much described his childhood, he knew what it was like to grow up without a family, heck he didn't even have friends until he joined team seven.
And even though it was brief and not as traumatizing as other things he had lived through, he did know what it was like to be treated and seen as only a weapon.
Any one of these things he could easily talk about and help Kawaki get through, but Kawaki had taken to avoiding him even before he had left on his short trip to the land of wind.
Meaning Naruto actually had no idea how to reach or help his son, with whatever was bothering him.
Naruto reached the top of the stairs and his son's door, he knocked gently and waited for a response before opening it.
Kawaki was sitting on his bed polishing his sword and pretending not to care about anything.
Naruto easily recognized the I-don't-care-about-anything-but-only-because-I-care-about-everything attitude from Sasuke.
None the less he pulled a chair from the desk and sat down in it so he was facing his son.
"Here I got you this," he handed the boy a small long box. "I found it at a small shop just outside the village, and I thought you'd like it."
Kawaki opened the box and stared down at the blue dragon bracelet, its eyes were captivatingly yellow, like the sun, like Bolt's hair, like Naruto's smile.
Kawaki didn't even realize he was crying until a teardrop splashed against the blue metal.
Not only did he have two wonderful people in his life that cared if he lived or died, but they also fed him, clothed him, and made sure he had a bed to sleep in.
They also bought him gifts and thought of him when they were away on business trips, he had a family.
"Kawaki?" Naruto was starting to get worried that Kawki hated the gift, he knew he wasn't always the best at gift shopping, but never before had one of the kids broken down crying over one of his gifts.
"If you-." Naruto was cut off by Kawaki tackling him into a hug, one hand still clutching the bracelet and box.
Naruto returned the hug and tried not to remember the first time someone had gotten him a gift, a simple bowl of Ramien from Iruka for his eighth birthday.
Hinata smiled when Naruto and Kawaki stumbled down the stairs laughing about something or other.
Her son was fine and happy and even laughing for the first time since they had taken him in, and her husband was back to being his over-the-top sunshiny self.
As she set the table, her new charm for her bracelet bounced against her wrist.
The new charm was the Roman numerals IX, in honor of their new son.
Hinata smiled and picked up her daughter Himawari, life was good in the Uzumaki household.
