The chirping of birds was the first thing she recognized in the darkness surrounding her, the second was the air entering her lungs as she gasped. Her sapphire eyes shot open and she immediatly flinched away from the assaulting sunlight. A sweet smell tickled her nostrils as a cool breeze blew by, after a moment of adjusting she finally sat up to survey her surroundings. Oak tree's with plush green leaves loomed above her, the grass was soft and damp and a meadow of flowers was glowing just a jog away. Where am I? She thought to herself.
Alice.
The girl jerked her head around frantically, the voice had been faint and echoed in her mind like an old song. It was familiar, but she did not know why. "Who's there?" She asked.
Her name is Alice. The voice whispered, sending a chill down the girl's spine.
"Alice? That must be my name..." Scanning the forest once more Alice determined the speaker was not in the physical realm, which meant it was somehow in her head. "Who are you? Where am I?" She asked more firmly this time.
Punch the tree.
Alice blinked. That was an odd request, however she couldn't quite pin down why. Deciding she'd better listen seeing as how she had literally zero memory of who she was or how she got there, the girl complied. She turned and with all of her might she punched the tree behind her- "OW!" She cried out, stumbling back and nursing her fist. Before her eyes the tree exploded into neatly cut logs of wood, laid out on the grass as if an axman had just been there. "Oh..." Her fist still ached, but the pain was quickly fading. The girl picked up the wood, noticing she had a backpack on her deposited it into the bag. Somehow Alice felt no more heavy then she had before acquiring the oak, but again considering her circumstance she decided not to question it.
"Okay, so what now?" There was no reply. Alice waited approximately three seconds before her patience wore out, she turned to the meadow and decided that was where she wanted to go. She started walking, but after only a few steps she stopped as she heard a branch snap somewhere behind her. She looked around as her heart beat picked up, something groaned in the distance and just like that Alice was zooming through the woods and out into the golden light. The deep blue sky sat above her like a void, and Alice found herself admiring it momentarily as her adrenaline calmed down. Looking back she saw that nothing had followed her; thank the spirit.
Alice smiled as she took in the scenery, flowers bloomed in all colors around her and she could see distinct mountains standing proud in the distance. Snatching up a red flower the girl took a sniff, then she grabbed a few of each color and stored them in her bag with the collected wood.
Make some tools.
"Gah!" Alice jumped and looked around before remembering he phantom voice. "Oh, right heheh." She squinted. "What do you mean make tools? What kind of tools?"
A crafting bench, an axe, something to mine stone with.
Alice bit her lip, kneeling down she pulled her back pack off and grabbed some wood from it. Instinct told her to place each log in a square shape on the ground, and just like that what she presumed to be the crafting table appeared like magic. "Okay, one item down." She pulled out more wood and crafted an axe, then she made a pickaxe- She seemed to know what she was doing without any instructions, which was cool and all but the girl still didn't know WHY she needed to do this. The next thing she knew she'd run out of wood, she picked up her things and put them in her bag. She slung it back over her shoulder, noting that still it was light. "Now what?" Seconds passed and there was no answer. Alice groaned, she turned and began walking to the mountains. Her stomach rumbled and suddenly her throat felt dry. Am I hungry? Alice looked around some more hoping to find some apple trees. Her eyes landed on something green that stuck out from the tree-line, the thing was moving and Alice had to lean in a bit to make out what it was.
Run. The voice whispered.
Squinting Alice watched as the figure shambled toward her, it was about a hundred yards away and moving fast- Realization filled her soul. Is that a zombie? Just as the thing stepped into the open air a large black cloud rolled in from beyond the woods. "Oh shit." Something inside her snapped as the Zombie roared and began charging toward her under the shade.
RUN!
Alice didn't need anymore encouragement, she turned and high-tailed it out of their and into the direction of the mountain range. Thunder echoed just behind as the dark cloud out ran her, Alice felt cold droplets of rain occasionally hit her bare skin as she sprinted. Taking one look behind she was relived to find that the monster would not catch up to her considering how much of a head start she had. She looked back ahead and pushed herself to run faster, there was something kinda exhilarating about feeling the cool shade on her back and the damp grass beneath her bare feet. Then thunder cracked again and the moment was gone, now Alice just wanted to get to safety.
Find shelter. The phantom voice breathed in her mind, Alice was surprised she could still hear it clearly over the wind whipping past her and the booms of lightening.
"Shelter, got it." She huffed. It didn't take the girl long to cross the meadow and enter another forest, this one had red leaves instead of green- A very autumn look, despite the temperature feeling like early spring. Shielded from the now pouring rain Alice had time to rest and look for a place to hide, she found a small cave in the mountainside and decided that would be the best place to relax. Still she worried about the zombie, what if there was more? Something innate in her told the girl that the creature couldn't exist in sunlight, and that was why it only charged after her once it was shielded by the rain cloud. That was pretty weird how that storm rolled in just like that... Alice used a large rock to block enough of the cave entrance to keep any curious creatures out, upon exploring the cave she found that it didn't lead to anywhere, and, in fact it looked man-made!
She plopped herself down at the back and leaned herself against the wall, closing her eyes she breathed calmly as she listened to the droplets cascade down the boulder. Thunder clapped in the background but at this point the girl had grown used to the sound, her lids became heavy and she hugged her knees to her chest as darkness slowly crept into her mind.
Blinking once Alice found herself in a world of white, she couldn't hear nor taste nor smell anything. She blinked again and a girl stood in front of her, her skin was pale, her hair a platinum blonde and her eyes a brilliant amethyst. "Alice." The girl smiled.
Find her.
