This takes place in an alternate universe, meaning, in real life. When I miss being a kid, I like to write and so here I am. It's a guilty pleasure. I hope you enjoy the first chapter. Reviews are much appreciated as they are motivators!

Chapter 1: New Beginnings
A young female adult with light brown shoulder-length hair and sapphire eyes was starting her first day at the National Oak University (NOU) in the Kanto region. National Oak University was one of the elite universities across the globe; ranking number one. Their high-quality interactive medical program and research for human health, innovative engineering programs, and international business is what makes NOU so competitive.
The brunette walked around the campus with her luggage behind, observing the beautiful scenery of modern buildings that form the campus and the crowds of students. She couldn't believe that she was accepted at one of the top universities across the world, especially on a partial scholarship.
She expected to be rejected, but her hard work and passion proved her wrong. Ever since the end of high school, she loved the power of make-up and skin care and how that could help people feel beautiful. May Maple was excited to start her next chapter in life.
Hmm, I just need to make a left, and this should be the girls' dormitory, she thought as she was looking at the map on her phone. What she didn't notice was that there was a small pothole on the cement where her foot got stuck and her entire body fell forward. Her precious phone flew out of her hand only to hit a student in the face that was in front of her.
"GYAH" she yelled as she fell flat on her face to the cold, rough ground. "The student winced, rubbing the side of his cheekbone where the phone smacked him. "What the fuck was that?" he muttered as his eyes were locked on the smartphone on the ground.
"My phone!" exclaimed May as she got up and ran towards it. Just as she was about to reach for it, another hand grabbed it before her. "Is this yours?" asked the male student.
May looked up and noticed his pale green hair with emerald-green eyes. She couldn't help but noticed how flawless his skin was, except for the red spot that was hit by the object.
"So what?" she grabbed out of his hands to inspect if there were any damage to it. "Tch, don't you think you should apologize first, airhead?" he responded annoyed.
May immediately thought he was a stuck-up, rude snob. She realized she should have apologized first but she did not like his attitude, and who was he to call her an airhead.
She huffed, "Well if you didn't call me an airhead, I would have apologized anyways but now I don't feel like it, grasshead!" she rolled her eyes.
He glared at her, "Oh, so now you're calling names?" How dare she make fun of my green hair, he irritably thought.
"Yeah, grasshead, what are you going to do about it?" she retorted.
He scowled, "Having this conversation is useless with an airhead like you."
"Just so you know, we both go to the same university, I am just as smart as you!" she exclaimed.
The male student started to walk away, "Only an airhead like you will keep trying to continue the fight."
The brunette stuck her tongue out at him, "What a dick" she mumbled.
After what seemed like an endless journey of finding her dormitory and room, she finally arrived. She figured it would be nice to share a room with another freshman as it would increase the chances of making friends and also decrease her living cost.
She stood in front of room and took a deep breath. She reminded herself that she's going to be okay, and she can do this. She scanned her student ID dorm key she received while checking in and opened the door.
This revealed another long-haired brunette with who was unpacking her luggage on her bed. She smiled, "Oh you must be my new roommate! I'm Leaf Green."
May observed her how long her hair actually was, it was to her waist, and she was wearing light denim ripped mom jeans and a grey hoodie.
May smiled back, "I'm May Maple."
She reached out her hand for a friendly handshake.
The dorm was better than she anticipated; there was two single beds on both sides of the room, two desks beside their beds, and windows in front of their desk. It seemed like to the left side of the room is the bathroom with a shower and toilet. A little cramped, but hey what can you do, thought May.
"It's nice to meet you!" Leaf responded as she accepted the handshake. She brought a simple panel room divider screen to May's attention, "I figured we would be stuck in a small room with little privacy so I figured this might come in handy! We can put it up when we need to and put it off to the side whenever. I usually like sleeping when I know I'm in complete privacy." Leaf explained.
"This is perfect!" May agreed, "Thank you so much for bringing this." May celebrated to herself, it looks like I don't have a psycho roommate, she thought.
May walked over to her side of the room and started to unpack. She placed her family photo on her desk and looked at it preciously. It has her father, mother, and younger brother all smiling in the photo. "I hope you're doing okay, Mom." she mumbled quietly to herself.
"So, May, are you from Kanto region?" Leaf asked, as she was finishing unpacking. The brunette shook her head, "Nah, I'm from Hoenn region, yourself?"
"Oh, that's so cool! I never gone but I've always wished!" replied Leaf, "You see, I haven't really gone outside of the Kanto region."
"Kanto is a really nice place, so I think we're lucky to go to school here." May responded.
Leaf grinned, "You bet! My best childhood friends were also accepted here, so I'm pretty happy to be able to stick with them. I'll introduce you guys if they stop by!"
May felt Leaf's kindness and warm heart, "That is so sweet. I wish I had a friend that was at this school with me."
"You don't have to worry, May! I like you and so let's be friends. I'm sure Gary and Ash would also want to be your friend." Leaf suggested.
"Really?" May replied, she was so worried about coming here alone. She was second-guessing herself because she didn't want to leave her family, but her mother insisted for her to go and to not stay behind because of her.
Her roommate grinned, "You bet!"
Suddenly, they heard knocks on their door. Leaf opened it and revealed two males. One male had spiky auburn hair, and beside him had dark black hair with a hat.
"You finished unpacking yet?" questioned the raven-haired boy.
"Almost!" Leaf answered. He crossed his arms over his chest, "Aw, c'mon hurry, let's go eat!"
The auburn hair boy nudged his friend, "Only Ashy-loser-boy would whine like this."
Leaf laughed, "You two never changed!" The brunette focused her attention to her new friend, "Oh, this is my new roommate May Maple! May, this is Ash Ketchum and Gary Oak. My two childhood friends that I mentioned earlier."
"Hey, nice to meet you." May said.
"Likewise." Gary coolly responded.
"Do you also want to come out to eat with us?" suggested Ash.
May smiled, "Sure, that'd be great!" She wanted to decline the offer, but she figured she should try and make friends and plus, she didn't want to unpack. She might have also said yes to procrastinate.
"Alright, give us like ten minutes and wait for us in the front." Commanded Leaf as she shoved those two out of their room.
She grinned at May, "See! I told you, no problem at all."
"Thanks again for sharing your friends." May said. She wasn't used to people being so nice and sharing their friends with her. All throughout high school, everyone was in a clique and you did not interact with those outside your group.
She wasn't in the popular group and she qualified to be one of those happy go lucky ugly duckling in high school. She shook those awful memories out of her head to bring herself to the present time.
"Honestly, May, it is not a big deal at all." Leaf reassured.
She was also happy to receive such a normal roommate as she heard horror stories of sharing a room with a complete stranger. Leaf wanted to be friends with May since she thinks she is cool. May was wearing black biker shorts and a white oversize crewneck with a fanny pack across her shoulder. She really liked May's casual style than rather people dressing up on the first day of university.
The two girls smiled at each other and then walked out to meet their friends in front of their building. They decided to go check out this famous café restaurant known as PokéCafé. As the four of them sat down at the table, Leaf asked about their roommates.
"My roommate wasn't even in the dorm when I entered." Answered Ash.
"Shocker, you are there earlier than the other person." Commented Leaf.
"Hey! What's that suppose to mean?" he replied.
"It means you are you're never on time, Ashy-loser-boy." Snickered Gary. Ash huffed, "I told you to stop calling me that!"
Leaf shook her head, "Don't worry about them, they bicker like this all the time, I swear they have the hots for each other."
May giggled, "Well, they definitely seem like they have a close relationship."
"NO, WE DON'T!" they both shouted simultaneously.
"See, they are even in-sync with their responses." Leaf laughed.
May laughed alongside with Leaf, "So what about you, Gary? Have you met your roommate?"
Gary sighed, "Yeah. His name is Drew Hayden, he kind of seems like an arrogant know-it-all but he's not bad."
May instantly thought of her encounter with the green-haired man this morning.
"That reminds of someone who I bumped into earlier, he called me an airhead!" complained May.
Leaf gasped, "What? Why?" she exclaimed.
May groaned, "Yeah, he was so rude and stuck-up. I mean like, okay it was my fault because I tripped and my phone went flying to his face and I cared about my phone more than him, but I was going to apologize! Before I could, he called me an airhead, so I didn't, and I called him a name back." She explained.
Leaf sweat dropped, "I mean I can see why he was annoyed but there was no need to call you an airhead."
Ash laughed, "What name did you call him back?"
May shrugged, "It wasn't anything offensive I'd say, but I called him a grass-head."
Gary and Ash laughed while clutching their stomach, "Why?" they asked.
"Well, that's because he has green hair and so I thought it was odd and I couldn't really think of anything else."
"Oh, wait." Gary said, "My roommate Drew has green-hair!"
"Hey Gary." someone called from afar.
Leaf and May turned around to see a certain green-haired man walking towards the table.
The auburn-haired male sweat dropped, "I forgot to mention I invited him to grab a meal with us."
May shot glares at Gary, while Gary chuckled as he rubbed the back of his head.
Ash chuckled and elbowed Gary on the side, "Nice going." He sarcastically said.
The green-haired man frowned when he recognized the short-haired brunette, "Who would've thought I'd see the airhead again." He remarked.
May scowled and crossed her arms, "Well, I didn't think I'd see you so soon either, grasshead."
Before Drew could respond, Leaf interrupted them, "Now, now let's enjoy a nice meal on our first day of university."
Leaf was used to acting as the mediator due to Ash and Gary's arguments all the time. I swear, I should be getting paid for this, she thought to herself.
"So, everyone, this is Drew Hayden, my roommate." Gary introduced, "The guy beside me is Ashy-boy, and her name is Leaf Green, and I guess you know of May Maple."
Ash grumbled, "Just call me Ash."
Drew snickered, "I kind of like Ashy-boy."
"If you want another person calling you grasshead, so be it." He retorted.
Drew flickered his green hair, "Nice to meet you, Ash."
May and Leaf laughed at the small interaction, "Yeah, be nice grasshead." May added.
"Oh, shut it, airhead." He responded.
~~~ Hours later at the PokéCafé ~~~~
The sun was setting, and it was getting dark out. "I think we should call it for a night." Leaf suggested as she looked out the window.
The others agreed, "Yeah, I think I better get back to my room and meet my new buddy." Ash shrugged.
The five freshmen got up from their table and all went to pay at the front. "Hey, you wanna head back to the dorm, Gary?" said Ash he pointed in their direction.
Gary shrugged, "Can't, Leaf and I gotta stop by somewhere before we call it a night." May looked at Leaf and she noticed a slight blush on her face, but probably not enough for others to tell.
Ash being the dense guy he is shrugged it off, "Alright, later then." As he walked off. Drew smirked, "Where are you guys going?"
Well, maybe Leaf's blush is not enough for Ash to tell. "It's none of your business.'" Gary coolly said.
"We have this tradition on our first day of school that we…" Leaf trailed off, looking to the side.
"We…?" both Drew and May questioned, hoping for Leaf to answer.
"that we go to the corner store to get ramen and ice cream." Leaf grinned while her hand is representing the peace sign.
Drew and May sighed, "You didn't need to be so suspicious about it." The brunette said.
"I just felt bad for leaving you alone to walk to the dorms, May. It's dark out right now." Leaf explained.
She turned to Drew, "Do you mind walking her back to the dorm?"
Drew flickered his hair, "I don't think anyone would go after her, but I am a gentleman."
May huffed, "I don't need you to walk me home!" She looked at Leaf, "I appreciate your thought, but really, it's not necessary."
Leaf sighed, "I know, but it just makes me feel less anxious knowing that you won't be alone to your dorm, so I take it that you will Drew?"
He nodded, "C'mon airhead, let's go." May did not like the idea of having this grasshead walking her back to the dorm, but she guess it couldn't hurt her.
"What game are you trying to get at?" Gary asked as he watched his two new friends walk away. Leaf grinned, "What do you mean?"
He shook his head at her, "I don't even want to know."
He got down at eye-level to his friend and looked into her warm light brown eyes. This caused the brunette to turn bright red as she wasn't used to having her friend stare into her for so long.
Then came a flick on her forehead, "OW!" she exclaimed as she rubbed the spot.
"Let's go, Leafy!" he said as he started walking ahead of her.
~~~~ walk back ~~~
"You know, you really don't have to walk me back." Said May.
"It's fine." He replied as he looked far in the distance.
May noticed that he was few inches taller than her, he was about five foot nine and she was about five foot four. Despite having an odd color of hair, it suits his pale white face. It also did not seem like he artificially dyed his hair. May wondered if it was even possible to have green hair.
As May was in her thoughts, her pace slowed even more. Drew noticed and turned around, "Hey slowpoke, hurry up."
May shook her head to snap herself out of it, "Coming!" She ran towards Drew to catch up. "Took you long enough airhead, why were you checking me out from behind?"
May rolled her sapphire blue eyes, "Very funny, grasshead. You're going to have to look better than that for me to do so."
"You know I caught you." He responded with a smirk.
"Did not." She defended with a slight blush. She was not checking him out… was she?
"Did too." He replied.
"Ugh, whatever. I'm not having this fight with you, grasshead." She said as saw her campus building.
Drew smirked, "It's because you know I'm right." Before May could reply back, Drew said, "Good night," as he held his hand up while walking away.
May watched him as he got smaller, and a small smile appeared on her face. Despite being a jerk, she felt he wasn't a bad guy.
She went back to her room to finish unpacking. She wondered what was going on with Leaf and Gary, could they be dating?
She looked at her family photo, today was a lot better than expected.
