I open my eyes as I hear the bell of my door as it opens. My eyes are blinded by one of my blinds being open and I rub them as the world starts becoming clear. I'm in my detective office which is a few blocks away from crime alley or East End as it is known. My offices is a decent size of an apartment that I turned into an office with a nice room for me to relax in and watch some tv or my waiting room if I ever get a lot of business. Also, there is a kitchen in there as well. The other two sections of my office is my desk with some stuff to give a detective vibe with some coats hanging off the wall as well.
The last one is my room to sleep. My bathroom's door is connected to my waiting room. The person that so rudely awaken me from my rest is Selina Kyle the woman that lives in the apartment above me. I also know since I'm not blind or an idiot, that she is Catwoman. You see I'm Magnus Mooney the owner and only employee of Mooney's Detective agency. I help those for a little fee in Gotham. It also helps that I own some stock in some companies for me to live like this.
I get a rolled-up newspaper thrown at me and I stare at the cat thief with a glare. She smirks at me and says "you were in your 'noir mode' again Magnus. You really do try to act like those stupid dime novel detectives. Also let's not talk about those fedora hats you wear every time you're on a case." I sigh as she tries to get a rise out of me. Sadly, she is one of my first clients when I opened up my agency. So i put up with her a lot.
I say while stretching my arms to wake myself up a little "well good morning to you as well Selina." I then glance at the newspaper to see the headline (Batman and Robin take down the Joker). I have seen these headlines so many of times when that madman get's out. I say to my neighbor "Well I sadly like those types of novels and also let's leave my hats out of that. Heck you suggested for me to wear them since they are my good luck charm."
Selina looks at me with a deadpan look and I shake my head at her as I start reading on what the joker did this time. This better be not another I put my face on some fishes plan again. That was just sad to read about. Honestly how did he think that would work. Still, I just ask Selina "So why are you here Selina? You only come to talk with me at night. Heck you are usually asleep or getting ready for some party to go to later in the day." I turn to page to see that Bruce Wayne is on some trip to some island he owns with his son. It says that they should be back home before the end of the week. I honestly hate the Gotham Gazette. It's eighty percent gossip.
"well, I came here to tell you I am going on a trip for a few days and want you to check up on my cats. Do you remember where I keep the food and extra litter?" I nod as I have cat sit for her a few times. Honestly, I think it shows that she trusts me a little. I nod and say as I put the news paper to look at the beautiful woman that is one of my few friends in this horrible city "Of course. I have never said no to helping you once Selina. So, what's your trip about? Is it personal like when you went to Asia or business?" She smiles as she touches her cat jewel neckless, she has. She told me it was a gift from Bruce Wayne.
The catty thief says "A little bit of both dear Magnus. Now since you agreed to help, I shall pack up to leave for my trip. I will get you a souvenir for helping me." I watch as she leaves my office. Ever though she is a thief I know she steals from those on the wrong side of the law. Also, I know she does give some money back to east end. So, I just let the little note of her 'job' be forgotten every time I see Catwoman mention in the paper.
I read the paper some more to read about how some people have been turning into diamonds. This is the fifth times this week. Sadly, these incidents happen in the day so Batman is not usually out to stop them. I wonder if it's the work of a -. My thoughts are broken when the bell of my door rings that someone has entered my office. I lower the paper to see a kid around ten or so with a red hoodie on that looks to have some small holes. Most likely poor and no money to give my fee. He also has black hair and blue eyes. I can tell from just one look he's got some rage, but everyone needs that to survive this city if you're not wealthy.
He sits down at the seat across from me. I put my paper down and look at the boy. I ask, "You got a job for me?" He nods and says "A kid's mom that lives a few doors away from me has been missing for a few days now. He hasn't stop crying for her and I ask if anyone know someone that could help. Well, the doctor near Crime Ally told me about you." Ah so Dr Thompkins told him about me. Good lady. I ask, "So what's your name?" He says "Jason Todd." I nod and then ask, "So is the dad dead or not helping find the mother of his child?"
Jason just looks angry and says "He is a low life than left them when he got a chance at the mob after going broke for being a dumbass. He doesn't give a shit." His tone and face show me that this hits a little to close to home for him. I already know my answer for taking the case and say, "Alright I'll do it." Jason looks shocked and he says, "I can't pay you much, but I have-." I stop him and say with some joy in my voice "No I'll do it for free."
The shock looks on his face buts a giant grin on mine as I walk up to the mirror to clean up my face a little. My wild black hair and emerald, green eyes greet me. My black button up shirt as the first two buttons unbutton. I take a white blazer and my white fedora with a black strip. Then I reach for my briefcase that I leave near my mirror with my gear to help me on the case.
Before I can say I'm on the case I hear a rumble coming from Jason's stomach. I sigh but ask "You want some food, Jason? I know a good dinner nearby. They serve the best pancakes and some good burgers. I'll pay." The street kid nods but puts up his hood to hide his embarrassment. We walk to a little bit nicer part of town as we reach Jay's Dinner. When we go inside, I see the place is not to busy even though it's a Saturday. The diner is like an old 50's style.
As we walk to a booth, I see Commissioner Gordon with his daughter eating some breakfast. I nod my head to the man since I knew him for a few years before I opened up my business. That was some time ago. Also, his daughter is almost out of high school. Only two years younger than me. Odd to think. Heck Batman has been around for five years. (Dick is 16, Barba is 18, Jason is 13 and Bruce is 30) I say, "Nice to see you again Mr. Gordon." Jim smiles and Jason looks in awe at Barbra. God, I hope Jim doesn't kill the boy. One of the best cops in this corrupt city has says "Please Magnus I have told you to call me Jim. I have known you when you were sixteen trying to play detective. Who is the kid?"
Jason is shocked out of his awe and looks at Jim like a deer caught in head lights. I smirk at that and say, "he is my current client." Jim gives me a smile as he says, "Heck sit down with us Babs can move over to sit with me." I nod and the beautiful redhead moves to sit with her dad. I sit down to be the one not near the end of the seat. Jason is hesitant to sit down but does and puts down his hood.
The waitress takes mine and Jason's order. When she leaves, Jim asks "So what's your cases this time Magnus. I hope it's not another pet one or I may call you ace Ventura." I sigh since he is right that some of my cases are only a simple my pet is missing cases. I say to Jason "Tell me the details like the woman's name?" Gordon just sighs since he knows I take a few cases without knowing the full cases.
Jason says with some awkwardness in his voice "Her name is Tina Knight. She has been trying to make money since her ex left her and their son. Her son hasn't seen her in six days." I made a note of that in my head. I ask, "What's the kids name?" Jason says, "His name is Bobby." I nod and say "Well it seems I'm going to see little Bobby to talk to. Can you show me where he lives when we are done with breakfast?" Jason nods and I start asking how Jim has been. We talk some more till I hear Barbra ask Jason "Is he doing this case for free as well?" Jason looks a little spooked that she talked to him. He nods and a smile appears on her face as Jim gives me a not again look. I just shake my head and tell Jason to let me out so I can go to the restroom.
Third POV
As Magnus leaves Jim says mostly to himself "That kid needs to stop doing cases for free." Jason says with less awkwardness from being so close to a cop asks "Does he do a lot of free cases? I was going to offer money but he." He trails off and Barbra ask, "Did you tell him anything about crying?" Jason nods and Jim has a knowing smirk on his faces. He says "Yeah I known it sounds odd but if you mention crying to Magnus he takes the case for free. For some reason he hates hearing about people crying." Jason is shocked for that simple reason but Barbra says "I ask him once and he told me he just hates seeing people cry or hear about it."
Jason was confused but his thoughts are interrupted by the waitress giving him his breakfast. Later in his life Jason thought of this day with joy at a simpler life. He wonders if it was fate that he met the white hat detective and the first batgirl.
Sometime later
Magnus POV
I was following Jason to Bobby's house which this building looks like it fits with the rest of crime Alley. There are some rats just hanging out in the open. We stop at a door that looks just one good push from breaking. Jason lightly knocks and a little blond boy with some tan skin. He shows some Hispanic traits. Bobby looks like he has been crying with his eyes looking bloodshot. My fist clenches around my suitcase as some anger fills my head but I focus on the case. Jason says "Hey I got this detective to help find your mom. He is going to ask some questions." Bobby nods and lets me into a crappy looking place that no child should live in.
I but my case down and kneel to be eye level on the at lest five years old child. I put my hat down and ask, "You been doing, okay?" He nods and I ask "Jason told me your scared for your mom. I also know you have been crying a little. Now I'm going to find your mom but I'm going to ask some questions. Okay?" He nods and I see some hope in his eyes. That's better than some sadness. I turn to Jason and get my wallet out to give him some money. I tell him "Go to the closest place to get a teddy bear for Bobby." Jason nods and leaves. I ask Bobby if he had a photo of his Mom. He shows me one of the few decorations in here. She is a blonde with brown eyes. I also ask him "Did your mom say anything before she left?"
Bobby looks to be thinking and says "She said she would get money to live the way we once did. I didn't understand." I then ask, "Where did you once live?" He told me a nicer place high above the streets. So, his dad must have had a high paying job. I ask, "What did your dad do?" He tells me "He said he was a CEO. I hear that a lot on the news. Mommy said he was the big boss." So, he was a CEO but got broke. Wait didn't that company got bought by Wayne a few months ago. So, I ask, "Bobby what is your last name?" He says, "Well Mommy said Knight, but Dad's was Sionis." My eyes go wide since one of my informants yesterday told me about a violent new mob boss that came around two months ago. His name is Black Mask or Roman Sionis. I ask, "Did your Mommy hate your dad when he left?" He nods and Jason comes back with a teddy bear with a little hat. Bobby's eyes are fill of joy when Jason gives it to him.
I calm down and but a smile on my face. I take the photo of Tina Knight with my stuff. I say to Bobby "Don't worry I'll get your Mom back to you. I'm going to need to borrow this photo. I promise to give it back. Jason, may I ask for your help in the case some more?" He nods and we leave to head to one of my informants. I ask to Jason on the way "Did Ms. Knight ever talk about her ex?" Jason says "All I heard was he was horrible and a jealous man. Why do you ask?" I sigh and say "Well her ex is the new mask wacko on the street. Black Mask or Roman Sionis."
Jason says while trying to be quiet "Holy shit. I heard he almost destroyed the Falcone family on his first try. Wait who are we going to see?" I say "Well I have a hunch and we will be visiting the police and Gotham Gazette. You don't have to go with me Jason if you don't." I hear the kid say "No way in hell. I'm going to help. I might not know Bobby so well, but he is a good kid." I smirk at that as we head to my first informant. I just hope she is not in a bad mode. Hopefully I don't need to go to my second informant. I hate talking to them.
GCPD
I was standing at the front of the desk of Renee Montoya one of the good cops in Gotham. She helped me out with some blackmail cases I had who was trying to bribe him for fake adultery. She was wearing her police uniform and says "So you want me to give you some info on this Tina Knight? Look Magnus I would love to help but this place is in a stir with the Joker in our custody. Also, Bullock is making me do the paperwork for these diamond people cases. I have no idea why this can't go to organize crime?" That's odd and before I can ask Jason beats me to the punch to ask "Why do you say that?"
Renee looks like she just slipped up and sighs that turns to a glare when she says "You do not tell Gordon I tell you this. I know you share meals with him sometimes but not a word." We both nod at the authority that the woman holds in her voice. She says "Well all the cases are happening to places Roman Sionis bought back since he joined crime. Places like restaurants he took his girls at or places his old company owned. Heck this person has only like one more place to hit."
My eyes go wide at this and I ask "Tina Knight is the mother of Roman's kid. She has been distraught to get her old life back for her son. She also never shown to have powers." Renee's eyes go wide and we both think the same thing. Dopant. Renee goes to get the info I want. Jason looks confused and I say "What I'm about to tell you only a few people in this city knows about. The police keep it quiet and only the ones Gordon trust know it. About two years ago these odd usb looking things were being sold on the street. They are expensive but dangerous. They are called Gaia Memories. If you use them, they can give you superpowers like using flames. The good thing is these Gaia Memories are not able to be used by everyone."
Jason is shocked but asks "How come no one has found out?" I smirk at that and I say "Well in the past two years there has only been three cases of these Gaia Memories being used. Heck I got to ask one salesman that sold one and he only told me what I just told you before he died in the middle of questioning. Also, I have a secret weapon to help fight them." Jason is wide eyed and then asks, "Why does batman not do anything?" I sigh and say "The salesman told me he tells every possible client to only uses the powers at day. Batman only operates at night. Heck Jim has not told Batman since these cases are hard to see if they are not just another supervillain with some strange powers. We still don't know but will treat it like it is a Dopant. That's what we call users of Gia Memories."
Jason just shakes his head and ask, "So what are we going to do?" I sigh and say "Well since Tina is Roman's Ex, then some police must have been following her and we will check the places they noted down. We will see if anyone saw her buy or talk to a strange man. The last salesman had a rose pin to his blazer. Hopefully, that's a sign or logo and not some bizarre fashion he had." Jason chuckles and says, "Yeah because you have good fashion sense." I just frown. No one understands amazing fashion when they see it. Before I could tell the kid off Renee comes back with a file labeled Tina Knight-Sionis.
She says before handing me the cases "Don't put that kid in danger alright Magnus." I nod and open the case file. Seems they followed her around these past few months. Seems she works at a convinces store near her home and takes breaks at an okay deli near the store. I memorize the places and hand the file back to Renee. I tell her "Thank you so much officer Montoya. If you ever need anything, please just ask." She rolls her eyes as a smirk crosses her face and says, "Shouldn't I be the one telling you that." I leave with Jason to head to her work.
Sometime later
Me and Jason just came back from where Tina works for nothing to come up. Before we enter the deli Ms. Knight just walks out of the door and starts walking away. Jason goes to yell but I put my hand over his mouth. I tell him "If she is using a Gaia Memory than we need to wait till she is not in public to confront people. Trust me those powers are dangerous." He nods and I let my hand go. We then tail her as I give Jason a few tips.
We follow her for about an hour even on a subway to the rich part of Gotham downtime. When I look around the people are avoiding this place. Heck this must be some place Black Mask owns if she is the diamond power person. I put an hand on Jason's shoulder and tell him with being completely no nonsense "Go somewhere safe and if I'm not back in ten minutes call the police. Here is some change for the phones." I hand him some quarters and he look like he want to come with me but I tell him "Just stay safe. Please Jason." He looks me in the eyes and nods. He starts to walk away to an alley.
I head to the front on an empty street with Ms. Knight only there. It's almost sundown so it makes since people are trying to get home before the rest of Gotham wakes up. I see Ms. Knight holding a Gaia Memory. I say out loud "So you were the person behind the odd diamond people cases. Heck I don't even need to know why. Trust me if someone just dumped me like he did you I'll be mad." Tina turns to me with anger in her eyes and says "He was the reason we went broke. Heck he was horrible to me by cheating on me, but I stayed." A sad look fills her, and I see most likely the true Tina Knight. Sadly, these Gaia Memories have corrupted the other users if direct using to the body. She says "I just want my son to have a good life. Is that so much to handle. I'm busting my butt off to just feed him while that evil man gets to live like a king. Tell me where the justice is in that is?"
She almost to tears. I bet that is what drove her to use that Gaia Memory. I say "you could have stopped but you did not. So why did you keep doing that?" She almost then looks like she turned a flip to act like she was possessed by saying "It felt good to tare down what he did. I love this feeling of power." I can now tell that's the GM (Gaia Memory-only used in thoughts) talking now. She than reveals a rectangle silver looking squarer like a tattoo. She puts the Gia Memory as it says "[Jewel]". She turns into the monster Jewel. (look up Dopant Jewel)
I put my briefcase down to takeout what look like a very weird devices that has a place to but the GM's in. I close my case and but the devices near my belt as a belt now puts the devices on me like a belt. I reach in my jacket to take the Skull GM out. It looked smother than Tina's. I place it in the lost driver as it says "[Skull]". I say "Henshin."
I transform into my Rider look. A black armor that has small shoulder pads that have two silver lines at the ends. On my two armor pecks has three silver lines on them. My wrist and ankles are silver lines. My round head is silver in color with two black holes for eyes and black lines for the mouth. Also, black shapes for the nose. I have my white fedora with a white scarf on my neck. I am Kamen Rider Skull. I did not notice Jason watching me transform. (look up Kamen Rider Skull)
I point to the monster that was Ms. Knight to say, "Now count up your sins!" She goes to grab me, and I grab her wrist to than spin kick her stupid diamond chest piece. When it lands, I jump back to find a nearby bench, and I rip it out of the ground to throw it at her. She grabs it and it turns to a diamond bench. So, it's touch bases good to have confirmed it. I see the sun is going down. Well time to end this quick. I put the Skull memory in my maximum driver and say as my fist has white energy fill it up "Rider punch." I rush to her and go to punch the giant diamond. She goes to grab my arm, but my fist is faster and when my fist makes contact, I feel the diamond break into pieces.
In a flash Ms. Knight is back and on the floor. I untransformed as I rush to her. The GM is broken next to her and she is crying. She says "I was a fool. I should have stop and now I have hurt people." Her tears continue and there is nothing I could do. I hear footsteps and turn to see a vey shocked Jason. He must have seen the fight.
