She made Eve mad, so mad that she left her handcuffed to a chair and locked the door behind her. She went over and over in her head what she could've possibly done to make Eve so upset but she couldn't understand what she did.
She cried, "I'll be a good girl, Eve, I promise. I'll be good! I'll be good!"
She struggled against the handcuffs, let them cut into her skin, she'd forgotten how long she'd been there. But it was night time and she'd lost track of the hours. Where was Eve?
What did she do to upset Eve so much?
Eve!
Eve!
Eve!
She felt like she was suffocating, that she'd never see Eve again. She was filled with fear and grief. She squeezed her eyes shut and screamed for Eve.
But she wakes in bed, screaming out for Eve who's right beside and gathers her into her arms. She holds her close as Villanelle cries into her arms, "Don't leave me, Eve."
"I'm never going to leave you, Villanelle. It's okay, I'm right here. Just go back to sleep."
She doesn't dream again that night, Eve's presence keeps the nightmares away this time. But it's not always for long, they always come back to haunt her. But Eve will always be there when she wakes from them.
