"It'ssss not funny Joe!" Frank tried to scowl at his younger brother, but it ended up as a pout ad Joe just roared louder with laughter. He rolled over on his cot pounding his fist into the mattress as tears started pouring down his face as he laughed in a helpless mess much to Frank's growing irritation. "Joe sssstop it! It happened to youssss to yah know."
Joe had started to calm down as Frank had started talking again but when Frank's face started to color as he realized that he had gotten his lisp back too. Joe covered his mouth with his hands and tried to keep the giggles at bay that threatened to tear him up again. "Sowy Fwankie. I didn't mean to but when you talk its weally funny." Joe noticed that when he spoke, he spoke as he an actual toddler and that struck Frank as being just as funny. So, when Fenton and police officers came barging into the room in the building in which they were being held they were greeted with a 3-year-old Joe and a 4-year-old Frank lying flat out on separate beds laughing raucously at some joke.
"FFFFrank! Joe? What the heck happened?" their fathers confused voice broke through their laughter and made them sit up simultaneously with surprise. Joe immediately held his arms up to be picked up as an officer unlocked their shared cell and Fenton rushed in. Frank just gaped at his brother for a second before turning his gaze to the floor, wrapping his arms around his tiny legs, and saying.
"We got turned back into toddlerssss." Fenton stared at him then stared at the big-blue eyed toddler with bright blond hair that shone with an unreasonable amount of happiness and energy and he knew with a groan that it really was Joe and Frank and they had indeed turned back into toddlers.
After all no other child on the planet could be as happy, energetic, and downright un-freaking-reasonably cute as Joe was when he was 3. And if it happened to joe then It happened to Frank so Fenton reached down for Joe automatically and picked his son up smiling as Joe let out a happy giggle. He turned to Frank and caught him pouting at him before his cheeks turned pink and he buried his head on his knees.
Fenton just rolled his eyes, chuckled at his oldest son and picked Frank up too. Frank let out a gasp at the sudden movement, but a huge smile lit up his face and he grinned at his father and then Joe who grinned back just as wide. As Fenton found himself walking to his car to take his boys' home he groaned aloud "What am I going to tell your Mother?"
Then he gasped and looked wild eyed between Frank and Joe's tiny, puzzled faces. "What am I going to tell Gertrude?" Joe started laughing as he imagined what his tart Aunt would say when she saw her shrunken nephews. Frank stared in horror at his father and then groaned simultaneously with him aloud. They were so getting an earful when the trio got home.
HHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH
"Fenton Hardy! Why are my teenage nephews the size of medium plush toy?" Fenton grimaced as Gertrude's sharp tone cut through the night air just as they walked into their house. Fenton put Frank down who immediately clung to his leg and Joe outright refused to let go of his father, turning his big blue eyes that were starting to brim with tears on his dad, who instantly like pudding, caved.
"Gertrude sshhhhh! Fenton did you find the boys? Are they alright?" Laura's soft voice floated down the stairs and her steps quickened in hope of her boys being returned hopefully unharmed to her. She practically flew into the kitchen only to stop short and put a hand over her gasp as she stood shocked at what she saw.
"Laura I-I don't know how to tell you but-" Fenton wasn't able to finish his sentence as Joe reached his arms out towards his mom, tears spilling over his cheeks and he wailed for his mom.
"MAMAAAAA" Laura was at Fenton's side in a flash, and she took Joe into her arms holding him tight as he cried and cried into her shoulder on which his face was buried soaking her shirt in the process. His now tiny arms wrapped around her neck and she gently lowered herself to the ground her eyes half closed, and Joe still tightly held in her arms as if she held him everything was okay and for Joe it was.
A sniffle made Laura open her eyes and look at a timid Frank still half hiding behind Fenton's legs. She opened up one of her arms towards Frank and he bolted into her warm embrace snuggling into the security and safety of his mom's arms that he hadn't felt since he had been a small kid. Laura loved her boys no matter the age. Gertrude's stern expression faded away and she and Fenton both bent down and wrapped their arms around their family.
HHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH
Frank and Joe were exhausted by the time everyone let go of each other, so Fenton and Laura had put them to bed while Gertrude had rummaged through the attic looking for the boys' old toddler clothes Laura had sentimentally kept. The boys slept peacefully through the night and when Joe awakened in the morning, he found himself in a onesie with brightly yellow sun in the middle of it.
The fuzzy sun had a big smile on its face and Joe giggled while he traced the smile feeling really happy for no reason at all. Joe jerked when a small snore came from his right and he found to his surprise when he rolled over that Frank was a foot away slightly bunched up against the headboard sleeping. Joe looked around the room confused because his bed didn't have a headboard and realized that they were sleeping in their parents' room and their bed.
Joe tired of waiting around and crawled over to Frank to wake him up. Joe saw what Frank was wearing and started giggling before hurriedly smothering his giggles into his arm then crept closer to his brother. Almost on top of Frank Joe poised his hands and got ready. He quietly counted in his head and almost lost track trying to stop himself from giggling. 3…2…1…
Frank was rudely awakened by being tickled and the first thing out of his mouth was a laugh. Frank heard Joe giggling so when he turned and spotted Joe right beside him taking a reprieve from tickling him. Frank saw his opportunity for payback and swift like a trained Marine swooped on for the tickling kill. Joe had no idea what hit him cause as he had wiped his big blue eyes with his toddler hands a neon orange something sprang on him and he felt a sensation spread from his arm pits and covering his body. Joe burst out laughing his little hands trying to weakly push Frank off him but to no avail.
Joe out of breath called Uncle and Frank finally let up. Joe lay there catching his breath before shoving himself into a sitting position and said with twinkling eyes "Fwankie why you look like an owange?" Frank stared at him for a second before looking down and realizing with horror and a wail of despair that he was wearing a very bright orange onesie. Frank glared at Joe's chubby laughing face and grumbled at him.
"Sssshut up Joe."
"Frank, we do not use that word in this house young man." Frank winced as his mother's voice gently scolded him and he watched her walk into the room before saying.
"Ssssory Mom." Laura bit her lip trying not to laugh at how adorable Frank's lisp was and how cutely ridiculous he looked in his neon orange onesie. Laura somehow managed to control herself and arriving at the bed picked up Joe and turning she called back to Frank.
"I'm going to start the bath, Frank. Could you please go ask your aunt if she found any daytime clothes for you, munchkins to wear?" Joe giggled and clung to his mom in laughter as she spun them around grinning in fun at her youngest.
"Okay Mommy." Frank gently slid off the bed and wandered out of the room to go find his aunt. When he returned with the clothes and a small look of distain at the brightly colored clothes which screamed Joe, he heard the bath water shut off and the low murmur of his mom's voice. A second later he jumped a bit as a small shriek came from the bathroom and a minute later Laura stepped out of the bathroom half of her shirt soaking wet.
Frank smiled widely but clamped a hand against his mouth when his mom looked at him. he started giggling when she gave him a fake stern look and rana round the room as she chased him yelling "NOOooo, help a water monster aftersssss me!" she finally caught up to him and picking him up gently hung him upside much to his glee. After putting him right-side up and hugging him tight she put hi down and headed for the door. she turned around and told him "Joe's already in the bath so you can wait till he's done, or you can hop in now." She turned to go then thought of something else and looking back at her son with a sheepish smile said.
"Actually, even if you take your bath after could you please look after you brother and make sure he doesn't drown the bathroom in water?" Frank nodded his head looking a bit proud to be asked to look after his brother even in his small state. Laura smiled, blew him a kiss, and left to go change her shirt in the bathroom downstairs. Frank took a step towards the bathroom to go check on Joe when he heard a cry coming from inside the bath.
"Joe? Joey? You'ssss okay?" not hearing an answer Frank hurried toward the door leading to his brother but like a light switch suddenly he felt an aching pain across his small body, and he felt himself falling right before everything faded quickly to black.
HHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH
Frank's body felt heavy, and he struggled to get used to the weight as he slowly opened his eyes. He lay there for a minute letting his body adjust then he sat up and realized 2 things. 1, he had reverted back to his wonderous 18-year-old body again. Frank had started to feel just the tiniest hint of despair wondering when or if they would change back. 2, The onesies his mom had put him in lay in tatters on the floor and he was… not wearing anything at all.
His face got red, and he scrambled up and snatched the towel that Laura had put on top of the dresser for him, winding it around his waist. He sighed now that he was at least half decent he wondered why he had reverted back. He was very happy to be back though, and he shrugged though usually the curious one he felt content just to believe that whatever the mad scientist had did to them had just worn off.
"Oh shoot. Joe!" Frank ran to the bathroom door but found to his chagrin that it was locked. "Joe? Joe...Joe come on man open, the door. JOE!" Frank rattled the door handle multiple scenarios running through his mind as to why his brother wasn't answering him. He could still be unconscious or what if he was unconscious, still a kid, and he was drowning in the bathtub! Maybe he turned back to being big and was in too much pain to answer.
Panic started to overtake Frank as he shook the door harder and was preparing himself to ram the door down. Then he heard a small groan, the door cracked open, and Joe's wet, tousled head popped out. "Frank? Oh, you turned back too huh?" Joe's dripping face was a weird mixture of relieve, a bit of pain and his cheeks were slightly red like he was embarrassed.
"You okay Joe? I was worried you had drowned in the bathtub." Joe chuckled a bit then his cheek color rose more, and he flicked his eyes back and forth between Frank and the floor. Frank didn't get it until it hit him, and he grinned. Oh, he was so going to tease Joe. But one look at his brother's big blue eyes that reminded him so dang much of a puppy that he toned it down. "You need a towel, don't you?" Joe's eyes got wide, and he was going to ask how until he noticed that Frank was wrapped in one and he grinned instead.
"Uh, yeah. A towel would be nice. I'm kinda freezing in here." Frank laughed and headed to the hallway to go ask his mom for a towel for Joe, tell her they had changed back, and to go get changed himself. Before he got a chance his Aunt Gertrude walked into, the hall and stopped short at seeing her oldest nephew standing in the hall reverted back to his correct age and clad in only a bath towel.
"AHHHHH! Laura come here quick." Frank winced at his aunt's shrill shriek but smiled when he heard Joe's guffaws coming from the bathroom.
"Gertrude, land sakes what's wrong?" His mom's voice floated up the stairs as she came up them.
"Your son is grown and is only wearing a towel!" Frank burst out laughing and he heard Joe laugh too when their mom scrambled up the stairs and said.
"WHAT!"
THE END!
