"Smile."

Flash.

"Put your hands in your lap. On top of each other."

Flash.

"Now look to your right. Tilt your head back. More. More. Not that much!"

Riley corrected her posture and leaned her head down slightly. Flash.

It was Riley Andersen's prom night, and she was waiting for her date to arrive-and for her dad to finish taking pictures of her.

"Honey, what do you think of these?"

Her mother walked over to view the pictures her father had snapped with the digital camera.

"What if she doesn't like them? He'll want to take more and make us late!" Fear cried.

"Who cares?" Anger snarled. "He's got enough pictures of Riley to fill a library! As soon as Patrick shows up, we're outta here!"

"Calm down, both of you!" was Joy's response. "We might only get a special occasion like this once. Riley looks so pretty in her sparkly purple dress. We should be thankful she's being photographed!"

The doorbell rang. It was her date. Patrick Henderson.

He was wearing a tuxedo and carrying a box. A very big box. Too big for a corsage.

"You have a gift for me?" Riley gasped.

"Go ahead and open it," Patrick instructed, smiling.

Riley did. She did so slowly and methodically, like she always opened gifts.

"Step on it, Riley!" growled Anger. "We got a prom to attend."

Joy had to stop Anger from messing with the controls. When Riley got the box open, she was genuinely surprised.

Inside the box was a tiara, a blue cape, and a scepter.

"I hereby crown you queen for tonight," Patrick announced as he placed the tiara on her head. Riley put on the blue cape herself, and picked up the scepter.

"This is certainly an unexpected surprise," Riley's mother commented.

"I need to get some shots of this," Riley's father announced.

"Father, please!" Anger roared.

Riley's father took a shot of Riley from the front. A shot from the left side. A shot from the right side. A shot from behind. A close-up of Riley's face. And all those shots were of Riley standing up.

So Riley's father took a few of her sitting down.

And then he permitted them to leave.

"Have a nice time!" Riley's mother smiled.

"And bring my daughter home by midnight!" Riley's father warned.

"Bye, Mom and Dad!" Riley said as she walked out the door.

Midnight. That gave her four hours and 21 minutes to have the best night of her life.

This is the first part. But it is not the last. I eagerly await your reviews.
