Hello everyone!! So I originally made this story back when I was only twelve. I ended up losing the account that this was originally on along with the email that went with it, but I know that this is my story, you guys now know that this is my story, so yeah!!
Before I get started on the remake I would like to give some background. Originally this story was INCREDIBLY difficult to read. I realize this now, haha!
Originally this story was about a war that was happening in the Spirit World and how Haku needed to get Chihiro to join them and help fight. It will still be about this, but with much more description. I believe I made the story too fast paced with a extreme lack of explanation and descriptions. It will also lack the frequent p.o.v. changes!! they get tiring after a certain point!
I'm not exactly one for a slow burn (because I suck at writing things that way), but I will try and make it longer before they get together! I'm also going to make Chihiro closer to college age as opposed to high school age, simply for comfort.
Now comes the disclaimer!!I do not own Spirited Away or Studio Ghibli in any way, shape, or form. This is simply made for entertainment. Any original characters will be stated as such in the ending of the chapters, but otherwise, all rights go to Hayao Miyazaki and Studio Ghibli!!
• Alright, that should be everything!! Without further interruption, let the story begin •
Chapter One: Introduction
The war began shortly after the small human had left, and for that, Haku was grateful. If she had been here for the beginning of the war, Haku would have been determined to not fight and instead protect her at all costs. Luckily this needn't be the case.
The war had been going for a long time, but the time construct was strange here compared to the Human World, so he was unsure of how much time had passed there. For him it had been Fourteen years.
The War began because a spirit by the name of Yashi Tokayami had urged the negative spirits to band together with him. Yashi was a spirit of fire and hot coals. Within three years the beautiful Spirit World had become an almost completely desolate wasteland. The innocent spirits who resided there took to making hiding shelters. Those who chose to fight banded together in big temples and (in Haku's case) bath-houses. They turned the temples and bath-houses into fortresses to defend against Yashi and his group.
The group was large and they had taken to naming themselves Yashi's Revenge. Haku and the other allies had decided to call themselves the Resistance.
Currently there was a lull in the war. Yashi's Revenge had taken a big dive from the Resistance, but they were still plotting and hadn't surrendered. During this lull is where Haku had a brilliant idea.
If Haku were able to get Chihiro here, surely they could win. She could defeat and persuade anything. There was also the fact that Haku had promised to see her again and at the very least he should do that. With the idea fresh on his mind, Haku left his sleeping quarters to speak to Yubbaba, who had become the leader of their fortress.
Haku's quarters were only doors away from Yubbaba's in the case that they needed to speak urgently. He approached the door and rapped upon it quickly. The lanterns in the bath-house were dim and cast a pleasant glow about the hallway. 'If it weren't for the war, this would be peaceful,' Haku thought to himself. Yubbaba opened the door and ushered him in.
As they walked down the halls to her office, he began speaking. "Yubbaba, I believe that I may have an answer to this war. Even though we won this most recent fight, we might not in the future and we need to prepare ourselves." His voice echoed off of the quiet corridor and he heard Yubbaba hum in acknowledgement, urging him to continue.
"I believe that if we bring Chihiro here our chances of winning are dramatically increased. She can fight and win against anything! Hell, we could simply make her a map-maker for the scouts and that would be one more person on our side. A human, no less! They would never expect it." He spoke quickly, anticipating her cutting him off.
Yubbaba stopped in her tracks, a good five feet in front of him. She turned slowly, her eyebrows raised. "You think that bringing that human back here will increase our odds? Haku, if you want out of the fight to hunt down that stinking human, be my guest, but if she dies because you brought her here, you'll have no one to blame for that mistake, but yourself. Know that." She then turned and continued down the hallway.
Haku's eyebrows furrowed. "Would that be a yes?" He asked, confusion seeping into his voice.
Yubbaba simply sighed and shook her head. "Do what you want, boy. But be aware that this is your mistake you're making. She will also be ordered to remain by your side the entire time she is here."
Haku nodded and bowed deeply before turning away. "Thank you, Yubbaba. I promise you that this will be worthwhile." His voice echoed so confidently that Yubbaba smiled and hummed, "I certainly hope so Haku. I hope so."
Haku immediately left her quarters and returned to his own. He began gathering things that he might need in his trip. He was unsure of just how long he was going to be away, so he packed for a week. He included his hair brush and a few colorful ribbons to tie back his hair. He did a once over his room before determining that this was all he needed.
Haku waved his hand over the medium sized bag, and it turned into a small pouch that fit easily in his pants pocket. He did a protection charm on his room to ensure that no one but himself and Chihiro could enter, then he promptly left.
On his way to the boiler room, to say his goodbyes to Kamaji, Haku ran into Rin. Quite literally in fact. They bumped into each other and she rolled her eyes. "Watch where you're going Haku!" And then she paused, "Wait! Where are you going?"
"I'm going to bring back Chihiro to help fight." His voice called back as he continued on his way to the boiler room. Rin gasped and caught up with him. Why are you trying to bring her here? Don't you remember that there is an actual war happening right now, you dope!"
Haku nodded his head. "I know that there is a war happening right now, but if there is anyone who can help it would be her!" Haku was determined, it was incredibly clear.
Rin just smiled faintly and shook her head. "Alright. Do what you can to bring her here, alright? And keep the girl safe. Otherwise you'll be dealing with me, got it?" Haku swiftly nodded his head and continued to make his way to the boiler room.
Haku crouched down and entered the boiler room where he found Kamaji dosing off. He gently woke the spider spirit and he woke with a start. "Whaa-?" he exclaimed, sitting up quickly and waving his tea kettle around wildly.
"Kamaji! Kamaji! Calm down! It's just me!" Haku said, stepping out of injury range. Kamaji paused and put his glasses on.
"Oh, Haku, it's you! What's going on boy?" Kamaji asked before taking a long drink from his tea kettle.
"I'm going to bring someone to help us win the war. I should be back in around a week." He said with a small smile. After they exchanged goodbyes Haku was making his way out of the Bath-house.
When he left the bath-house he was greeted with the poor shape of the world around him. The once beautiful and clear sky had become permanently dark and smokey. They beautiful trees and flowers were wilted beyond repair. Haku sighed. He hated the sight of his world now. Something that once was so beautiful became a cesspool of darkness and destruction.
Haku tried to make himself as small as possible as he made his way to the gate. This was a war zone now and if he was spotted they would all come after him.
Eventually. he made it there and he passed through the gate with ease. The light at the end of the tunnel greeted him and for once he felt as though he could finally breathe. He took a deep breath, inhaling the clean air.
'Alright,' Haku thought to himself, 'Now I just have to find her...'
