"It looks like it landed over here! I can see smoke and everything!"
"Awesome! I can't believe we're gonna be the first to see this meteor!"
"There's the crater, now let's have a look at this... this..."
"What?"
"This isn't a meteor, Vine. It's a Pokemon."
"So just a Minior then? That's lame. I guess we should head back to-"
"It's not a Minior either. I think it's a Scorbunny."
"What?! You can't be serious."
"I am. Come see for yourself."
"Whoa. Do you think it's still alive, Skid?"
"That's what I'm about to find out."
Ugh, my head.
"Hey, are you okay? Or alive?"
I keep hearing voices.
"Maybe you should poke it, Skid!"
"Sure."
Ouch! What was that?
"Did you see that? It reacted! It has to still be alive!"
I can hear a bit more clearly now. Do these people think I'm dead? I'll try and get up to prove I'm not. Maybe they can help me with this headache.
"Whoa! Definitely still alive. Dude, are you okay? It looks like you fell from the sky."
What!?
My eyes shot open. In front of me, I saw two creatures that seemed familiar, but not much else.
"You look fine, but I want to hear it from you. You are okay, right?" said the one closest to me, a black fox-like thing with red spots on its face and head.
"Oof, I think I'm okay. My head is pounding, though. Where am I? And who are you guys?"
"I'm Vine," said the other creature, a green snakey thing with stubby arms and legs.
"I'm a Snivy. That Zorua there in front of you is Skid."
Snivy? Zorua? Those words sound familiar. Aren't they Pokemon? I wondered.
Before I could confirm that with them, Skid spoke once more.
"That fall looked brutal. I mean, we thought you were a meteor! I can't imagine how you could've gotten up there in the first place. Are you sure you're okay?"
I was about to confirm that I was still okay when I realized something.
"Wait. I... don't have any memories? I can't remember anything! All that's left is... my name."
"That's rough," said Vine. "If your name is all you can remember, than what is it?"
"Xylus," I replied.
"Xylus? That's not a very fitting name for a Scorbunny," said Skid. "Are you sure that's your name?"
"Wh- What?!" I stammered. I looked over my body. My arms were stubbier and lacking thumbs. My feet were massive. And I could actually see my own ears! "I- I am a Scorbunny! I'm a Pokemon!"
"Why is that a surprise?" asked Vine. "Were you not always a Scorbunny or something?"
"Well, no. The only other thing I can remember is being a human."
Skid and Vine stared at me as if I'd sprouted another head.
"How stupid do you think we are?!" shouted Vine. "There have never been any humans here, let alone humans that have turned into Pokemon!"
I stumbled, surprised by the sudden hostility. "What reason do I have to lie to you?"
Skid stepped closer to me, an apologetic look on his face. "Sorry about him. Lots of bad Pokemon have been cropping up lately, and we don't know who to trust anymore. It is a bit unbelievable, though. How could you possibly have been a human that turned into a Pokemon?"
"The same could be said for how I fell from the sky," I retorted. "There seems to be a lot about me that needs explanation, but my head hurts too much to even begin trying to figure that out. Do you guys happen to have a place I could rest?"
"Yeah." Vine looked embarrassed after his outburst. "We've got a place that's a few minutes walk from here. You can stay as long as you like."
That's certainly a change of pace from the yelling, I thought. "Thanks. I'll definitely take you up on that."
"Let's go then," said Skid. "I don't want you on your feet for longer than necessary."
I don't know why, but I'm excited! This could be the start of some great adventure! Or not, I could just be hoping for nothing. Whatever. I just need rest.
