Alpha: Next Generation

Prelude

Jacob Black

When Odessa Clearview told me that one day my twin kids would be the only hope for mankind, that they were the twins that were mentioned in an ancient prophecy foretold by Neeve Clearview and her daughter Martha Young, I didn't know if I believe it or not. All I knew was that I wanted them to live a long and happy life.

So when she told me that they were going to battle for the alpha position and that the only way to stop them from killing each other was to have another kid, I decided that there could be worse ways to solve a problem so when Isaac was born I was relieved. Back then I had no idea the old lady was playing me for a fool and that her only intention was making sure I had more kids so she could ensure the future of her people.

She also failed to tell me that Isaac's death would cause his brothers to start one of the most brutal wars the supernatural world had ever seen. Apparently, she could've never guessed because the prophecy wasn't complete and by the time Isaac decided to take action against the Romanian Coven, Odessa was still trying to figure out how to learn the whole thing.

She was too late though. By the time she managed to summon Neeve's spirit into Dana's body, Harrison and William were already provoking the chaos amongst the vampire community. A lot of things changed that day and a lot of things changed in the following years. Alliances were made and broken, battles were won and lost, people were born and died.

And at that moment, while we were watching that beautiful baby girl on that pink wooden crib, I wondered if we had made the right decision almost ten years ago.

"We could've stopped the war, Leah," I whispered.

"But we didn't." My wife replied quietly watching our granddaughter sleeping. "She's beautiful, isn't she?"

"Yes, she is."

"I miss our babies, Jacob."

"I know. I miss them too. But we have thirteen grandchildren to watch over, remember?"

"We live miles away from them, and our children rarely visit." She said that out loud knowing that downstairs all of our children would hear it.

Leah and I couldn't have more children. Physically we still could but it wouldn't be wise since our youngest child was now almost twenty years old. Besides now it was up to them to make sure the Black family would prevail.

They were doing a great job so far. Although I would have been fine with only three or four grandchildren. Thirteen was a bit too much and I had the impression that this little girl wouldn't be the last.

"Fuck my life! Harry never said you'd be here!" We heard JJ's voice behind us.

"I'm happy to see you too, son." I turned around. JJ was almost a copy of myself. He still hadn't phased but it would happen soon.

"Do you care to tell us why did we have to learn about this baby through a phone call from your sister?" Leah inquired. JJ didn't even flinch at her tone of voice. Any of our other children would have at least trembled a little.

"I was kind of busy." Our son said and had the audacity to smile.

"Things like this don't happen in our family, JJ. Do you understand? We're a family, we communicate, we... help each other. Always!"

"Chill out mom. Everything's fine. Reggie and I are fine. We don't need any help."

"Then where is Reggie right now?"

"Around." JJ shrugged. "You know her... she's a free spirit like her mother."

"Sarah told us that Meadow was born last month. You never told us that Reggie was pregnant in the first place which means you hid this from us for almost a year!"

"And what's the problem, mom? You're not around, are you? You left when I was seventeen! Look, I appreciate your concern and your presence here today to see my daughter but let's face it, I've been doing great without you."

Leah inhaled deeply. She glared at our youngest son and then she left the room.

"You better apologize to your mother before we leave," I told JJ. "And I'm not kidding."

Then I hugged him and I knew he wanted to cry but his pride wouldn't let him.

"Congratulations, son. You're a dad now. Make sure you never let her down. Now let's go to the beach, there's a bonfire waiting for us."

Note: I know you have a lot of questions but everything will be answered throughout the story. Just have patience.

Take care,
