Something Greater

Disclaimer: As much as I'd like to, I don't own DC.

Prologue

A new Earth

"Date, Gideon." A boy's voice rung out.

"23rd June, 2040." The glowing blue holographic head spoke.

"Could have done without the year, G." he spoke again, groggily waking up, putting on his uniform at an unnatural rate. Inheriting super speed isn't a bad thing at all, he always thought. He quickly combed his brown hair, and his deep blue eyes shone as he noticed the golden strands scattered across the brown stretch of his hair in the mirror, as usual. He quite liked his hair, being brown like his father's, but having the blonde strands like his mother's. Presently, he picked up his cup of coffee. Cold, he thought. But it didn't matter for him. It was second nature by now. He focused, and twin white beams shot out of his eyes, with just enough power to heat the coffee back up without breaking the cup. He took another sip.

"Perfect." He sighed. "Gideon, lock up. I'm off." He yelled out to his small but cozy house, putting on his glasses. The AI responded, "Yes, Master Allen."

"Again with the master stuff? I'll have to reprogram you. Damned updates resetting that stuff." He muttered to himself.

.

.

'Master Allen' approached the great white building. "National City University. A few more days and I'm out." He smirked to himself, when he heard a voice call out to him.

"Hey Kent!" he turned to see his friends a little ways off.

A girl with medium dark skin and long black hair in a ponytail rushed over, he brown eyes now on him. "Irea West to Kent Allen. Are we awake yet?" Irea said, chuckling. "Dude you didn't even pick up my call five minutes ago. How much more are you going to abuse… the legs?" she said, clearly meaning his super speed.

"How about we don't talk about that here?" Kent said.

"Can we get to class already? I wanna get my exams over with. After this week, it's job hunt time for us!" another boy with clean cut, black hair spoke from beside them, his deep black eyes barely open, a sign of sleepiness.

"Josh, my friend. You are way too stiff. Come on." Irea said, putting an arm around Josh's shoulders.

The three friends went inside the university, ready for their final exams.

"So when's the results coming out again?" Kent spoke into his earpiece, on call.

"Day after tomorrow. That exam was heck-tic! Although I'm pretty sure you'll ace it." Irea spoke from the other side of the call.

"Me? The Great Josh Ramone will be top scorer, just you watch. He isn't Uncle Cisco's son for nothing." Kent said, laughing.

"Kent… you could come live at the big house." Irea said softly. "You know we'd love to have you."

Kent sighed. A part of him did want to go. To the place where everyone else lived. Uncle Cisco, Aunt Cynthia, Aunt Caitlin, Irea and Josh. Even Aunt Caitlin's adoptive son, Thomas. But he couldn't. He couldn't go to the house where there are reminders everywhere of what he lost at a very young age.

"Kent?" Irea's voice came again.

"Yeah I'm here. Thanks, but… I can't." Kent answered solemnly.

"I understand. But just know, it's still there. Especially today…" She said comfortingly.

"Thanks, Irea." He said. "I'll talk to you later." He said, hanging up. He sighed. The speakers were everywhere, announcing one thing. What today was.

"Today marks the Tenth Anniversary of the death of Supergirl and the Flash. The world remembers and mourns the deaths and heroic sacrifices of the two greatest heroes of all time…"

Kent sped away, straight the edge of National. The hills were always quiet. No speakers, no reminder of the Worldwide Doomsday that was the death anniversary if his parents. He was twelve when he saw them make the ultimate sacrifice.

Ten years ago, the planet was attacked by probably the most powerful enemy it had ever faced. The ruler of Apokolips, Darkseid. The entirety of the Justice League had stood up and fought this enemy in a war that lasted for days. Finally, when things were at their peak, the Flash and Supergirl had broken through the parademon ranks and were facing Darkseid. In a hard, bloody battle, they'd defeated Darkseid, killed him, but had also died themselves. Vibe and Frost had to stay behind to watch the children. Others were too injured to continue. The Green Arrow had lost an arm, so he couldn't even hold a bow, until STAR labs came out with it's new instinct controlled prosthetic technology, making it possible to have a fully autonomous arm that functioned like normal, without wires or buttons. Superman had been injected with liquid Kryptonite, permanently depowering him, while Jesse had her spine broke. She was confined to a hospital bed, with regular visits arranged for family. Irea and Uncle Wally visited her regularly, and sometimes he went with them. Presently, Uncle Wally and Aunt Cynthia were away on a mission. Irea stayed strong though, when it came to her mom. Of course, she was much more present minded than him, focusing on the now. But every now and then, he caught her sobbing quietly. Which was only natural. They were kids, whose parents were superheroes, and had to go through so much at such young ages, and not only that, but having to keep their secret superhero identities secret. They were unable to say anything much, just that their parents died in the midst of the Darkseid War. He always felt frustrated at this. He wanted to scream from the rooftops. Scream how proud he is of his parents, how they saved the entire world from total damnation. But he couldn't. Instead he was another pity kid from the Darkseid War.

Kent looked up into the sky as he thought of all this. What was he doing? With his life? He had no purpose in sight, he couldn't even decide on what job or career he wanted. "Mom. Dad. What do I do?" he said, to the air.

However, his thoughts were interrupted by the pangs of hunger suddenly coming up in his stomach, and so he sped back home.

He didn't like to spend too much of his allowance from his Aunt Caitlin, so he rarely splurged on fast food like his parents did. Instead, he resorted to the super high calorie bars made by Aunt Caitlin. Each of them would be enough for a small meal, and for the main meals, he'd have one of those and some other food. He did, however, treat himself to pizzas or burgers every Saturday, sometimes even other splurge dishes. He smiled a little as he sat down on his bed, looking out the window right over it, eating the calorie bar, before diverting his gaze down to the smooth bracelet on his left hand. It was a Kryptonian bracelet, give to him by his mother on July 9th, 2029. His eleventh birthday. That was the last birthday he shared with his parents. It was a Saturday, hence the Saturday splurge rule.

Presently, his super senses picked up someone screaming in the street. He sighed. Crime wasn't as high as it used to be, but it was still there. He took off his glasses, also given to him by his mother, and placed on his nightstand, carefully. They were his mother's glasses, and he'd be damned if anything happened to them. Then he got off the bed and pulled out a suitcase from under, and opened it.

Inside was a plain deep crimson body suit that he'd made himself. It was made of silica-based sand quartz fabric, very similar to what his father's old suit had. No emblems, no gizmos, nothing marking it as special. Just something to cover up with, to conceal his identity. The cowl didn't even have any openings. Just a mesh to breathe through. He didn't need eye holes since he had x-ray vision. He sped out, white lightning trailing behind him.

Of course it's a petty mugger, he thought, before knocking him out with as much ease as it took, and vanished before the victim could even see what was going on. He went around the city, stopping crime all around. No one knew about this, the suit, the crime fighting, any of it. He didn't want to tell them. He just went around and silently did his part in helping people. He knew he had to. He had continue his parents' work. Evil never sleeps, it merely waits.

.

.

Two days later, as Irea had said, their results came out. Irea and Kent were towards the top, and sure enough, Josh came out at the very first spot.

"Congratulations, Josh!" Irea yelled as Kent and Irea both caught him and hugged him tight.

"Yeah man. Although it was expected. You're nothing short of a genius." Kent said, patting Josh's back.

"Thanks guys." Josh nervously said.

"Let's get to the Big Belly Burger. We deserve a feast!" Irea yelled out.

"It is Saturday." Kent shrugged, adjusting his glasses. "Let's do it."

The Big Belly Burger was still almost the exact same. Minor changes and new age technology were bound to be added, but for the most part, it was the same Big Belly Burger that his parents came to, Kent thought. Not only did he have pictures, he remembered. He remembered things from way before an average human starts remembering. But he never let anyone know how far back he remembers.

Let me stay mysterious, it's more fun, is what he'd say.

"BBB is to us and our parents what Ichiraku is to Naruto." Josh suddenly said.

"Truer words have never been spoken, my man." Kent said, clearly excited.

"Again with your anime?" Irea said, slightly annoyed.

"She doesn't know." Kent said to Josh, feigning ignorance towards Irea, pushing his glasses up with his forefinger.

"You ignore me and I'll throw lightning at you." Irea suddenly said menacingly.

"I'd like to see you catch me." Kent said, defiant himself.

"I'm a speedster too, don't forget." Irea said, starting to smirk.

"Well, I'm a Kryptonian speedster, which means I could keep up with you AND break your legs." Kent smirked.

"Ding ding ding! Victor is Kent. Can we eat now?" Josh said.

"I'll make you eat those words, just you wait." Irea said.

"I won't hold my breath." Kent smirked, looking through the menu. "Two triple triples for me."

"Dude I forgot you save like crazy. I can't get any more than one double cheese." Josh sighed.

"I'm even lower." Irea huffed.

"Relax. I can give you a little bit. But you'll owe me one." Kent said, laughing.

"Yeah yeah food first." Irea quickly said.

"Too true." Kent smirked.

.

.

After stuffing their bellies with food, Kent more than others, Irea and Josh said their goodbyes to Kent and went home, Kent heading to his own place. He sped home, plopped onto the couch, turning on the TV. Old cartoons, movies, he was bored out of his mind. He switched it off. Suddenly, there was a flash of light, and a portal of blue swirling energy had opened up. Kent sighed, and Josh stepped out of it.

"What is so important that you couldn't come normally and knock on the door?" Kent asked, annoyed.

"They want to talk to you." Josh said. "It's urgent, they said. And also, they said, 'Bring the suit'." Josh air quoted. Kent threw his arms into the air.

"Oh Goddamn it."

Prologue to my very own Earth, completely new. Of course, there's influences, but for the most part, I tried to do new things. Kara chose Kent to honor Clark, obviously, at least that's what I decided. Irea is Wally's daughter from the comics too, so I kept that one here, and her mother is Jesse. I loved those two back in s3. Finally, Josh Ramone, named after Breacher. Remember that episode?

That's that, I think I've established most of the background in the story. Any questions?

If you do have any, let me know in a review. If you don't, review anyway to let me know what you think about this new world. And, FYI, this Earth is where the crossovers start from. Just saying. Peace!

Edit: I just read Millma Verse's Crisis first chapter, and saw that Barry and Kara's son's name was Kent there too. I just wish to clarify, that I did not copy them, and had no intention of it either. I just thought of it a few weeks ago, and wrote this.
