Eve can feel her heartbeat, even with Villanelle's back pressed against her front. It beats slow and soft, like it's singing her a song in her dreams. Beating like a beacon, a lighthouse leading her home. So much more different then the hummingbird heartbeat she feels when she is awake.

She brushes the blonde hair aside and kisses the back of her neck gently and that faint scent that is simply just Villanelle engulfs her. She stays like that for a moment and then reluctantly slips from her side leaving the bed to become cold.

Eve makes pancakes, these are probably the best pancakes she's ever made, she thinks. She tops them with whipped cream and strawberries. And as soon as they're presentable Villanelle comes tired from their bedroom, "Eve, you weren't there when I woke up. I was sad."

"Well, I wanted to make you breakfast in bed but you've left the bed. So you'll just have to eat them right here," Eve smiles as she places the plate in front of the sleepy blonde and kisses her on the head.

Villanelle perks right up and smiles at the pancakes and the kiss as she grabs the almost forgotten fork from Eve's grasp.

"Wow, Eve, what's the special occasion?"

Eve looks at her slightly surprised, "You really don't know?"

"I really don't. But whatever it is I'm enjoying it, thank you Eve!"

Eve sips her coffee and smiles at how carefree and happy Villanelle looks right now. Eve has tried to make their new life as carefree and happy as she could for Villanelle but today, she wants today to be extra special for her.

"Honey?"

"Yes, Eve?"

"When you're done, get dressed, we have a special date today."

Villanelle swallows her bite leaving whipped cream at the corner of her mouth, "Eve, aren't you going to eat with me? And why a date, I didn't know we had a date?"

Eve smirks and wipes the whipped cream from her mouth with her thumb and licks it from there, "I already ate. Before. Before I decided to make you breakfast. I'm sorry, but I'm drinking my coffee and watching you enjoy your breakfast."

"Yeah, you creeper, you like watching me."

"Vil, you're the pot calling the kettle black."

Villanelle shoves another bite into her mouth, "We're perfect for each other."

Eve laughs and shakes her head, "I know. Well, you enjoy the rest of that while I go get dressed. And just wear something casual today, it's not that extravagant of a date."

"Whatever you say, boss," Villanelle mocks a salute at her as she finishes the perfect pancakes that Eve made for her.

Unbeknownst to Villanelle, Eve has paused in the doorway behind her and turned to peak a glance back at her. She smiles to herself as she sees how giddy Villanelle is dancing in her chair like when a child is happy they're eating something real good.

She's making me wish I was eating those pancakes.

When Villanelle has finished her pancakes and gotten dressed she finds Eve standing in her home office staring out the window, looking at nothing in particular. Villanelle takes the time to smile and stare at her, being the quiet ex-assassin that she was of course Eve didn't hear her approach.

But she could feel her, she always feels her, they're connected. How could she not feel her?

Villanelle wraps her arms around her waist and rests her chin on her shoulder, "Ready?"

"Yeah, I was just thinking," Eve turns and cups Villanelle's face and studies it.

"About?"

"You. It's always you."

Villanelle doesn't always get such a straight answer from Eve about what's on her mind so it leaves her shocked. And really really happy but Eve's just seeing the shock at this point.

Eve pulls her down to meet her lips and just kisses her and usually Eve makes Villanelle work for it but today she wants to show her how much she really loves her.

She leaves Villanelle speechless.

"Come on, we've got plans," Eve grabs her hand and drags her from the house.

When Eve opens the door for Villanelle to get in, the blonde gives her a strange look because to her Eve is acting very weird.

"Eve, what are you doing?"

"What, I'm just opening the door for you? I'm just being nice, you know chivalrous."

"Yeah, you're being weird," Villanelle just stares at her as she gets into the car, "Do you want to put my seatbelt on too?"

"Jackass," Eve just slams the door.

Eve isn't going to be deterred by Villanelle's snarky attitude, she ignores Villanelle's pleas to know where they're going and just smiles the whole way to their destination.

When they pull up to the aquarium Villanelle looks at the building and back to Eve, "Really?"

"Villanelle, can you stop ruining the mood, just go with the flow."

"Whatever you say, Eve."

This time Eve doesn't open the door for Villanelle and leaves her sitting in the car until Villanelle gets out herself.

"Eve, I thought you were going to open my door for me?"

"Yeah, well, you said I was being weird, I figured you'd like to go back to opening your own door. You're not going to ruin this whole date are you? Cuz we can go home right now!"

Villanelle wraps her in a hug, "I'm sorry, Eve, I'll be good."

That seems to put Eve in a good mood because she's smiling and pulling Villanelle along, "Good, now come on!"

Villanelle actually blushes at how unbelievably cute Eve is today and lets herself be tugged away.

They wander along and look at all the different types of sea life, they walk through the long hall surrounded by glass and sea creatures. Villanelle marvels at it all and giggles at the clownfish and comments how they're just like from when they watched Finding Nemo. Because that's who they are now, people who watch movies together.

Villanelle especially loves the seahorses after she finds out that they mate for life and like to dance with each other.

"Do you remember our first dance, Eve?"

Eve just laughs, "Like our metaphorical dance or our dance dance?"

"Eve, don't tell me you forgot our first dance dance?"

Eve grasps her hand and pulls her close, "How could I forget you in that ridiculous suit?"

Villanelle smiles into the kiss she places on Eve's forehead, "You love my unique fashion sense."

"You know what I love even more is when you're not wearing your unique fashion sense."

"Eve, are you saying what I think you're saying? We're in public."

"That's never stopped us before," Eve smirks and pulls away leaving Villanelle flustered.

They finally grab lunch and Eve enjoys the fact that Villanelle is so carefree that Eve thinks her plan has been a success but the day isn't over yet. After lunch they go see penguins and Villanelle has to fight the urge to set them all free. Eve did work so hard to make her day so nice, it'd be mean of her to ruin the mood by liberating penguins.

They finish the day off by going to the gift shop and Villanelle smiling holds up matching seahorse keychains, "Eve, we have to get these!"

Eve would never do this for anyone else but Villanelle is too cute and excited about the keychains she can't help but humor her. And apparently they do end up liberating one penguin from the stuffed animal section of the giftshop.

After the aquarium they do the old fashioned dinner and movie, they don't quite often go to movie theaters and usually opt for movies at home. But Eve wanted to make the day as cliche as possible for a Valentines Day.

And again Villanelle notices there's so many couples there tonight, not that she's never seen couples on dates at movie theaters but it just seems like there's way more than she's used to.

What is with all these couples today?

Villanelle won't admit that she cries during the ending of the movie and Eve holding her hand is simply because Eve is the one crying not her. They're both crying.

By the time they get out of the movie it's nighttime, they go for a walk in the park and sit on swings and stare at stars. Yeah, it's been a pretty cheesy Valentine's Day.

Eve stands from her swing and finds herself nestled in between Villanelle's legs, planting another kiss on her.

"Eve?"

"Hmm?"

"Not that I'm complaining but what was today all about?"

"You mean you don't know what today is?"

Villanelle thinks for a minute before answering, "Friday?"

Eve just laughs, "It's Valentine's Day you dork!"

"Valentine's Day?" Villanelle lets it sink in for a minute, "I don't think I've ever celebrated Valentine's Day….Eve! Why didn't you tell me? I didn't get you anything, I didn't plan anything for you."

Villanelle looks sad and Eve lifts her chin, "Hey, I don't need you to do anything for me, I wanted to make today special for you. Just seeing you happy made me happy."

"Oh, wow, Eve that's really cheesy!"

Eve smacks her on the back of the head and before Villanelle can grumble Eve is kissing her again, "You idiot, I just wanted you to experience Valentine's Day for once. I just wanted you to know how much…."

"How much, what, Eve? How much you love me? I know how much you do, everyday I see it," as she points to the scar on her stomach.

Eve hides her face in Villanelle's neck in embarrassment, this talk of feelings is making her blush, "Oh my god can you not be weird for one minute?"

Villanelle bites her lip and smiles, "So now I'm the weird one? Eve, I thought we already established this fact a long time ago."

They settled into the silence that fell between them until Eve shivered and they decided it was time to head home.

After they got home Villanelle laughed to herself and Eve stared at her like she should be worried, "What's so funny?"

"I was just wondering, where's my red roses and chocolates, Eve? Isn't that what is always advertised for these things?"

Eve paused as she put the key in the front door to unlock it, "Hey, you didn't even know it was Valentine's Day like an hour ago."

As Eve unlocked the door and pushed it open she paused at Villanelle's words, "Oh my god, Eve, don't tell me you got me red roses and chocolates?"

Eve blushed, "I have no idea what you're talking about."

Shit. The kitchen.

"Eve, you didn't."

They stared each other down for a minute before Eve made a break for the kitchen, Villanelle hot on her heels. But before Eve could make a grab for the roses and chocolate on the counter Villanelle was snatching them up.

"It's not what you think, they're for me!"

Villanelle laughed as she made for the card in the roses, "Oh, Eve, you don't need to hide the fact that you got me roses and chocolates."

Eve stomped out of the kitchen in embarrassment as Villanelle read the card, all it said was, "Sorry, baby. X"

By the time Villanelle found Eve she was soaking in the bathtub, Villanelle decided to join her.

"Eeevvvve?"

"Hey, don't get in here jerk. You lost your chance after you embarrassed me in the kitchen."

Villanelle got in the tub with her regardless of the older woman's warning, "Eve, it's not the first time I've embarrassed you in a kitchen before, it's my favorite place to do it."

Eve let her rest between her legs and they both enjoyed the quiet calm between them, all the things they didn't need to say because they knew and they didn't need words.

"Eve?"

"Hmm?"

"I love you. I'm sorry I didn't get anything for you today. But I really did enjoy today. I meant what I said about feeling loved by you everyday but I felt it especially today. Thanks, Eve."

Eve smiled and leaned in to brush her lips against Villanelle's ear, "I love you, too."

"Hey, Eve?"

"Hmm, I think it's time for the best part of Valentine's Day."

Eve had to think about it for a minute and then was like, "Oh, oh!"

"Don't tell me you put rose petals on the bed too, Eve."

"Fuck you, Villanelle!"

"Fuck me yourself, Eve!"

And she did.

It was definitely the best Valentine's Day either of them had, Eve even took a picture of Villanelle sleeping with her stuffed penguin to keep a memento of the day because the bite marks between her legs were definitely going to fade but a picture of Villanelle cuddling with a stuffed penguin is forever.
