Hello and welcome to my first Shadamy fanfic. I'm very excited to be updating chapters throughout this year!

I've been wanting to write this story after years of drafting designs and concepts for one of my favorite pairings. The cover image was drawn and designed by me. If you have any comments or reviews, please don't be shy to do so!

- Lavender Phantom

A Rose for Maria

Chapter 1: Hidden in Vanilla's Garden

Amongst the shadows of the garden lies a single red rose.

"Mama, I'm scared to go in the garden…"

Cream, a youthful rabbit with the gentle grace of a dandelion, refused to leave her mother's side. She clung to the threads of Vanilla's long violet dress and looked up at her mother for safety. Attempting to soothe her daughter, Vanilla softly spoke,

"But there's nothing in the garden to be scared of, baby. Did you see something?"

"I promise you, Mama! I saw somebody running around in the ol' garden patch. They didn't speak to me, but I could feel somebody was there!"

Vanilla's daughter swiftly swiped her left hand and dragged her into their family garden. However, there was nothing to be seen but a few tiny rabbit footsteps in the sweet grass. Her instincts, however, remained perked and refused to simply shrug off her daughter's intuition.

"Don't worry about the garden, sweet Cream. Let's go inside now. I've prepared a wonderful lunch for you and Mr. Cheese" whispered Vanilla to her daughter, who longed to search the garden for a hint of the mystery. Cream knew better than to refuse an offer for lunch time with Mama. The pair walked back to their humble abode with Mr. Cheese waiting for his family at the front door. Vanilla took a final glance behind her as her eyes tried to focus on any sudden movements her daughter may have noticed. But alas, only a faint shadow of the trees blowing against the wind could be seen to her eyes. Little did she know that what Cream saw earlier was none other than Shadow the Hedgehog hurrying to the old garden.
