It was way after midnight and Booth was now checking his watch every five minutes. Yes, he did tell Sweets that Bones was with federal prosecutor and coroner, but she was also with Angela who used to be a wild free-spirited party girl before Hodgins made an honest woman out of her and a light-headed, adventurous and a little unstable Daisy. If he was completely honest with himself the fact that Bones was with Caroline and Cam wasn't as comforting as he tried to persuade Sweets. Caroline has always been a piece of work in both good and bad way and Cam, well they've known each other for almost twenty years and Booth knew exactly how wild his friend could get.
Christine was with Max, so Booth didn't have anything better to do but watch some TV in order to distract himself, he knew that Bones could take of herself, she travelled half of the world for God's sake! But he was still worried, she did have a tendency to get into trouble more than any regular human being, but, after all, Bones was anything but regular. Around two in the morning, he heard his phone ringing, it was unknown number and Booth felt a wave of fear, what if something happened? What if some lunatic attacked them? What if…He stopped himself from getting crazy, for all he knew it could be FBI related. He picked up the phone and heard unfamiliar male voice.
'Special agent Seeley Booth?'
'Yes.'
'My name is officer Shelton and I am here with what I understand your wife, Dr Temperance Brennan and her friends…'
Before Booth could react, he heard a familiar, albeit very drunk voice yelling in the distance.
'I neeeeed to talk to my husband! I am the most..yek…famous anthropologist and I am a writer and yekh….'
'Shhh, Sweetie, we need to keep it down,' Booth heard a very drunk and loud voice of Angela. He just put a palm to his face and had a pretty good idea of what the rest of his night will be like.
'Officer, could you tell me what station they are at? I'll be there.'
'Sure.'
Booth was now driving as fast as the speed limit allowed him, he called in a favor from the local sheriff and he promised to let the merry women go as long as Booth is there to pick them up and make sure they are all going home and will never appear nowhere next the former country pub. Of course, Angela just had to choose the place that was as far as possible. And now Booth, very annoyed and sleep deprived had to pick up his wasted wife and her girlfriends!
As soon as he arrived to the station his annoyance disappeared and he was fighting really hard an urge to laugh his ass of. The picture in front of him was truly hilarious. The sheriff made a mistake and let them wait for Booth outside and right now Bones was clearly trying to steal sheriff's motorcycle while he was yelling at her, Daisy and Cam was holding him, Caroline was just yelling at everybody and Angela was clearly about to join Brennan on the said motorcycle.
After all the apologies, another shit ton of favors, calling Hodgins to pick up Angela, making sure that the cabs for Cam, Caroline and Daisy had their addresses and were paid for, Booth finally took his precious wife back to his car. He was trying to be serious, tried to tell her that it was irresponsible, but she was simply adorable and way too wasted for him to get mad. She was babbling something all the way home and Booth found that it was easier just to nod.
Finally, they arrived to their house, Booth was pretty sure it was already very early morning. All of them were going to have a fun day tomorrow, especially girls. He was half-carrying, half-dragging Bones to the house, one of her shoes was missing and the hat she originally had, good thing he managed to find her purse.
'Although, I did not start the fight, I felt obligated to finish it. You would have been,' Bones giggled, 'very proud of me.'
'I would have. Okay, come on. Let's just try to get inside, all right?' they were in the house and Booth lost his grip just for a second, naturally Brennan had to knock of the lamp. 'Oh! I got it.'
'God, did I do that?'
'Okay, just sit down, have a seat,' he was on a mission to get her to bed, but he wasn't sure how to organize it.
'Okay,' giggled Bones again.
'Okay, you know how many favors I had to call in so you guys wouldn't get arrested?'
'Yes,' said Bones confidently and fell on the floor, she was now crawling and Booth felt another urge to break into laughter, she was ridiculous.
'Whoa!'
'One, you called the sheriff, and he let us go,' she was slowly making it to the couch, well good enough. 'This is really nice.'
'It's nice, right?'
'Yeah,' laughed Bones.
'But not before you tried to steal his motorcycle,' Booth reminded her, he decided to give it another try and get her to bed. 'Come on up. There you go.'
'I thought that was Moose's motorcycle! She tried to punch Cam!'
'Moose. Okay,' sometimes it was just easier to go with the flow. 'Now, why don't we just get you upstairs? Come on. Come on.'
'No!' protested Bones and was now all over the couch, well it looked like his wife will be spending the night here. 'No, it's too far. This is good, this is great.'
'All right, listen, you know what? Just relax. I'm gonna go get you a cold towel, all right?' Booth rushed to the kitchen and got what he was looking for.
'Oh, cushion's so soft. I like this cushion. Hey, do you know what it's called when you drink a shot off of a stranger's body?'
'Uh, I don't know. Body shots?'
'How did you know that?' this was his Bones all over. Drunk Bones was even funnier than regular Bones.
'Oh! Lucky guess. Okay, here, try this here,' he gently put a towel to her forehead and her face relaxed momentarily.
'Ah... Oh. Oh, that feels, nice.'
'Oh, it's nice, huh? Did you have fun, or was it all about the fighting?'
'We danced on a bar.'
'Wow.'
'In a line. Does that sound like fun?'
'Sounds like a blast.'
'I told Angela that it was your idea that I should go,' her voice was soft now, Booth felt an unpleasant pinch upon hearing about Angela, after all the Pleant mess they still haven't made up and to be honest, Booth wasn't sure he could just accept what Angela was suspecting him about, he thought of her as a friend, but apparently, she never felt the same way. 'She feels bad that she hated you. And I told her that you're the best person ever...' Bones grabbed his face and he was definitely about to laugh now.
'Oh!'
'...even though that can't be confirmed empirically. But I don't give a crap. And then I told her some of the things that we did in the bathtub last week and... '
'No, no, no, no,' Booth was now feeling hot. Great, how was he supposed to look Angela in the face now that she knew what they were doing? 'You didn't say about the bath tub, did you?'
'Do you want to do some of that right now?' as much as he loved sex with Bones, this was the worst seduction attempt ever.
'If we did that, you would drown, okay? Now let's just get some sleep, all right?'
'But I'm not tired,' said Bones falling asleep. Wow, thank God it went OK.
'Okay. Shh.
'I'm not tired.'
'Okay,' of course she wasn't.
'I love you, Booth.'
'I love you, too, Bones. All right,' girls indeed had fun.
