It was a warm, summer, Friday morning. The sun was just beginning to rise in Porglass Town. Dylan was half asleep in his bed. His older brother figure, Connor, was trying to wake him up.

"Hey…" Dylan stirred to the opposite side of the bed. "Hey! Get out of bed! I don't care if you're tired. I don't care if it's cold. Get out of bed, put those feet on the ground.."

But Dylan was too tired and tried drowning Connor's wake-up call. "Get out of bed," Connor said in a stern, yet somewhat loud voice. Dylan opened up a sleepy eye. "Alright, man, settle down. I'm up. I'm up."

He went downstairs to the kitchen, putting on his glasses along the way. He found that his mother figure, Amber, was waiting for him. "Mom!? I-err..." Dylan stammered. "Don't worry about it. You did nothing wrong," Amber said calmly. "You just have to go to the Pokemon Lab." Dylan shook his head, still half asleep. "The Pokemon Lab?"

"Yes, you have to get your starter." Dylan smiled.

"I'm proud of you, you know that?" Amber asked. Dylan nodded, and headed out to the Professor's Lab.

When the doors opened, Dylan found a man who looked like he just got a tan, wearing a lab coat. "Are you...the Pokemon Professor?" "Of course I am! Name's Professor Sequoia. You must be Dylan. Your family's told me lots of great things about you."

"Well, not really my family, exactly. You see, they...adopted me, if you will. But they do love me."

"Ah, well I have the perfect starter than you." He tossed a Poke Ball and out came a small avian Pokemon.

"Its name is Spirow. I hope you two get along well." Spirow tweeted a friendly hello. Professor Sequoia handed out a sleek, but short and stumpy device, resembling a Nintendo 3DS. This was Dylan's Pokedex. Dylan looked at the little avian Pokemon. "You're gonna be a good friend, Spirow." Professor Sequoia gave Dylan some Poke Balls. "Let me know when you run out!" he called and Dylan was on his way back to his house, with Spirow trotting alongside.

Dylan opened the door to find Connor and Amber waiting in the living room. "We're going to miss you." Dylan sighed. "I'll miss you, too." Dylan was trying to hold back tears as his loving family embraced him one last time. "Promise you'll come back?" Connor asked. "Of course I will, Connor." And with one last goodbye, Dylan exited his home, off to start his journey!
