Asuka Hikawa, a girl who struggled immensely to make friends due to her tendency to be loud and abrasive.
Her habit of not being able to pick on social cues left her to be sat by herself during lunch on the bench. She sighed to herself.
When will I make friends?
It was then she noticed out of the corner of her eye a boy eating some food. His appearance striked her as odd. His hair colour was different yes, but his eyes were twinkling in two different colours. She went back to her thoughts not thinking much of it.
"Hey! do you wanna have some?"
She looked up to see the boy looking at her.
"What have you got there?"
"Katsudon. I won't be able to finish it all and besides, you're hungry aren't you?"
"How do you know that?"
Her stomach rumbled as if on cue, making him snicker slightly.
"That was kinda a dead giveaway."
"Uh, sure I'll have some thank you."
"Katsudon tastes so good, I'm not joking."
"Ah really? I haven't seen you around here before. I'm Asuka, what's your name?"
"Don't talk much huh? Well that's ok."
"Wow haven't I had this before!!"
" Wait, you like katsudon as well? It's my favourite!"
"And um, sorry people don't usually talk to me much. my name is Yu. Yu Arata."
Asuka smiled, hoping to comfort the boy.
"Well, we both like Katsudon so we have something in common. What do you like to do for fun?"
"You wanna know about me? Why?"
"Why? I don't usually have anyone to talk to either so this is new."
"Well...I like drawing."
"You draw? can I see?"
He flipped open the pages of his sketchbook, the faint scent of graphite crowding the table.
"Wow Yu! These are amazing. How long have you been drawing for?"
"About 5 years."
"That's some talent." She mused.
"Thanks."
Nobody has ever praised me before.
"Oh yeah! I was wondering what's your quirk? Mine's pretty boring- I can make clones of myself. Not the most interesting, I know."
"I .think that's cool. I...um make ice out of my body-"
"You have ice powers? That's awesome!" She jolted, her eyes big with awe.
Yu glanced at her, and blinked. His hands defensively hovering over the table, he chuckled to himself.
"Sorry. I have a habit of speaking my mind a bit too loudly."
"It's fine, I don't mind."
His pores frosted over, creating a miniature sculpture.
"Here."
" I'm flattered, thank you."
"You said your name is Asuka, right?"
"Yep that's right asuka hikawa."
Time passed, and a string was knitted between them.
asuka looked down then back at yu
"Y'know, for someone so quiet your super interesting and pretty fun to talk to."
"I...i am?"
"You're super passionate about the things you like and I think that's pretty cute...I mean cool."
"Well thanks I guess." His ears reddened.
"Can I ask you something?"
"Um ok?"
"Do you wanna be friends? I mean we both have stuff in common and we'll I would like to talk to you more."
"You wanna be friends with me? But why?"
Asuka put her hand on Yu's shoulder.
" I said you are fun to talk to that's why!"
"I mean I'm not the best at speaking, but I enjoyed talking with you too Asuka."
"Then it's settled. Here, let's exchange numbers."
He awkwardly handed his phone over, embarrassed by his lack of knowledge for things that were common. She brushed it off, pressing in her number.
"I'll text you tonight!"
"S-sure sounds good."
Asuka walking back to class had an odd feeling, one she hadn't experienced before. She couldn't quite explain it. She couldn't stop smiling, she had finally found a friend. Asuka was determined to do whatever it took to keep him.
Little did she know that meeting that boy would change her destiny forever.
