Hi guys, here's my take on how Turbo overtook Sugar Rush and reduced Vanellope to nothing but a glitch. I always thought it was weird that no one in the movies, not Ralph or Felix drew attention to the fact that a literal child was locked up, or thought of any emotional tax that might have been left on Vanellope. Turbo wasn't even mentioned in the second one which is pretty shocking. Anyway, here's the story of the downfall Princess Vanellope Von Schweetz, and the evil King Candy :)
Turbo Takeover
Turbo's game was unplugged ten years ago. Turbo-Time had been painfully side-lined for some new, fancier game with "cooler" graphics, goddamn Road-Blasters. And boy was Turbo jealous. His actions to regain fame ended up getting both games unplugged and demolished, for good. But that didn't stop Turbo's digital heart from beating. For deep within the darkness of Game Central Station, Turbo lived in the shadows, waiting. Waiting for what? He didn't know. But he had survived on scraps and shelter for this long. Who was to say he couldn't continue this fugitive lifestyle? No one else at Litwack's even knew he was there. Everyone thought he died along with his game, not even the Surge protector, who knew every inch of this place was aware of Turbo's existence. Turbo knew that his name had become legend. He had overheard people telling the tale of the tragic Turbo, killed by his own desire for fame. Little did they know, he was still alive. But he was slowly going mad without his passion in life; racing. But all that was about to change.
One day, an ear-piercing plug-in alert boomed throughout game central station. Dozens of video-game characters lined up to view whatever new game was joining Litwack's ranks. The screen above the entrance panel blinked red a few times before reading "Sugar Rush". The characters murmured and hummed in amusement before heading off to their own games. But Turbo stayed behind. Since his fellow racers, all two of them, had been sucked up with the game when it was unplugged, he was all alone with no-one but himself to care for. Creeping out of the shadows, he tip-toed up to the game's entrance, keeping out of the Surge Protectors way.
When the annoying blue man zapped away, Turbo made his way over to the game. Unfortunately, he was stopped by an invisible barrier keeping him from entering. It was only then that he noticed a sign placed next to the wall saying "No Entering Game Until Five Weeks Of Gameplay Have Passed".
"Great" Turbo thought. Now he had to wait five weeks before venturing into this unknown place. "Oh well, I've survived this long." He thought. And with that, he ventured back to his hiding place. As he stalked back to his shadow realm, he whispered to himself "Turbo-Tastic!"
Over the next couple days, Turbo listened through the shadows, hopeful to catch any word of this new game. "Yeah, I heard its really popular with the girls." He heard one character say. "I can see game from mine." Said Zangeif. "Is very girly. Very pink." At this, Turbo grunted.
"A girls game?" He groaned. Maybe this wasn't going to be all that he had hoped. After another five weeks of living off of scraps and staying out of sight, Turbo finally decided it was time to enter Sugar Rush, just to see what it was like. He had to get out of here, he couldn't live like this anymore. He needed to be a video game character again. Learning nothing from his past actions, Turbo made for the game. As the sign said, after five weeks people could enter, and the barrier was no longer there. He stepped through and caught the train which lead through to a world made entirely out of candy. The ground was made out of chocolate fudge, the clouds were tufts of pink cotton candy, and an enormous mountain shaped like a cola bottle stood tall and proud in the distance. It was a very large and expansive world, with an extremely annoying J-Pop song playing non-stop. It was definitely a girls game alright. But the thing that caught Turbo's eye the most, was a line of candy themed go-karts speeding along a racetrack. Turbo nearly jumped for joy.
"Yes! Yes!" He cried. "Finally, a new racing game! Maybe it doesn't have to suck! Now, who's the leader around these parts…" And he set off. He eventually found his way to the racetrack, where the racers were just completing their final lap. Turbo was careful to stay out of sight, as his ghostly white body and yellow eyes would stick out like a sore thumb in this cute-sy style world. He ducked behind a bleacher stand full of Animal Cracker cookie... people, he didn't really know, and watched with intense curiosity as the colourful karts zoomed to a stop. As the racers hopped out of their karts, Turbo was shocked to find that they were all children! The oldest looking one with a fluffy winter hat seemed to be no older than 12! However, a particularly little girl, with jet black hair, stood out among the others. She wore a crown. As an announcer's voice played over some speakers, Turbo figured out who the ruler was around here.
"In 1st Place, Princess Vanellope Von Schweetz!" Boomed the voice. The racers high-fived each other and crowded around Vanellope as she received her golden trophy. It floated down into her tiny gloved hands. A screen on wheels, typically used for the game capture in first-person-shooters, wheeled along and stopped in front of Vanellope, and she fist bumped the screen so the player on the other side could fist bump her back.
"Soo…" said Turbo "I just have to get little miss Princess out of the way. And then we'll see what can be done around here..." Hours later, when the arcade was closed, Turbo made his way to White-Chocolate Castle and knocked on the unguarded doors, where he was greeted by a tiny green sour ball. "Mmm yeeeees?" The sour ball asked, in a depressed and monotone voice. "I request to see the Princess at once." Turbo said. The sour ball, not caring otherwise, shrugged his non-existent shoulders. "Alright." He said. Sour bill led Turbo into the throne room, where the bubbling Princess sat looking over files on her throne. It was her job to go over kingdom management whenever she wasn't racing, despite her age. She was a pretty smart kid after all.
"Sour Bill, I'm gonna have to cancel the drilling for maple syrup agreement. We must invest in cupcake beater wind farms, it's very important for our sugar-eco-system…" She began as her right-hand-man entered the room. "Your majesty" the sour ball began "There is someone here who requests to speak with you." The tiny child looked up from her paperwork. "Send him in." she said.
Turbo entered the room, and Sour Bill stayed outside, still keeping an eye on his Princess, just in case this newcomer had tricks up his sleeve. "Your highness" turbo began. "My name is Turbo, and my game was unplugged. It was a racing game, and racing is all I've ever known. So I was wondering, if your great candiness would allow me to live in your, um, deliciously themed world." He said. Vanellope thought it over. "You're gameless?" She asked. Turbo nodded. Vanellope was a bit suspicious, but she was also compassionate. However her naivety got the better of her. "Okay, you can live here." she said. Turbo cheered. "Thank you your majesty!" He said. "But you won't be able to race." Said Vanellope. "You're not from this game and you don't have an avatar. If you can find a place to set up shop that's out of the way, then, I don't see a problem." Turbo put on a fake pout, as he had larger plans in mind. On the outside he looked disappointed, but on the inside he wore an evil grin. "Oh well." He said. "You can't have your cake and eat it too, hehe" he said, laughing at the bad pun. Vanellope just blinked.
