More of a practice run for something bigger but will probably continue
Grandmaster Robin Lowell of Ylisse hated her name. It was simply a title, a distraction from who she really was to placate the people around her and boost her own ego. She thought of herself as more, as a wife, friend, and mother. But even at these things, she felt unsure of now. She was, after all this time, simply a slave to Validar's will. She had been taken control of by her father at a critical moment and had simply handed over the fire emblem.
She felt disgusted with herself. How had she not predicted this? She had always been connected to Grima, and to think they would not be able to take advantage of her was foolish. What would her children think? What would Chrom think? She was too scared to find out.
So as the sun set, Robin found herself sitting atop a cliff overlooking a valley full of trees and the greenest grass she'd ever seen. She stared at the sun, thinking about the things that plagued her mind. It was calming, in a way.
"Beg, pardon mother, may I have a word?"
Robin jumped, turning to see Lucina standing behind her, waiting. She hadn't even heard her walk up.
"Y-yes, of course, dearest." She mumbled, nervousness racking her body.
"It's about father," Lucina said, sitting down next to her mother, "I remember almost nothing of him when I was younger, but people always told me stories of what a great man he was." She smiled happily. "Now that I have met him, I see these stories hold true to themselves. The world was robbed of a great man when he died... I cannot allow that to happen again."
Robin's shoulders relaxed, her smile matching her daughters. "You love him as I do, I see."
"Mother, I..." Lucina's smile was gone, uncertainty replacing it. "I believe you killed Chrom, and are fated to do so even now."
Robin recoiled as if struck across the face. "Kill Chrom? Lucina, that's insa-" She cried out and rolled to the side as the Falchion made a sweep for her head, missing by a hair. Robin stumbled backward on her hands, crying out as her hand slipped on the rock face. Falchion leveled itself against her chest.
"I-I don't want to do this, Robin, but sacrifices must be made if we are to avoid the dark future."
"L-Lucina..."
Falchion wavered for a second, but Robin made no move to stop her. The only sound that could be heard was Lucina's frantic breathing. "Please don't make this harder, mother... if you hold any love for Chrom, you will let this be done..."
Robin lay there unmoving as she took calming breaths. Falchion did not move.
"...Why do you not fight back, mother?"
"I would give my life for Chrom's. Yours as well." Robin closed her eyes, a smile spreading across her face. "My life has always been in your hands."
Falchion shook, Lucina's grip unsteady. Robin felt something wet impact against her face, and her smile grew a little wider.
"I know you will be quick about it." Falchion rose high above Lucina's head, ready to be brought down like an executioner's ax.
"I love you."
Cold steel clashed against the warmth of a beating heart, and Robin Lowell, mother, wife, and friend, was no more.
