The End. Everything that lives must die. Everything that is created must be destroyed. Everything that has a beginning must have an end.
Natsuki Subaru has had a long and painful journey, and the end was upon him. In his hand, he held the Dragon Sword Reid, a weapon he shouldn't be able to wield, but desperate times mean desperate measures.
Satella, the Witch of Envy, was currently sitting against a wall, heavily injured, but that would not last. Her Immortality will pull her back together.
This was the end. Subaru knew what he had to do.
But he didn't know if he had the strength to do it.
"We don't have much time."
A pained expression formed on the Knight's face.
"We can find another way. This doesn't have to be how it all ends..." Subaru had hoped a solution would present itself, but to no avail.
The Witch simply smiled in contentment. "My Sins are far to great. The World will continue to seek my Death as long as I exist, and you would never abandon them for me."
The Knight looked away. Satella had wormed her way into his heart, not unlike a certain Oni. However, Satella had always been on his side, and his side alone. She supported no one else, she assisted no one else.
She loved no one else. No one but him.
"Do not grieve, my beloved. For I shall always live on in your heart, and I could not ask for anything more."
Teary-eyed as he is, Subaru knew the window was closing with each passing second.
"I have to mourn you. Because no one else will."
"It's ok to mourn, but do not let me drag you down to the depths of despair. Cherish the times we had, and look forward to the Future. It is like that one saying, 'When one door closes, another opens'." The Witch tried to assure her beloved.
The Witch closed her eyes and sigh.
"It is time."
With a shaking grip, Subaru points the Sword directly at the Witch's heart.
"Heh... It just had to be me, didn't it?" The Knight gave a sad smile at the horrible irony.
"My Immortality can only be bypassed by the one I hold most dear, you know this."
The Knight narrowed his eyes. He was not ready, mentally or emotionally, to end the Witch, but when had fate ever given a damn about what he wanted?
"One more thing."
Subaru refocused his attention to the Half-Elf. Her eyes full of regret and sorrow, but one emotion be saw through those eyes above all else, was love. Love completely devoted to him.
"May I... Will you Kiss me?"
The Knight widened his eyes at the request.
"If I have to die... then the last thing I want to feel is your love."
His Love. He never demonstrated his feelings for the Half-Elf. At first, he feared her, but then he learned his history. Their history, and it all made sense.
This was the least he could do for her.
"...I'll make it one to die for..."
A smile appeared on the Witch's face for the last time.
"You better."
The two began to close the space between them.
"No matter what happens, in this or any other life, I have and will always love you, Natsuki Subaru. My beloved Hero."
Tear finally streamed down the Knights face.
"And I will do everything in my power to give you all the love you deserve, Satella."
The two closed their eyes and their lips met.
And the Sword went straight through the Witch's heart.
