Deanna called William on his phaser.

"Yes, Dee?"

"Can I see you a moment, please, Will? It's rather important!"

"Sure, Dee. I'm in my quarters, right now."

"Thanks. I'll be right there."

"Ok."

She was there in less than five minutes. One look at her, and he could tell that something was very wrong.

"Something's troubling you, Dee," he said.

"Yes, Will!" She was close to tears.

"Ok. Sit down and tell me about it."

"Thanks." She sat on his bed. "I've lost my ESP powers!"

"I see! You can't hear any voices?"

"No, Will!"

"Have you seen Beverly?"

"Just saw her. She says there's not much she can do. I should perhaps see a Betazoid specialist."

"Well, perhaps Jean Luc will be willing to take you to one. There isn't much going on at the moment, fortunately."

"Yes, that's possible."

"That happened to you once before, didn't it?"

"Yes, that's right."

"And it came back naturally, didn't it?"

"Yes, it did."

"Well, maybe you should just try and not worry about it too much."

"Yes, perhaps you're right, Will."

He went to the replicator. "Two glasses of Bedazed Blue Wine."

"Yes, First Mate Riker."

A few seconds later, two glasses of a deeply blue wine appeared. He picked them up and gave one to Dee.

"To getting your powers back."

They clicked glasses and drank.

"I've got an idea!" he suddenly announced.

"What is it, Will?"

"Do you remember a few weeks about when the ambassador from Xanon was here to establish relations with the Federation?"

"Oh, yes."

"And you had trouble reading his mind?"

"I remember."

"You mentioned that you visited him in his quarters, and you were barefooted because—"

"—I can read people's minds better when I'm barefooted, that's right, Will!"

"Yes!"

She quickly took her boots and socks off. He held her glass, while she did this.

"Well?"

"I'm not quite sure…" She stood up and faced him. "Focus on one thought, will."

"Ok."

He did this, and she stared at him. Suddenly, she smiled.

"Thank you, Will!"

"You're welcome—HEY!"

They hugged and kissed. He gave her back the wine, and they sat on the bed together and drank it.

"I'm starting to hear the voices again—not as strong, yet."

"Well, that's better than nothing."

"True."

"I think Jean Luc will be quite willing to go to a Federation space station to have you looked over by a Betazoid doctor."

"Yes, I'm sure he will."

"Meanwhile, you can continue your duties barefooted!"

"Oh, if only I could!"

They both laughed.

He replicated two more glasses of Betazed Blue Wine, which they drank slowly.

Eventually, they went to Space Station XR-16, where a Betazoid doctor looked her over. She was put on a diet regiment, which gave her her complete powers back.
