Chapter 1: Celestia Meets Solar
A.N. Well, folks, it's that time again. This time, I'm taking you on a journey to the land of Equestria, home of such iconic characters from the widely-received television show My Little Pony: Friendship Is Magic as Twilight Sparkle, Applejack, and Princess Celestia, who just so happens to be one of the main subjects of this story. Also, I think I ought to let you all know that this story, and any other future MLP story on here, is NOT completely canon to the show. Meaning, there are some aspects of the show that I'll stay true to while some aspects of these stories are some of my own. For example, in this universe, the ponies have such common technologies as phones (that does include cell phones, by the way), TVs, and even computers, which is pretty much a common thing for the MLP fandom. Also, the Young Six (Ocellus, Gallus, Sandbar, Silverstream, Smolder, and Yona), who were introduced in Season 8, will also be appearing regularly in these stories, as well Capper Dapperpaws from the 2017 movie.
A.N.2. I've actually been a fan of MLP since I was in my early teens. One main reason that I didn't write this story a long time ago is that I wasn't excactly interested in the idea of writing MLP fanfics on this site in the past compared to my buddy BigMoose01, mainly because of how I ship myself as a human with Twilight Sparkle (yeah, that's right, I'm one of those guys), and since FanFiction doesn't allow second person-based interactive content (I don't know if shipping yourself with a given fictional character counts or not), I didn't want to get in trouble with the site. Another reason why I finally decided to start doing MLP stuff here could be because of how I've been writing stories for Hasbro's other popular franchise, Transformers, and am planning to do a crossover between the two, so I thought "Why not do one for MLP?", and so, here we are.
A.N.3. This idea of Celestia having a son has actually been with me from the get-go. At first, I was thinking of having the character be her biological son, but then I thought it would be a better idea to have him be her adoptive son. Also, I originally named him "Prince Lunar Eclipse", but then I thought "Solar Eclipse" sounded like a better name.
Well, I think I've said enough. Therefore, without further ado, let our story begin.
One day, Princess Celestia was making her way to the Canterlot Orphanage, carrying a bag of gold bits. Being the benevolent gold-hearted ruler of the land of Equestria that she was, she made a point of donating portions of her wealth to such instiutions, as well as to other charities to benefit those in her land that could barely afford a loaf of bread. And to add to this kindly gesture, she preferred to deliver the donations herself rather than have one of her guards deliver it.
"I do enjoy giving away to those in need." she told herself. "It really does feel good to do something nice for someone who is less fortunate than you."
She soon arrived at the orphanage and went inside. The caretaker, a unicorn stallion named Sweet Hooves, saw her.
"Good afternoon, Your Majesty." he said. "I see you're making your monthly donation?"
"Indeed I am." Celestia said as she set the bag down on the caretaker's desk.
Just then, a young unicorn colt came up to Sweet Hooves. The colt was pure white and had dark blue eyes and a matching mane and tail. He was also holding a toy train and a wheel in his magic, clearly evident that the toy was broken.
"Mister Sweet Hooves, one of the wheels on this toy train came loose and fell off." the colt said. "Can you fix it?"
"Sure, bud." said Sweet Hooves. "Just set it right here and I'll fetch my toolbox. Pardon me, Your Majesty."
"Of course." Celestia nodded as Sweet Hooves left.
The colt then noticed the orphanage's visitor and was in awe.
"Princess Celestia?" he gasped.
"Yes, that's me." Celestia giggled. "What's your name, little one?"
"Solar Eclipse." said the colt. "But my friends just call me "Solar" for short."
"It's nice to meet you, Solar Eclipse." said Celestia. "I take it you're fond of trains?"
"Yup!" Solar grinned. "They're so cool! I like listening to the whistle blowing and watching the steam hiss out! It's so amazing!"
"That's nice." Celestia smiled. "My sister Luna is very fond of video games."
Solar gasped.
"So the rumors are true." he said.
"You could say that." Celestia winked.
Just then, Sweet Hooves returned with a toolbox, out of which he took a screwdriver, which he used to reattach the wheel onto the train, tightening it just enough so that it would still allow the wheel to spin freely like the others while still remaining properly secured.
"There you go, bud." he said as he gave the toy back to Solar. "Good as new."
"Thanks!" grinned Solar as he scampered away with the toy.
"Yeah, Solar just loves that toy train." Sweet Hooves chuckled. "It's his favorite toy."
"I can see that." agreed Celestia.
Just then, Sweet Hooves noticed the time on the clock.
"It's just about Story Time." he said to the princess. "Would you like to stay for a while?"
"As much as would like to, I'm afraid I can't." Celestia denied. "I have other matters to attend to back at my castle. Perhaps another time."
"Alright." said Sweet Hooves. "Take care, Your Majesty."
"You too." replied Celestia as she left the orphanage.
As Celestia made her way back to Canterlot Castle, where she resided with her sister and co-ruler, Princess Luna, she couldn't stop thinking about Solar.
"Such a sweet little thing." she said to herself. "How can somepony not love him? He sounds like a real sweetheart."
She soon returned home and went into the throne room.
"Sister, I'm home!" she announced.
But there was no answer.
"Sister?" Celestia called again.
Again, no answer. It was then that Celestia was struck by a hunch.
"She must be in her gaming room." she guessed.
Celestia went down the hall, and sure enough, there was Luna in a gaming room that was used mostly by Luna alone, but was shared with the sisters on occasion. She was seated in a custom-made gaming chair that featured her cutie mark on the headrest with a pair of gaming headphones, also custom-made with her cutie mark on them. The game she was playing was Transformers: War For Cybertron on the PlayStation 3. Luna was only made aware of her sister's return when Celestia tapped one of her hooves on her shoulder.
"Hello, Sister." Luna blushed as she paused her game and placed her headset around her neck. "How was your excursion to the orhpanage?"
"It was good, as usual." said Celestia. "But there was something different about this particular trip."
Celestia then told her sister about Solar Eclipse.
"He sounds like a cutie." said Luna.
Just then, Luna had an idea.
"Sister, you know that empty room we've had for who knows how long now?" she asked.
"Yes?" nodded Celestia.
"Well, I think I know what we can do with it now." Luna replied.
Luna then shared her idea with her sister. Celestia thought whatever idea Luna had shared was a wonderful one.
"We shall make the arrangements right away." Celestia decided. "I'll go down to the orphanage and get the adoption settled."
"And I'll make some call." said Luna. "And perhaps we should get in touch with Pinkie Pie to plan a party to celebrate."
"Good call." said Celestia.
And so, with these plans made, the sisters began setting them in motion. While Luna consulted the white and yellow pages for a decorator, Celestia set off for the orphanage.
"Young Solar Eclipse is in for a real surprise." Celestia said as she walked out the doors of the castle.
