Okinawa 1940
After training with his father and his best friend sato, Miyagi and Sato decide to go fishing in the river which was a time of bonding. After they finish catching the fish, Miyagi tells Sato,"Hoi Sato,Miyagi need to go to help father out with fishing." Sato tells Miyagi,"No training tomorrow?" Miyagi replied in return, "Hai," As a result, both go on their separate ways back to their homes. On his way home Miyagi meets Yukie who is a friend of both Sato and Miyagi. Consequentially, Miyagi tells Yukie, "Yukie, you still want to go to town tomorrow?" To which Yukie replies,"Of course Miyagi-san."
The next day, Yukie and Miyagi go to town for a few hours to eat and after Miyagi returns to the village he goes to his father to help fish. The father of Miyagi tells him,"ready to fish my son?" which Miyagi replies,"Hai father" For another few hours he helps his father fish and after they catch the amount of fish to eat and to save for later, they head back home. While Miyagi heads home he runs into Yukie and both of them decide to talk for a bit in which Yukie tells Miyagi, "Miyagi-san, you make me happy when you with me and both of us spend time happy together." Miyagi shocked by this tells Yukie, "Yukie, spend time with you make me happy and ask you to marry me and to break tradition and spend time forever." Yukie is shocked with delight and fear as she didn't know what would happen if this marriage occured replied,"yes but how we tell village?" Miyagi tells her,"don't worry i know how to tell village"
Meanwhile,Sato is told to meet with his parents quickly as they have something to tell him and when he arrives his parents get straight to the point,"Sato, you've been arranged to marry Yukie." Hearing this Sato tells his parents,"i will honor your arrangement."
At nighttime, Miyagi gathers the whole village including Sato and his father and announces,"Miyagi break with tradition to marry true love Yukie, no more need for arrange marriage. Cannot stop true love because it stop at nothing" With that Sato felt furious and after the village leaves he Sternly and furiously tells Miyagi,"You dishonored my family and my future marriage to Yukie! You betray me after everything you and i do! I cannot let it rest! Miyagi, I challenge you to honor match! We fight to the death midnight tomorrow!" Miyagi calmly tells Sato "sorry Sato but true love know nothing" After telling Sato those words Miyagi runs to Yukie to tell her "Sato challenge me to fight to death. cannot stay for long now i must leave." Yukie tells him,"I know, parents tell me I'm arranged to him. i help you leave. "
While Yukie helps Miyagi pack up and leave, miyagi's father arrives and realizes Miyagi packing up and tells him,"i know why you leave, you can't fight a friend and what you did was right," Miyagi tells him,"Father, i avoid punch by not being there, and i can't fight Sato, he my best friend." After packing up, Yukie tells him,"i wish I could go with you but my parents expect me to marry Sato." Miyagi wishes to take Yukie with him but he knows that would make Sato feel worse.
At nighttime, Miyagi gets everything and finds a boat and gets ready to leave okinawa for america. Once he gets on the boat, he gets the rows and leaves. In the morning, Sato goes to find Miyagi but he is nowhere to be found he tells himself, "coward"
Several weeks pass and Miyagi is on the boat and arrives on land and realizes that he is in hawaii.
