Helga's Big Change
I do not own Hey Arnold!
It was a Friday afternoon. School had just turned out for the summer. A football-headed boy and his tall-haired best friend were walking on the sidewalk around his neighborhood. They were both chatting about their plans for the summer. A blonde haired girl with one eyebrow and a pink bow had been listening in on their conversation.
That's when the tall-haired boy changed the subject.
"Hey Arnold, what do you think our friends will grow up to be like in the future?"
Arnold pondered a bit. "I don't know Gerald. I guess I never really thought about it."
Gerald looked up to the sky and crossed his arms.
"Well, I see Eugene becoming an actor or a singer because he'll always break into song haha."
"I agree." Arnold nodded.
"Stinky is talented, he can garden, play an instrument, loves lemmon puddin', he can truly be anything really. Rhonda will be a rich fashion designer who remains obnoxious and judgmental. Or she could be a writer for a magazine since her other favorite thing to do is gossip about other people and what they are wearing haha."
"You got that right Gerald." Arnold said chuckling along with him.
"I see Lila growing up to be successful, and spending time on the farm."
Arnold smiled at the mentioning of her name. "Yeah, that is true."
"Harold is smart and can also be anything. Sid as well. As for Phoebe, she could practically be the president of the United States." Gerald said with a grin while blushing.
Arnold rolled his eyes, smiling knowingly at his best friend.
"Mhmm."
Gerald scratched his head. "Am I missing anyone?"
"I don't know." Arnold shrugged.
Suddenly his eyes widened.
"I know who I'm missing..." He smirked.
"Who?"
"Helga."
There was a long moment of silence between the two boys before they both bursted out with laughter.
Gerald held his stomach. "HELGA G. PATAKI HAHAHAHA! NOW THAT IS FUNNY! IF ANYTHING SHE'S A FREAK OF NATURE."
Arnold laughed along with him. "Hahahaha! G-Gerald that's not nice! But kinda true.."
Helga, from behind the trashcans glared darkly at them.
(Ohhhhhhh, so you agree with him football head. Rookie mistake.)
"There is NO way that Helga G. Pataki could go a full day or two without calling someone a geek or being mean. I just don't see it Arnold." Gerald said while shaking his head.
"Me either, but nothing is impossible right?" Arnold said.
"Whatever you say Arnold. Anyways, enough talking about her, let's go to the arcade. There's this one game I've been dying to play."
"Ok. Let's go."
The two boys walked off and when they disappeared, Helga came out from behind the trash can with a smirk.
"Oh just you wait. Once summer's over and we start sixth grade, you'll both be speechless."
Suddenly, Helga felt breathing on her neck. Knowing who it was, she socked Brainy and walked away.

Chapter 1: New Beginnings
Summer went by pretty fast. Helga was already pumped about going to school. She had gotten somewhat taller over the summer and was slightly tanned. The night before the first day of sixth grade was overwhelming, yet exciting for her. She was on a mission to improve herself and it was a mission not even her best friend Phoebe knew about.
At 8 PM, Helga had finished her dinner and was getting in the bed. She had set her alarm clock to the appropriate morning time so she had just enough to get ready. She was giddy and nervous when she tried to fall asleep. Soon she was tired enough and her eyes shut with ease.
RIIIIIIINGGGG!
It was her alarm going off. Helga shot up quickly in her bed and rubbed her eyes. She slammed off the alarm clock and slid out of bed. Going over to her closet she got out her outfit for the day. First, she went into the bathroom to take a shower and when she was done she put on her outfit. Helga looked into the mirror and looked at the pigtails on her head.
'Hmm...if I am going to change my style then I should let my hair loose.'
And with that, she let her hair loose out of her pigtails and brushed it down. She also had bangs that would cover her eyes slightly so she brushed them down too. Her hair was long and wavy, perfectly cascading over her shoulders. She then applied light makeup nicely to her face. She put on tiny bow earrings which were pink and looked at herself in the mirror. For some reason, she felt like she had forgotten something. Her eyes widened when she realized what it was.
'My unibrow!'
Helga had to brush her bangs out of her face so she could shave her unibrow into two eyebrows. It worked perfectly and she brushed her bangs down again. Finally, she looked at her finished look in the mirror.
She was wearing a royal blue spaghetti strap crop top with red high waisted paper bag shorts. She wore a golden choker she designed herself that spelled out Helga. Her shoes were simply red high tops and her pink bow was rested on her head. She had on light pink eyeshadow and red lipstick. Her nails had been painted the night before light pink. Satisfied with her final look, she went into her room, grabbed her backpack, and went downstairs.
Downstairs, her mother was sleeping on the couch while drooling.
'The usual' Helga thought with a slight frown. Sighing she scanned around the room for her father. She then walked into the dining room to see her father asleep as well in his chair.
"Bob! Did you make my lunch? Wake up Bob!"
He answered her with a grumpy tone, "Eh your mother made it for you on the counter, stop bothering me Olga..."
"Whatever. And it's HELGA dad."
He then proceeded to snore again in his sleep.
Rolling her eyes, she went over to the counter to grab her lunch kit and walked out the door.
Soon, she had reached Phoebe's house so they could walk to school together. She was honestly pretty excited wondering what Phoebe's reaction would be to her new look. Helga pulled out her phone and started to text her best friend.
From inside, Phoebe was in her room brushing down her dark hair when she heard her phone ding. Picking up her phone, she read the text.
Helga: Hey Pheebs! I'm outside. Ready to go?
Phoebe gasped and looked at her watch. She texted Helga back.
Phoebe: Yeah, I'll be right out in a second!
Helga saw the reply she got from Phoebe and turned off her phone, putting it in her backpack. To pass the time, Helga had put her hands in her pockets and was whistling to a song that was stuck in her head. Soon enough, her friend came out the house with her backpack and shut the door behind her. When she reached the bottom of the stoop, she finally looked at Helga.
Needless to say, her jaw dropped. Probably even more than humanly possible. So many questions had been going through her mind at the moment. All she could say was-
"H-HELGA?! WHAT-HOW-WHEN-WHY-"
Helga raised one of her eyebrows.
"Uh...Pheebs? Could you maybe talk in a language I understand?"
Phoebe was taking in her new appearance and didn't even notice that Helga had two eyebrows now until she raised one of them. After calming down a bit, Phoebe finally spoke without stuttering.
"Sorry Helga! It's just...I wasn't expecting to see all of this! I'm speechless! Your hair, your new style, your shoes and that choker with your name on it! It's so...perfect. You look perfect."
Helga smiled and chuckled. "Wow um...thanks I guess Pheebs. You look amazing too."
Phoebe smiled back at her. "Thanks Helga, I appreciate it. Let's get to school!"
On the way, they spent time chatting about their schedules and their summer. Somewhere along the lines, Phoebe brought up Helga's appearance again.
"So...what inspired you to change your appearance Helga?"
Helga shrugged. "I guess I realized that I wanted to improve myself a little bit over the summer. Also I realized that I'd always have the same style every year at school. Might as well change it up a bit right? Heh..." She blushed then looked away.
Phoebe nodded and looked at her. "Well that's an interesting way of thinking. As your loyal and trusting friend, I support you. "
Helga looked over to Phoebe and gave her a small smile. "Thanks Pheebs."
"Anytime Helga."
At P.S. 118...
The halls were filled with loud chatter and excitement.
"Is it true?!"
"You're kidding!"
"No way!"
"Who knows when she'll get here?"
"I can't believe it!"
Gerald had entered the school that morning seeing the hallways crowded and all the kids were busy chatting about something. Curious to know what was going on, he walked over to Rhonda who was gossiping amongst a group of girls.
"Hey, what is everybody going nuts about?"
Rhonda gasped. "Oh you haven't heard? Well, APPARENTLY Phoebe and Helga were seen walking to school a few minutes ago and she looks completely different!"
"Who?"
"Helga! Can you believe it?"
"Different? In what way?"
"I believe whoever spotted her said that she actually looked amazing. I highly doubt it."
Gerald crossed his arms. "I won't believe it til I see it."
"Well she's about to be here and everyone is in the hallway DYING to know if it's true."
"Well I guess we'll just wait then."
Gerald then saw Arnold walking into the school drinking a Yahoo Soda. He went over to his locker, squeezing his way through the crowd of students. Gerald walked over to him while shaking his head.
"Oh hey Gerald-"
He cut him short. "Mmmmmmmm Mmmmmm Mmmm! The first day of sixth grade is already getting crazy!"
Arnold looked over at the huge crowd of excited kids and then back at Gerald.
"Yeah, what was all that about?"
"Well I just talked to Rhonda and apparently some kid spotted Phoebe and Helga walking to school together and..."
"And?"
"Helga is rumored to look...I don't know...'amazing' I guess? It's all weirding me out man. I doubt that rumor is true."
Arnold blinked at him. "She changed her look? Why?"
Gerald shrugged. "Beats me. Anyways it's only been like what, two or three months? It's not like Helga would decide to wake up for school this morning with a whole new look-"
The double doors to the front of the school had opened slowly as everybody's attention was directed to the two young girls standing before them. They were laughing about something until they realized that everyone was staring at them. The chatter among the other students had ended and the entire school was quiet after they all gasped.
Arnold and Gerald had moved their way through the crowd so they could see for themselves upfront what had happened.
Gerald blushed at finding out he was wrong about Helga, then he blushed again seeing Phoebe.
"Um. H-Hi Phoebe."
Phoebe blushed as well. "Hello Gerald..."
Gerald looked over to his best friend Arnold Shortman, who was as still as a statue.
Helga's eyes grew wide and couldn't help but blush at him.
"H-Hey...Arnold." She said, trying to keep her composure.
Before he could stop himself, he spit out his yahoo soda onto her face.
"HELGA?!"
