Something is wrong with Kagome, and Inuyasha is worried about her condition. Meanwhile, Naraku has an evil plan that he sets into motion.

Set at some point near the end of the original series but before the Final Act. Probably around the end of season 6 or beginning of season 7.

This is a COMPLETE story. I have written the entire thing and will post a new chapter daily.

This is my first fan fiction, and I would love to hear your reactions. Constructive criticism is always appreciated. I would also enjoy hearing what specific parts you enjoyed the most :)

Disclaimer: I do not own any of the characters or ideas from Inuyasha. I only claim ownership of my own story inspired by the creations of Rumiko Takahashi.

Kagome sat by the fire, grateful for its warmth. The clouds were covering the stars, and the temperature had dropped considerably since nightfall. She shivered, which did not go unnoticed by the silver-haired half-demon sitting a short distance away leaning against a tree.

"Are you alright, Kagome?" he asked quietly, so as not to disturb the sleeping members of their party.

Kagome smiled. Overprotective as always. Not that she minded. She had grown quite fond of his presence and protection. "I'm just a little cold. That's all," she assured him with a smile.

Inuyasha wasn't convinced. She looks tired, he thought, with a frown. And she's paler than usual.

The young girl noticed his troubled face. "I'm fine, I promise. I've just felt...a little run-down the past few days. Nothing to worry about," she stated with another smile, hoping to convince Inuyasha.

"Heh," he replied, eyes closed with his arms folded across his chest and his hands in the sleeves of his robe. "Let me be the judge of that." Standing up, he removed his robe of the fire rat and came over to Kagome. Gently, he placed it on her shoulders and sat down beside her.

Kagome leaned into him and laid her head on his shoulder. Breathing in deeply, she smiled and closed her eyes. Nothing was quite as soothing as his scent and presence.

The half-demon couldn't stop himself from smiling either. The truth was that a short while ago, this simple action from the girl would have made him quite uncomfortable. Hell, a short while before even that and he would have tried to claw the eyes out of any human who may have wanted to touch him.

Speaking softly, he said, "go ahead and close your eyes, Kagome. Get some sleep. I'll keep you warm."

"Thanks, Inuyasha. You're the best," mumbled Kagome, as she drifted off to sleep.

Kagome woke abruptly a few short hours later. The sky is still dark. It's not even morning! Kagome looked around. Sango, Miroku, and Shippo were still laying on the other side of the fire, asleep. She looked up at Inuyasha, against whom she was still laying. His arm was around her shoulder and his head against her own.

He's still asleep, Kagome thought. What woke me up? Suddenly, her stomach lurched and she realized why she was no longer sleeping. Oh no!

Kagome pulled herself from Inuyasha and rushed to the bushes. Kneeling down, she bent forward into the foliage as her stomach liberated her dinner from her body.

Inuyasha's ears twitched. He heard a strange noise coming from the bushes. He looked down at Kagome and realized her absence. Fear took hold of him. Where is she? When did she move? Why didn't I wake up? He heard the noise from the bushes again and moved towards it, glaring and claws out at the ready. One hand moved to the hilt of Tetsusaiga, ready if needed.

As he approached, he saw a small figure doubled over at the edge of the treeline. He heard the strange noise again, and then Inuyasha caught Kagome's scent.

Realizing that the figure was actually Kagome, he let go of his sword and knelt behind her.

"Kagome, are you alright? What's the matter? Who did this to you?" His brow creased in worry while his hand moved again to his sword.

"It's nothing, Inuyasha. Must be a stomach bug," said Kagome, weakly, leaning herself back against his chest.

"A stomach bug?" replied Inuyasha, repulsed. "I've never heard of that kind of demon before. How am I supposed to fight it if it's in your stomach?"

Kagome chuckled to herself. Oh, Inuyasha. Always so ready to solve any problem with your fists.

"What's so funny? I'm just worried about you, Kagome. You don't need to make fun of me for it." Inuyasha huffed and looked off to the side, eyes closed.

Kagome smiled gently and looked up to him. She touched his face, and his eyes opened. "Thank you, Inuyasha."

Inuyasha blinked. "For what?"

"For always looking out for me."

"Oh, right, that," Inuyasha replied, turning slightly red. Old habits die hard, it turns out, and even now, Inuyasha was unused to compliments.

Kagome's eyes grew wide suddenly.

Every muscle in Inuyasha's body tensed. "What's wrong now, Kagome?"

"I have to vomit again!" yelped the young girl, once again lurching forward into the treeline.
