"There's nothing where he used to lie
My inspiration has run dry
That's what's goin' on
Nothing's right, I'm torn
I'm all out of faith
This is how I feel
I'm cold and I am ashamed
Bound and broken on the floor"
Torn
I came to a cold concrete floor. Sitting up gingerly in a wave of dizziness, and disorientation. It was obvious I had a minor concussion. I had no idea where I was or how I had gotten here.
The last thing I remembered was leaving Fangtasia after warning Eric, Pam and Bill of a raid that was about to take place.
I could feel the egg shape lump on the back of my skull. Something or rather someone had hit me on the back of the head, knocking me out. Why? Guess that is what I'd have to figure out.
First thing first I had to figure out where I was and how I was getting out of here. Gran had to be worried at this point. Surely she had called Detective Bellefleur by now. Probably Jason as well. I went out to a vampire bar and never came home. The thoughts that must be running around their minds currently.
With that in my head, I let out a few silent tears. As much as I wanted to worry about them. Now really wasn't the time. I needed to worry about myself first. The sunlight was pouring in through a window and a slight sigh of relief, at least I wouldn't be dealing with vampires currently.
Opening up my extra sense, I noticed that there was nobody around at all. I thought that was incredibly bizarre. Even at home in Bon temps if I fully let down my shields I could hear thoughts of townsfolk about a mile out. I must really be in the middle of nowhere. That is when dread started to creep in.
I walked the length of what I assumed to be a basement. There was a couch, a desk, a dresser and a bookcase.
I opened three doors -one was to a small bathroom with a shower- another was to a laundry room- the third led to a set of stairs to go to the main portion of the house yet that door was locked.
Walking back into the room looking around. On the desk was a TV, on the dresser a few walmart bags, on the bookcase there was a mix of books, CDs and movies.
Going through the bags on the dresser I found a couple sundresses as well as essentials (toothpaste, body wash) and food, bananas, apples, bread, peanut butter and jelly. Whoever kidnaped me knew me well, that made me cringe.
I really needed to take care of my human needs. Taking a shower was not the easiest task with the dizziness I was feeling but I felt almost human after I finally got out. I hadn't found any pain medications in the bags and how I wished I had some currently.
Putting on a yellow sundress from the bag, brushing my hair delicately as my head felt like it had been hit by a truck. I went back to the couch, grabbed everything I needed to make PB&J a banana, the movie Pearl Harbor off the bookcase and into the VHS player, sat down and made a sandwich and watched a movie.
I must have faded out into oblivion at some point during the movie because when I came back to myself I could hear an argument taking place above me. I reached out with my telepathy and all I found was -Voids-
Five of them to be exact. 'Jesus Christ Shepherd of Judea' this doesn't bode well for me.
I didn't dare move knowing everyone who was above me had superior hearing, I laid perfectly still trying to hear what I could of the conversation
"I procured her like you asked, she is here" a male voiced
"That is not what I asked of you, I told you to find out if she was a Telepath and report back. Not take her to my best sheriff's bar. Have her gain undo attention by announcing a raid, then kidnapping her"
the woman who was berating the male -Bill- (he was the one to take me to Fangtasia) sounded furious.
"You have been gone two weeks, and haven't checked in. I wake up tonight and have a message from my sheriff and from you.. do you understand at all how badly you screwed up..."
All of a sudden in the next instant two things happened almost instantly. The first thing was I heard a scream. Bills by the sounds of it. The second was two more -Voids- had approached.
The woman was still admonishing Bill as the door upstairs opened and the two other vampires joined Bill the woman and other three vampires who hadn't spoken that I could tell.
"Sheriff" the woman said to whoever had come in upstairs and all of a sudden I heard the unmistakable voice of the vampire I had met last night
"Your Majesty, to what do I owe the honor of your presence in my territory" was his response
I'm sorry did Eric Northman just say -Your Majesty- the Woman upstairs was a queen. In my shock over the statement I must have made a noise because everything went eerily silent for a couple of seconds before I heard
" Sounds like the Telepath is awake"
Four vampires immediately started heading down the stairs to the room I was in while three stayed upstairs.
I skittered to the wall on the opposite side of the room as the door that was about to be opened.
What does one terrified Telepath do when four vampires walk into the room she is being held in against her will?!
I took a deep breath in as I watched the procession of vampires enter the room. I recognized Pam and Eric.
The other two looked just seemingly young. A girl who looked about 17 but I could tell by the size of her -void- she was centuries older. Her -void- while smaller than Eric's, it was much bigger than Pam's.
The other vampire was a young boy. He could not have been more than 15 when he was made. Yet still looks were deceiving because he too must have been centuries older than Pam.
All four vampires silent as they appraised me as if I was Chattel. I exhaled and put on my -crazy- Sookie smile. Gran's voice in the back of my head 'always remember your manners you lady, carry yourself with pride, shoulders straight little girl' Looking each one in the eye, ending with Eric's crystal clear blue eyes. Letting my heartbeat calm a minute.
"Howdy de do, Eric Pam, nice to see you again so soon"
I could feel somebody trying to Glamour me almost immediately and tensed. Ignoring it I continued
" I'd ask what brings ya'll by, but I'm not really sure where I am at the moment, who are your young friends?"
At that I saw Eric's lip quirk, as Pam let out a soft chuckle. Quickly looking from Eric to Pam as the Glamour got more intense.
I took another quick peek at the two vampires before bringing my gaze to the door they left open.
I had no idea what they were trying to get me to do but when I didn't do anything after a couple seconds, the Glamour stopped.
I took another breath, relieved that the tense pressure was no longer batting against my shields. The one good thing I have after being a Telepath for so long is a poker face and I never let the relief show
I was surprised when it was the young boy answered -more like sneered as if talking to a human was beneath him-
"Hello Sookie, I'm Andre Paul and this is my maker Sophie-Anne."
"Well, I would say it's nice to meet y'all, but Gran always told me not to lie and I have no clue what is going on. Please forgive me for with-holding judgements."
I went a little flush, as I realized I just sassed two ancient vampires.
The Queen or "Sophie-Anne" as she was introduced flashed in front of me in a blur, I let out a sharp gasp in shock. I had always hated when Bill had just appeared before me.
She took a hold of my jaw. Looking me over head to toe, making me blush scarlett in mortification.
Leaning to nuzzling my neck as she inhaled deeply, she said to nobody -and everybody-
"You are nothing as Hadley described, no I don't see crazy, simple, meek and mild. No you are a feisty one, and you smell delicious my dear"
" you know Hadley? "
It came out as a whisper, I'm sure if they had been human nobody would have heard it.
Call me a bad Christian, but I hadn't thought about my cousin in years. Back when Aunt Linda was dying and she came around looking for money for rehab. Of course Gran gave it to her, and off she went. We never heard from her again.
After Aunt Linda had passed, we assumed she had overdosed and died. Gran would be so glad to know she wasn't dead somewhere as Jane does.
"That is a question I would like an answer to as well. It seems Bill Compton can not be trusted with even the simplest of tasks. Tell me is it true you are a Telepath?" The Queen asked me, as her eyes bore into mine, studying my every movement. The intense pressure was back in my head. -that would give me a headache in record time.
As calmly as I could I responded in a flat
"Yes"
Sophie-Ann then did a weird seal clap "Excellent, Excellent...You see I sent Bill out to meet you two weeks ago and to find out if you were or not. Why he decided to kidnap you from Mr. Northman's bar is something we were just about to find out when it came to our attention you were conscious. Actually we should continue that conversation with him now, come along"
I looked at the clock on the VHS player and realized I had passed back out for several hours as it was now just past 10:00. I had been gone now over 24 hours and Gran was probably losing her mind.
Without a thought of what was going out around me I blurted out "I need a phone" and I cringed as I saw four eyebrows raised in response. I needed to let Gran know that I was alive, and I was really hoping that was going to stay the case however, the way they all looked me over...suddenly I was not too sure. I looked to the redhead knowing it was her, that would be deciding my fate this night.
"Please let me call my Grandmother so that she will know I am alive, she will have called the police by now, and the last thing you need is Detective Bellefluer knocking on Fangtasia with the Shreveport police presence."
Knowing they had a raid last night, and I was seen on stage with Mr. Northman. I thought I had made a pretty good argument, while still polite. It seemed the Queen agreed as she gave Eric a look and he whipped out his cell phone and handed it to me.
I looked at the queen, straight in the eye and asked "Can I tell her about Hadley?'
She gave me a curious once over but then gave me a minute nod, acquiescing my request.
The phone rang twice before none other but Jason answer the phone
A Phone call with Gran
I turned my back to the four vampires in the room and closed my eyes, more scared of the phone call I would be having with my Gran with them in the room. Part of me felt like a child with her hand in the cookie cutter jar, and yet there was another part of me that wanted to scream. I am an adult and it should be ok to spend twenty four hours out of my home.
I knew the first thing I was going to do before the next sunset if I am still alive, was get myself a cell phone. I really don't want to be in a position where I could not reach Gran if the need arose.
The phone only rang once before Jason of all people answered the phone
"Hello, Sookie?" he asked and immediately I could tell he was worried and frustrated. Already I was on eggshells. What had happened, well wasn"t my fault, had caused my family -my Kin- harm. They were hurting because I had been missing. An errant tear ran down my cheek as I answered.
"Yeah Jas, It's me. I need to talk to Gran, can you give her the phone please?"
That's it Sookie, that is all you have to say +you need to talk to Gran+ what the fuck Sook.." he trailed off as I heard the thump of Gran hitting the back of my brother's head and he responded to her "Sorry for the language Gran" before continuing his rant in my direction
"Are you ok? Are you safe? Do i need to come get you, you had us all in an uproar. The whole town is up and arms. Heck Mrs. Fortenberry has some of her old friends gathering branches to make stakes, before heading off to Bill's house"
I had to chuckle at my brother, while he ain't got the good sense god gave a rock, he was loyal when family needed him and he would have gone to Bill's house with a stake if he thought it would get his sister back.
"Listen Jason, I reckon you have a bunch of questions and I promise I will make you breakfast and answer all the ones I can in the morning, if the creek don't rise. However, right now I really need to talk to Gran and let her know I am just fine ok?
With a hmph, Jason tossed over the phone to Gran, +she is fine and she wants to talk to you, not me. I am going to Merlottes and let people know + Jason knew he would get the answers he was looking for tomorrow and I was ok. He needed a beer. I took no offense, and smiled in relief that he trusted me enough to know that if I said I was fine, then I was.
"Hey baby girl, you sure you're good" Grans voice came through the line. A few more tears ran down my face, Was I? I still didn't know the answer to that question and bit back the fear I felt. Resolving myself and taking a small breath I did the one thing I had never done before.
I straight faced lied to my Grandmother
"Of course Gran, I am so sorry for not calling, but Bill died for the day with his cell phone. There was so much excitement last night and I panicked a little. Bill brought us to one of his safe houses outside of shreveport. Did you know there was a raid at Fangtasia last night. I had never seen anything like it. I fell asleep on the way to the safe house and didn't wake up before he had to seek shelter from the sun. Again Gran I am so very sorry for not calling"
I blurted it out like it was poison. I hated myself for a second at how easy it was to lie to her, Yet, really she didn't need to know that danger I currently found myself in.
Gran was quiet for a couple long minutes, thinking through everything I told her no doubt. I wanted to tap my foot or something, however I also wanted to keep myself as quiet as possible knowing the vampires behind me were watching my every movement.
Finally she responded. " I'm glad to hear you are well young lady, you are after all an adult. I wish you had called me as soon as the sun set when Bill roused for the evening. Do I want to know why you didn't?"
"Actually that was because when he woke up, he had some news to tell me. Gran, are you sitting down..?" I asked her. Knowing Jason had left and I wasn't home she was probably alone.
"Why yes, yes I am. Is it bad my sookie?" Gran asked, and honestly I did not have the answer to that.
"Hadley is a vampire" I deadpanned.
"Ohhh Myyy Stars, Hadley is alive?"
Yes Gran, that is all I know. I need to go chat with Bill and find out why he hadn't told me before, now I will let you know what I find out. I am hoping to be home in the morning, early afternoon at the latest..."
I trailed off before looking up and turning slightly looking at the vampires I met last night before my eyes found the Queen. I stared her down as if telling her that was how this was going to happen {or pleading that it would be} I don't really know which.
"...But I have to go now Gran. I need more information, I love you and I will see you soon"
I did not wait for her to answer before I gently pushed the end button and was still staring at the Queen...
"Let's get this over with" I mumbled to myself as Sophie-Anne gestured to Andre to start heading back up the stairs.
