Gaby's Countdown Part 1

One sunny summer Saturday morning, Gaby Fernandez awoke and went to the calendar on her bedroom wall.

Three weeks from today, Gaby thought. in three weeks, it will be my twelfth birthday!

Gaby raced into the Bodega, the convenience store that was owned by her parents.

Eduardo Coro Fernandez and his wife, Estella were already in the store when Gaby entered.

"Buenos dias, Gabriella." Eduardo said to his daughter in Spanish.

"Good morning, Papá." Gaby replied.

"¿Dónde estamos en la cuenta regresiva de cumpleaños?" Estella asked Gaby in Spanish.

"Three weeks, Mamá, I will be 12-years-old in three weeks, by the way, where'd Alex go?" Gaby asked.

"Alex went to the air... I mean, to the news stand to pick up a newspaper for your father." Estella answered Gaby.

Gaby noticed Tina entering the store.

"Hi, Gaby, I bought this by accident, my mom asked for Spanish rice, I need a refund." Tina said.

"No problem, Tina." Gaby said.

When Gaby checked the cash register, she gasped in horror.

"What is it, Gaby?" Tina asked.

"¡Papá! Mamá," Gaby exclaimed. "we've been robbed!"

Estella and Eduardo ran toward the cash register.

"Did you steal money from us again, Gabriella?" Eduardo asked sternly.

"Now, Eduardo," Estella chided. "we still have Gaby's letter, how could she steal from us again?"

"I don't know, Estella." Eduardo sighed.

Gaby looked inside the register's drawer.
