It was August 10th and the first day of orientation at Starlight Academy. Dinah held her bags close to her as she looked for the front desk. "Excuse me, can you tell me where I can check in please?" She asked a first class coach. "I was just about to ask you the same thing! I have no clue what I'm doing." The coach responded. "I'm Pearl by the way." Pearl extended her hand out to shake Dinah's. "I'm Dinah and I'm new here as you can probably tell." Dinah shook Pearl's hand and then looked around. "Guess we have to ask someone for help huh?" "Guess we do, we could ask her, she looks friendly!" Pearl pointed to a buffet car talking to one of the sleepers. "Yeah lets go ask." Dinah picked up her bags and walked across the grass in the direction of the buffet car with Pearl close behind until she tripped and fell. She looked up and saw the face of one of the bigger diesels.
"Why did you do that you jerk!" Pearl yelled at him and tried to push him but it really did nothing. "Cuz its funny to see 2nd class cares fall infront of you." The diesel laughed. "No its not! It's mean and very rude!" Pearl crossed her arms over her chest and stood at her full height which still was nothing compared to the engine. "Oh is it now?" He reached out and twirled a strand of her hair. Pearl tried to more her head away from him but when she did he pull on her hair. "Stop it! Let go!" Pearl shrieked. Just then Dinah got up and managed to pry his hand away from Pearls hair. "She said to stop now stop!" Dinah yelled. "Oh so you wanna be part of this too huh? Fine!" But before he could do anything to either of them another voice was heard.
"And this is why you'll be single forever Tank." The diesel know as Tank whipped around to the voice. "I was just having some fun Buff. Take it easy." "Don't call me Buff its not may name and do you see anyone else laughing cuz I sure don't." She skated closer with her hands on her hips. "Well... I uhh have to go the boss has...a uhh meeting... so uhh bye." He skated of with a mixture of blush and intimidation on his face. "Sorry about that, he's probably the worst person to worst encounter on the first day of orientation. I'm Buffy." Dinah and Pearl looked at each other then back at Buffy. "I'm Pearl and this is Dinah." Pearl introduced while she attempted to fix her hair to perfection while Dinah brushed dirt and grass off her skirt. "Nice to meet you! I guess you guess need to find registration right?" Dinah nodded. "Yeah, do ya know where it is?" "Sure do, my best friend helps there, I can take you." Pearl picked up her bags a Dinah did the same. "Yes thank you very much."
Pearl smiled. Once they got there, there was a long line. "Oh I wish we got here sooner." Complained Pearl. "We don't have to wait, because I know people we can just head to the front." Buffy got out of the line and motioned for Dinah and Pearl to follow. Once they got to the front Buffy introduced them to her best friend. "This is Ashley, and she's gonna check you in." Buffy then began to walk away before Ashley said. "Hold up this is my actual job and you cut in front so... sorry friend but you do it." She took a drag on her cigarette. "Fine I'll help, do you guys have your registration forms?" Buffy held her hand out waiting for the forms. "Oh yes all my information is right here." Pearl said happily and handed Buffy her sparkly pink folder. "Umm ok... and Dinah?" Dinah took out a plain blue folder and gave it to Buffy.
"Okie Dokie lets see..." She looked over the papers then showed Ashley while chuckling. "Umm whats so funny?" Dinah asked a bit worried. "All four of us are gonna be roommates!" Buffy said excited. "Oh thats gonna be so much fun!" Pearl squealed. "We can stat up late and watch moves and talk about boys!" Ashley added. "Make snacks!" Buffy suggested. "Ohh it sound like so much fun!" Dinah bounced up and down. "Let's go and see our room!" Pearl started to follow Dinah then looked over at Buffy and Ashley who didn't move. "Aren't you guys coming too?" Pearl asked. "We can't we have to work until 3:35p.m, but we'll be there in about 45 minutes." Buffy called back and sat down at her chair. "Well me and Dinah are just gonna go see our room."
They waved good by and skated in the direction of there building. The building served both the boys and the girls on opposite sides of the dorm. This one was for engines and 1st and 2nd class coaches. When they reached the building both of them we shocked at how big it was on the inside. "Wow, so you're telling me that I'm gonna live here for the next 4 years of my life?" Dinah was breathless as she looked around.
"Hello! Can I please see your dorm forms ladies?" An older sleeper asked. "Oh yes here." Dinah quickly handed over hers and continued to look around her new living space. "Here's mine." Pearl gave hers too. "Thank you and here is your welcome bag because you are new. And your room is on the 3rd floor." The sleeper handed the girls small beach totes with some other things inside and a small keychain with there keys on it. "Thank you miss...?" "I'm Memphis Belle but please call me Miss Belle." Belle smiled at the two girls. "Well thank you Miss Belle!" Dinah beamed and went to find the elevator with Pearl. "This is so fun right? We're gonna see our room now!" Pearl said excited as she pushed the up button. "Well we can't get too excited, we don't know what its like so we can't say anything for sure." Dinah pressed the button for the 3rd floor but little did either of them know what was in store for either of them.
