"Dance with me."
"...hu-"
Widen chocolate eyes took in a flash of spiky silver hair before being spun onto the dance floor. Before her brain could process the situation, her body had already appropriately responded by grasping her partner's shoulder and moving her feet in sync with his lead.
Tenten looked up then to meet the crinkled eyes of her Hokage. A scowl and narrowing of her eyes quietly asking 'What're you scheming.'
"Ah, you see, the Mizukage has, um, trouble keeping her hands to herself while we're at this wedding and she's sorta...looking for a husband..." Tenten glanced around searching for the beauty and sure enough, said Mizukage did look like she was getting handsy with a very flustered Iruka.
"Poor Iruka-sensei, too polite to run away. You owe me for this."
"Just take it as doing your duty and saving your Hokage." Kakashi said as he twirled her around expertly. Not missing a beat, Tenten gracefully followed his lead before retorting:
"But that could be the future Mrs. Hokage-sama. " That almost, almost, tripped Kakashi up, but he wasn't the 'hip and cool copy nin' for nothing.
"Your jokes need working on." Tenten softly chuckled as she knew it had gotten a rise out of him.
"It could be worst."
"No doubt"
"How long do you think you could hide?"
"As long as I have you hostage."
"..."
The song was slowly coming to an end and Tenten racked her brain on how to slip away.
"Don't even think about it. Iruka just disengaged himself."
"Hokage-sama..." she whined.
"No need for the sama."
"..."
"Excuse me, may I cut in?" The pair turned towards the intruder. They were met with a sunglasses wearing shinobi, Ebisu.
"Sorry, Hokage-same promised me another song." Tenten smoothly lied as she pulled Kakashi further towards the middle of the dance floor. Weaving around other dancing couples, Tenten made sure Ebisu was out of sight before slowing down.
"What-"
"He thinks I like him, contrary to what I've told him. Just because I gave him a hug after receiving some good news. He was closed by and I couldn't contain my excitement so impulsively I hugged the first person I saw. It's not my fault he's so sensitive. Now he got it in his head that I'm just playing hard-to-get. Are all you men like that? How many tim-"
"Tenten!"
She looked up and smiled at him apologetically.
"Whoops, guess I was rambling again."
"Guess you owe me now." He smirked.
Mouth agape "It's not the same thing!"
Tenten couldn't fathom how she got into this situation. Weren't there anyone else Kakashi could've engaged in dancing, but he did just save her from her pursuit-er/stalker. She look around again to see if the Mizukage has found a new target. Well this was interesting, a very panicked senbon chewing jonin was briskly making a beeline towards them. And right behind him was a very determined Mizukage. She sported a Cheshire Cat grin as her eyes focused on the back of said panicked jonin. Tenten turned them slightly so Kakashi could see the play.
"Kakashi, you-"
"Find your own hostage."
Tenten "..."
Genma glared and quicken his paces to find a new escape route. Kakashi chose that moment to dip Tenten to help the jonin buy some time and block Mei's path for a moment. He gave Mei a smile under his mask.
"Ah, Hokage-sama, have you seen Genma-San?"
With a tilt of his head in the opposite direction he said "I saw him go that way."
Before Tenten was fully upright again, a puff of smoke lingered where the Mizukage formerly stood. Tenten couldn't help but chuckle again.
"She can't be that bad." Tenten said with a giggle.
"She said we can register our marriage today if I'm interested."
A strangled noise came out of Tenten, somewhere between a snort and a laugh.
"Congratulations?"
Kakashi did not reply, only pinching her with the hand currently resting on her waist. She let out a full laugh then, seeing as how she got to him again.
"As much as I enjoy helping my Hokage, I can't dance all night long." They were now going on three songs and her feet were starting to hurt a bit.
"Is that Ebisu I see..."
Tenten took a step closer towards Kakashi, using him as cover, and swiftly glance around looking for her stalker. Seeing no sign of said stalker, she glared upwards.
"Liar"
"Am I?" He spun her out and who happened to come face to face with her but non other then said stalker.
"Eep" Just as quick, he pulled her back in and held her tighter against his chest while giving Ebisu a little wave.
"Where did he come from..." Tenten mumbled against his chest as they continued to sway. She felt his chest tremble as he let out a low chuckle.
"Looks like I'm not the only one registering for marriage." He joked.
"Not funny."
The song came to an end and before they could continue into the next song, an announcement came on asking everyone to take their seat for the cake cutting portion.
The two broke apart and went to their respective table. Tenten made sure to sit between Ino and Sakura, leaving no room for any disruptions from a certain stalker. Tenten took this opportunity to rest her feet. Who knows when she'll be taken hostage again.
The wedding carried on, dinner was served and people started to go back onto the dance floor. Ino left first with Sai. Then an over enthusiastic Lee came by to ask Sakura for a dance. A creeping sense of danger rose within Tenten. She was now like a small prey in a wide open field. The hair on the back of her neck started to stand up. Like a frighten bunny, she quickly stood up and darted towards the Hokage's table. As if he had sensed her coming, Kakashi was already out of his seat and waiting with an outstretched hand. She didn't bother grabbing his hand, instead opting to throw herself into his chest and wrapping her arms around his waist. Instinctively he closed his arms around her.
"How far behind is he?" She whispered.
"Less than a foot." He chuckled. He lead them into the crowd of dancing couples.
"When will he get the hint?"
"Maybe another month."
"Argh...I will never hug another man again."
"Aren't you doing that right now..."
"No, this is dancing." She smiled up at him innocently, as if he didn't understand the difference.
"Uh huh."
They danced for a while in comfortable silence before Shizune came by and asked Kakashi to come see the other Kages off. Signaling the end of one potential threat. Tenten took this time to go to the restroom. She should've brought a friend because who else, but Ebisu was waiting for her afterwards.
"Ah, my bunny, I see you're running again. Do not worry, for I am a patient man and will continue the chase. We will see the morning sun together as we grow old. You see..."
Tenten could only face plant as the rambling went on and on and on. She had no idea what crazy notions he was spouting, but it was time to high tail it out of there. Slowly she inched he way around him, hoping he wouldn't notice, but he did. So he threw his arm out in an attempt to embrace his little bunny. Well, she wasn't a kunochi for nothing so she easily evaded his arm. Ebisu changed directions to try again, faster this time. Back and forth they went..until he finally found an opening. Yes! His arm was behind her and all he had to do was close the 2 inch gap and pull her in. Too bad all he got was air as she was twirled into the arms of one silver haired Hokage.
"Oh, found you, Tenten. It's the last song. Let's go." Kakashi pulled her away while sporting a smile and crescent shaped eyes. Ignoring the crying shinobi behind him.
"What's that in your hand?"
"Explosive tags."
"..." Now it was his turn to be speechless.
"Could've gone out with a bang. It is a wedding after all."
"I doubt Hinata would have appreciated that."
Tenten only shrugged with a bemused smile. Hey, a girl's gotta do what she gotta do.
"Well, see you at the next wedding." He said as the last song came to an end.
"Yeah, yeah, it's a date." She replied sarcastically earning a chuckle out of him.
