Visenya could remember it like it was yesterday. The screams, the smell of smoke and blood. The day she lost her family.
It had started out as any other night. Her brother Rhaegar was away in battle, fighting those who wished to usurp her family from their throne. Her father was locked in the throne room, with only his most trusted knight, Jaime Lannister, keeping him company. She was not allowed to see her father, as she was a distraction that he did not have any interest in. Visenya was no fool, she knew her place in life was as a future tool for a treaty. Whoever could offer her father the most bannermen, the most treasures and resources, she would be their prize. Targaryens normally marry Targaryens, except in special occasions. Her older brother Rhaegar married Elia Martell of Dorne, to create an alliance between the two kingdoms and keep the peace. Her younger brother Viserys, is already bethrothed to her newly born sister Daenerys, to keep the bloodline pure. The fate of herself though, was just as a pawn to keep her father's kingdom secure. Rhaegar wanted to change things. He always spoke of, when he became king, she would have a choice, so would Viserys and Daenerys. They could marry for love instead of power. He is the prince who is loved by many. He would rule, by listening to the complaints of the people, and helping them as much as he could. Under Rhaegar, there would no longer be battles, blood spilling on both sides, the blood of the people of the Seven Kingdoms.
Visenya was wandering the halls, having finally been released from the clutches of her Governess. At 5 name days old, she was expected to learn how to properly be a lady. Her lessons were all day, every day, as she learned how to be the best bride she could be. She was to be married off by the time she was 16 and until that time, she was expected to spend her days learning to be a proper lady. As she was wandering down the halls, the castle around her shook, knocking her to the floor. Screams filled the air around her, and a handmaid came running from behind the tapestry to her right.
"Princess! We must go. Now. The Baratheon force is here!"
A Baratheon soldier, came up behind the handmaiden and struck her down before reaching forward and grabbing the young princess dragging her to the throne room. Her eyes find her fathers crumpled body, with a sword still in his back. As her eyes find the sword, she realizes she knows that sword. Her eyes find Jaime Lannister, her fathers trusted knight, covered in blood and sitting on the steps before the throne with his hung down. Her eyes search the throne room and she sees her mother, crumpled to the ground, still in her dressing gown, with blood around her. Visenya realizes sadly that both of her parents are dead. Her eyes then take in Elia cradling Aegon in her arms, as Rhaenys cries into Elias back. She does not see her little brother Viserys or her little sister Daenerys and all she can hope is that they are safe. The throne room door, bangs open, and in walks a mountain of a man, with a black helmet on his head. She had heard the whispers of this man; he frightened the men who served her family. The Mountain they called him, and seeing his size, she believed everything she had heard. This man, this monster, walks right up to Elia, yanks Aegon from her arms and throws him at the wall. The screams rang through the throne room, from herself as well as Elia and Rhaenys. Rhaenys' screams end as the monster grabs Rhaenys and chokes her with his two hands, her feet dangling uselessly in the air. He turns his eyes onto the grieving mother on the ground, and in front of Visenyas eyes, he rapes Elia next to her dead daughters' body before he finally gives her the satisfaction of death. Then he turns his eyes onto Visenya. She turns her pleading eyes onto Jaime Lannister, who still had not looked up. Jaime Lannister, who had always been kind to her, who protected her when her father had his bouts of madness. Surely he would not let this monster hurt her too. Right before The Mountain reached her the throne room doors clashed open again. In walked one of the rebels, Robert Baratheon. He looked around at all the dead bodies, and laughed. The Mountain turned away from Visenya and walked to the man who followed Robert Baratheon in, Tywin Lannister, someone who until today, was believed to be a supporter of the Targaryen dynasty. Visenya feels hands on her arms and she turns around startled, seeing Jaime Lannister gripping her arms.
"Visenya you need to run. I am sorry for your family, your father was out of control and I had to do something. I will not have your death on my hands. Run and never look back! Go now! While they are distracted."
Visenya turns from the hall and runs through the servant hallways. She runs through the kitchens and finds a handmaiden hiding under a table.
"Princess! Oh my gods, you are alive."
"We need to leave, now! My family is dead, the castle is lost. If we stay we will die."
The handmaiden grabs Visenyas hand and runs from the kitchen dragging her out of the castle, through secret passages, and out the castle to the beach. There on the little dock, was a man loading crates onto a small boat.
"Sir. Please sir."
The man turns towards the handmaiden before glancing at me. His eyes widen as he realizes who he is staring at.
"Sir the castle has been taken, only the princess remains. The other Targaryens have fallen. The Princess Visenya needs to be safe. Will you take her with you? Get her out of here before she falls to the same fate."
"Aye, I will take her. My name is Davos Seaworth and I will take great care of the princess."
