Newts P.O.V

They had sent a kitten for some reason. WICKED sent a small brown and gray kitten up in the box. No one had asked for a kitten and yet there it was. Sitting in a cardboard box looking up at them with big brown eyes. Newt jumped down into the box and picked up the small furry animal.

"What should we do with it?" Newt asked, the kitty put its tiny paws on Newts shoulder and tried licking his face. Newt smiled a little bit. "We can't just ignore it. Where should we keep the little thing?"

"The Homestead would be a good place to keep it, and it seems to like you, Newt, so you can take care of it." Alby suggested also jumping down into the box.

"Alright, but we all need to make sure it doesn't get into any bloody trouble." Newt agreed. Everyone thought it seemed a good plan so they helped Newt get out of the box and started unloading the rest of the supplies for the week. Newt put the cat in the cardboard box while they unpacked and sorted supplies checking over his shoulder every once in a while to make sure it was still there.

"I think this is for the cat," Gally said holding a bag of cat food out to Newt.

"Probably, thanks." Newt picked up the kitten, grabbed the cardboard box and cat food and took them all to the Homestead. Newt set the box and food on the ground and sat down on the edge of his bed. "What should we call you?" Newt looked at the small kitten sitting in his lap, it looked up at him and meowed. Newt noticed there was something written on the inside of the box. He set the cat on the bed and picked up the box, the words said: Her name is Callie.

"Well I guess that's what we'll call you." Newt decided. Frypan called for lunch so Newt picked up Callie and went down to the picnic tables.

"Ugh, Newt, get that thing away from the food." Frypan complained, "There's going to be hair all over it."

"It's not a thing, Fry, she's a living animal, with a name." Newt replied, but he put Callie down near the tables. "Stay, we don't want you getting lost or into trouble."

"Hey, are you talking to that cat?" Gally asked as he sat down with his food.

"Possibly, is that a problem?" Newt replied, Gally shook his head and Newt went and got his food. The cat got a lot of attention during and after lunch which she seemed to enjoy, no one really had a problem with Callie but no one knew what to do about the small ball of fur. So Nick decided to have a gathering, despite how unnecessary everyone thought it was.

"Why is it a problem that we have this kitten here?" Winston asked, "It was sent up in the box, we don't know why but we have the cat now and it's not like we can just leave her to die."

"It's not a problem that we have a cat, the problem is that we don't know why." Nick explained, "We don't know why these WICKED people sent us a kitten, it could turn out really badly if we aren't careful."

"It's just a cat," Alby said, "The little thing isn't going to hurt anyone, the worst that can happen is it scratching or biting us. Nothing bad will happen, no matter what you're thinking." Nick sighed but obviously wouldn't give up.

"What does everyone else think? What should we do with it?" Nick asked, scanning the room. There were a few shouted agreements on either side but there wasn't an agreement on anything.

"Honestly, as long as it stays out of the kitchen and away from the food, I don't care what happens." Frypan remarked. There were some murmured agreements about locations and then silence, an official decision hadn't been made on what to do about Callie.

"If I keep her away from any trouble can we keep her?" Newt asked, who had been silent up until this point. He had been quietly holding and petting the small kitten as he watched everyone argue about what to do as if she were an inanimate object that no one needed.

"If you feed it and make sure it stays out of trouble then by all means keep it." Nick replied, "But if it dies, that's on you." He walked out leaving everyone in silence.

"Well, I guess that means we're keeping it." Alby said, "What's her name?"

"Callie," Newt replied, there were a few questioning expressions, "Her name was written on the cardboard box she came in." There were nods and everyone drifted out to continue the day's work.
