CHAPTER 1

It was cold, very cold. The Life support has just given out, and Shinji had trouble breathing. He closed his eyes for a few minutes just to be woken up by the sound of banging and rumbles. He was starting to have trouble keeping conscious. The Plug then began to unlock from the EVA, and slowly slid out from the socket. He quickly rose up and opened the hatch. Dirty LCL began Pouring out as Shinji climbed out. He hacked up the orange liquid and rubbed it from his eyes. He took a look around, and gasped at the sight. All around him, ruined buildings and dead plants. He took in the sight and came to a conclusion. He had failed. He slowly started to cry as he began to break down. "Oh god… Ms Misato… Rei… Asuka… Toji and Kensuke… I FAILED YOU!" He screamed at the top of his lungs and sobbed. He slammed his fist on the side of the Entry Plug, where It made a loud sound that echoed across the dead city. He slowly got up and took another look at the city he was in. It looked strange… It did not look like Tokyo III. No, in-fact it looked rather older, and more colorful than Tokyo III, well as colorful as you can be with rust. He then looked to the sky where he saw something flying in the distance. The sound of helicopters could then be heard. He then began flailing his arms in the air to catch the Helicopter's attention.

After a few minutes the Helicopters got close enough where he could see the blades spinning. But as they got closer he saw its weapons locked on him. He saw a Metal looking humanoid manning the Minigun. Out of fear he raised his hands behind his head. Then he heard a voice coming from the Helicopter. "Unidentified Individual, You are now under the possession of the Brotherhood Of Steel, do not resist and you will not be harmed!" Shinji did not hesitate to do as they said. The Helicopter then began to land, as more began to arrive. Shinji could understand English, but not a whole lot. Metal Man then stepped out and pointed at Shinji. "You there! Keep your hands where we can see them and slowly get down here!" Shinji Complied and slowly tried to climb down the shoulder of the EVA. But he then slipped due to the LCL still on his feet. He was about to hit the ground, when a person caught him. "Careful kid!" It was the man in the Metal Suit. The man then got a closer look at Shinji. "Wait… You wouldn't happen to be Chinese, would you?" He set Shinji down and pointed his weapon at him. "Ah, N-no I'm Japanese! I come from Tokyo III!" That didn't make the man put down his weapon. "There is no Tokyo III, Who are you?" … "I'm Shinji Ikari, Pilot of Evangelion Unit 01! I am 14 years old and I am under NERV Jurisdiction… I-it's part of the UN!" Shinji looked around. "Uhh… W-where am I?" The man then slowly put his weapon down and face palmed. "Christ… Look kid, You are in the Boston Commonwealth of the former United States of America." Shinji looked confused. "I didn't know Second Impact hit America this hard…" … "Second Impact? The country was nuked about 200 years ago. Back in 2077. The damned communist Chinese nuked us."

Shinji was even more confused. "I don't think I'm where I'm supposed to be… I'm supposed to be home in Japan fighting Angels… It was 2015 when I left…" The Armored man then sighed. "Its 2287… Just stay right here, I'm calling in a Scribe." The man pressed the side of his helmet and spoke to someone. Shinji looked around and saw something shambling towards them. Another man in metal armor came out and shot the thing, Its head exploding in a bloody mess. Shinji saw and was disgusted. He gagged and puked in the grass next to him. "Send in a medic as well, I don't think this kid can handle the gore, he also appears to be covered in something that smells like blood." He walked over and patted the kid on the back with his metal hand. "I may be starting to believe you kid. Most Children here wouldn't bat an eye to seeing a feral ghoul get killed. You lost your lunch at the sight of it." As Shinji finished hurling up his lunch and wiped his mouth. "What… What was that thing that he killed…" The armored man turned to look at the corpse. "That was a Feral Ghoul, Its an Irradiated being that was mutated, too essentially live for ever, but this one lost its mind."

Soon a few more Helicopters landed surrounding the Large purple Evangelion. And from one of them came out a man in a leather jacket. He was talking to one of the people next to him who was in a red robe. "So Danse, Is this the Pilot of this "Thing"?" Danse saluted and nodded. "Yes sir, This is Shinji Ikari, he claims to be from Tokyo III and to be part of a UN sanctioned group called NERV." The bearded man then studied Shinji for a moment. "You speak good English for someone from Japan." He sounded suspicious. "Uh-h back where I come from, they teach basic English in school and they needed it for my position…" The man raised an eyebrow. "You sound pretty jittery… You good?" Shinji shook his head. "I may have just ended my world… I was fighting something that is called an Angel. They are giant monster like beings, and this one was kinda like a shadow that swallowed me up… And here I am… They told me that if an angel breaches the Geo-front, then all of humanity would die…" The man Nodded slowly. "My scribes have pondered the idea of alternate worlds, so this may be true. However, We cannot allow you to have this "EVA" Roaming around. We will need to bring it to a secure location. Id like you to get inside it and follow us to a place." Shinji rubbed the back of his head and sighed. "It only had 5 minutes of operational time, without a Power cable. And to charge it you'd need about… 600 Volts AC to start charging it. It has this port on the back for this. Ms Ritsuko taught me about the systems, so maybe I can help you… As long as you don't make me fight in it…" The man looked confused at that statement. "I thought it be every young boy's dream to fight in something like that. Tell me, why do you not want to fight?" Shinji looked away for a moment then sighed. "I was forced to, they said I was the only one, they say only those born after Second Impact could pilot a unit. And you apparently needed to be compatible with the EVA itself." The man nodded again. "Well we won't force you to Fight in it, I cant say the same for outside of it. Come with me. Oh and by the way kid. My Name Is Arthur Maxson. I am the Elder of the Boston chapter of the Brotherhood of Steel. We don't usually go out of our way to protect certain people, but that thing you pilot, we need you to help keep it safe and away from raiders and civilians." He gestured for Shinji to follow him, and Shinji complied.

They then boarded the vehicle. "Have you ever been on a Vertibird?" Shinji thought about it for a moment. "Is a Vertibird a type of Helicopter, because my friend Kensuke might know." Maxson nodded. "It is. We will be heading to a Settlement nearby and then I will send you with someone who is a good friend to the Commonwealth. For the Time being until we can figure out what to do with you. We cannot allow this EVA to be in the wrong hands." Shinji slowly nodded and boarded the aircraft. He sat down to the rather large man. The Vertibird then began its engines and slowly took off. "I-I don't want to ask for much… but… Could you help me find a way home?" Maxson turned to look at him and sighed. "No promises, but we could look into it. For now lets work on securing you and your robot." The Vertibird then flew over the buildings of what Shinji had been told called Boston. They went Northeast of there and landed in a small looking town that looks like its been Jerry rigged. Maxson stepped out with Shinji following him. A man in old revolutionary war outfit came out holding a strange looking rifle. "Ah Arthur, is this the kid?" The man said approaching Maxson. "Sure is Nate, Shinji this is the savior of the Commonwealth: Nate Hanson." Shinji Quickly bowed in respect to the man. "Pleased to meet you Shinji" Nate said awkwardly.

Shinji stood straight and looked around while the two men talk. He saw a boy in a striped shirt staring at him. But as soon as Shinji looked at him, he quickly walked away. "Alright Shinji, why don't you follow me, We will get you checked out by a doctor. And we can do something about that blood smell." Shinji nodded and followed Nate to a Shack with the sign saying Doctor. A woman with a pixie cut came out with a lab coat. "Ah hello Monsieur Hanson, Who have you brought here today?" Nate gestured over to Shinji who was caked in dried LCL. "This is Shinji, We need a medical check up on him, he was the one that was in the Giant robot that landed here a month ago." Shinji turned to look at him in confusion. "Wait, I've been here a month?! It felt only hours ago that I was Tokyo III!" Shinji looked out towards the door into the distance. "It didn't feel that long…" He felt someone tap his shoulder, why don't you go get clean up and get undressed. I'll show you to the showers, and if you need help I'm here." She then led him to a wooden building where he hears water running. She pulls out a towel and robes from one of the lockers, and handed to him. "Here, there is some soap inside, now go get cleaned up." He nodded and went inside where he saw a few people in there, he saw a red haired women and black man in different stalls talking to each other. "Cait, did you hear about that purple robot that appeared a month ago?" Said the black man scrubbing his legs. "Oh yeah, apparently the brotherhood wants whats inside it." she said with an Irish accent. Shinji slowly walked over to an empty stall and turned on the shower. "Oh someone came in." Cait said looking over to the stall Shinji was in. "Oh he smells like blood, yeah I can see why you'd want to shower now." Shinji looked over and blushed, and quickly looked away. "Uh yeah… its LCL… It smells and tastes like blood…" Shinji said looking flustered as he saw her breasts. Cait noticed this and pushed her breasts together to try and tease Shinji. "Ah so you like what you see?" Shinji blushed harder while washing off both his suit and hair.

"Knock it off Cait. Hey kid, the names Preston, and this one is Cait." Shinji got out most of the LCL when he answered. "I'm, Shinji Ikari… I'm the Pilot of the Purple robot… Its called Evangelion Unit 01…" That got Cait's attention. "Oooh What do you fight with it!?" She was practically leaning over the divider to speak to him. "U-Uh.. I fight whats called angels… But this time I got trapped in one, and now I'm here… I'm supposed to stop something called Third Impact, in which all life on earth will die…" That made Cait give a concerned look. "Damn, not even kids here have to do that, and they fight for their lives." Preston then spoke up. "I thought angels were servants of god." Shinji shook his head as he stripped off the rest of the plug suit. "These ones, are trying to get into something in our base. They are giant creatures, apparently similar to humans in DNA." Shinji blushed as Cait stared on in wonder at his story. "U-Uh, could you please look away?…" He said meekly. Cait complied and went back to showering. "I bet you get lots of girls for piloting that thing!" She said scrubbing her hair. Shinji then shook his head. "No not really, I live with two women but one's my superior and the other is my fellow pilot. One likes to drink, and the other is better than me…" Cait quieted for a moment. "Oh… well, at least you have the robot." … "Not really, all its brought me is pain, I never wanted to pilot it. But I had to, or they would make this injured girl do it." Cait grimaced along with Preston. Then came a knock at the door. "Monsieur Ikari, are you OK?" Shinji was brought out of his daze and quickly looked at the door. "Y-yes! I'm OK…" He scrubbed off the sweat and LCL and turned off the shower. Preston and Cait gave Shinji a concerned look but ultimately went back to scrubbing as he got dried and dressed. He came out of the showers wearing a Faded shirt and black slacks. "This really itches." He said scratching himself. Curie giggled and told him to follow her.

They arrived in a shack with lots of bed and wounded people. Some of them had limbs blown off and some had infections in their cuts. Shinji tried to not pay attention but then caught glimpse of a child who is missing a few fingers. She then led him into a private room where he sat on a bed. "OK, so tell me any medical problems that you may have." She pulled out a notepad and sat across from him. "Uh.. I don't have any allergies… But I have some scars." He pulls up his shirt to reveal a large round dark spot on the center of his chest and two smaller circles around it. "I see…" She gently pokes the largest scar. "I'm going to begin your exam now."

After a bit of poking and prodding, she let him out back into the settlement, told him the results , and told him to go find Nate. He looked around trying to find the tall man but couldn't find him. He then saw a robot trimming the dead hedges. "Uh.. Excuse me?" The Three eyed bot turned to look at him. "Ah hello there young master! How may I be of assistance?" Shinji was surprised to hear someone call him master. "Uh, do you know where to find Nate?" "AH of course! Follow me right this way!" The robot then ushered Shinji over to follow him. Shinji followed him past a market and into a large metal building. They walk up to Nate who is talking to a person wearing a News cap and red coat. "Mr Hanson, I've brought the boy that asked to see you!" Nate turned around and smiled. "Ah Shinji, so what where the results from Curie?" Shinji nervously looked at him. "She said said I had, low blood oxygen levels, and that my scars were superficial." Nate furrowed his eyebrows in confusion, as he looked at Shinji, who then raised his shirt to reveal two slightly dark patches on his stomach and the same large spot on his chest. "I got these while fighting the angels in the EVA. I also have one on my eye lid." Nate nodded while looking at him. "I see… Well I want you to do something. I used to be in the US Military Before the War so I can teach you how to survive." Shinji lowered his shirt and looked away. "I don't know… I'm not that strong… and I don't like pain… I doubt I'd be good at this…" Nate sighed. You are definitely not ready for the wasteland…"

Another Evangelion Story, and I know the pacing is a Lil fast, but Ill probably fix it later.
