Soulmates are real. 83% of Earth's population has one and .5% actually have two soulmates although usually they only find one of them. The first words spoken to your soulmate are somewhere on their body and they appear between the ages of 12-18. The words look as thought they are written in black ink but if the words are red, your soulmate is dead. When the words are spoken they travel across your body to the back of one of your hands where they form a matching intricate design to show that you've found your soulmate. This design is in many countries also considered to mean that you are married regardless of if you ever decided to actually submit the paperwork or not and it is forbidden to get a tattoo on the back of your hand because of that.
CHAPTER ONE
Journal,
I have decided to write down my life from the day that everything changed right up until the current time. Why? Because there are several people who are really interested in knowing all about it and I don't feel like telling it multiple times so...yeah.
"Sheppard, there is a call for you." Lin, the dojo owner, hollered from outside of the small changing room where I was getting dressed in my street clothes.
"Okay, I'll be out in a second." I called back as I finished tying up my black combat boots, curious what John wanted. I knew it was him because he was the only one I had given the dojo number to but I was surprised that he had used it, this meant he really wanted to get a hold of me right away.
"Hey John." I said, picking up the phone.
"Randy hey, look I need you to come home. I know you haven't been gone that long but something has come up and - well I can't talk about it over the phone." John said, sounding calm but there was a hint of excitement in his voice. Knowing that John wouldn't ask me to come home for anything he considered unimportant I nodded forgetting he couldn't see me for a second.
"Can you do that?" John asked prompting me to reply verbally as I remembered that he couldn't see me nodding my head.
"Yeah. I'll be on the next flight home will you be waiting for me?" I asked, needing to know where to go if he wasn't.
"I'll pick you up from the airport, see you soon Wolverine." John said causing me to grin,
" See you soon, Nightcrawler." Our secret way of saying goodbye after we had watched a particularly freaky science fiction movie about alien's taking over people's bodies as kids. We had decided to use secret words and phrases just to make sure that we were still us. After hanging up with John I called the nearest airport and booked the first flight home before leaving the dojo and speeding to my hotel room packing was easy since I hadn't put anything away and I was boarding the first airplane back home within the hour.
"Excuse me, Miss. We've landed." A pleasant and slightly amused female voice said close to my right ear, breaking my concentration from the book I was reading and causing me to glance upwards in surprise.
"Oh, thank you." I replied, giving her a slightly embarrassed smile before marking my spot and putting my book into my carry-on bag I walked out. After going through the metal detector I headed straight for the glass doors that lead out into the parking lot when I saw a familiar face waiting just inside of the doors.
"John!" I called out smiling as I waved to my twin brother while jogging over to him.
"Randy! Thanks for coming so fast. I have a ride for us." John replied, giving me a quick hug before motioning for me to follow him as he led the way to a waiting black vehicle parked at the curb. I was surprised and curious to see an unknown woman and General Jack O'Neill sitting across from us as John and I slid in.
"Hello General." I said, giving him a smile and nod before turning my attention to the women as the General introduced her.
"Randy, this is Doctor Elizabeth Weir. Doctor Weir, this is Randy Sheppard. John's twin." I noticed an amused smirk on the General's lips and raised an eyebrow as I turned my attention back to the newly introduced Doctor Weir.
"They didn't tell you I was a woman, did they?" I stated more than asked as I held out my hand. That seemed to snap her out of her surprise and she gave the General a look before giving me a warm smile and shaking my hand.
"No they didn't." Doctor Weir replied, sounding a bit flustered.
"Um not to be rude but shouldn't we be going?" John asked from beside me.
"Yes, you're right. Mark, let's get going." General said, turning to speak to the driver.
"Why exactly am I here?" I asked, wanting to get straight to the point.
"Before we can tell you anything you'll need to sign this." Doctor Weir said, handing me a clipboard with a thick group of papers stapled together on it. Raising an eyebrow I glanced down at the paperwork and turned to John,
"Is it all good?" I asked him motioning downwards, he nodded and I took the pen that the General offered and flipped to the last page where I needed to put my signature and signed it before handing it back to a surprised Doctor Weir.
"Sooo I'm here because?" I prompted.
(Two Hours Later)
"Okay so let me make sure I have everything straight. John and I have a certain gene in our DNA that allows us to activate and use Ancient technology that was created by Atlanteans who came here years ago by the use of a Stargate, which is a portal to other worlds. You, Doctor Weir, are planning to make a trip that is quite possibly a one way ticket to the lost city of Atlantis which is in another galaxy and if it works you would like me to go along to not only help with activating anything that may need the Ancient gene but also to help with learning and translating the Ancient language." I said, compacting everything that I had been told in the two hour drive to the home John and I shared.
"Yeah, that's basically everything." Doctor Weir replied, giving me a nod.
"Okay then, I have only two questions. First, can I take whatever I want?" I asked excitedly as I thought of all the amazing things that I was sure to see, and the cool adventures I would be a part of.
"Well you're only allowed to take one personal item with you." The General said before Doctor Weir could speak.
"General, I'm not military, everything I take is going to be personal." I replied dryly causing him to pause and then laugh.
"That's true. Tell you what, you can take whatever you can carry through the wormhole." The General said after thinking it over for a minute.
"Great, then the only other question I have is when do we leave?" I asked excitedly, causing John to chuckle while the General smirked.
"Have everything your taking packed within the next couple of hours and John will drive you to the base. A Doctor at the base will have to give you a quick physical check up and then in thirty-one hours from now, our journey will possibly begin." Doctor Weir said, sounding as enthusiastic as I felt.
