That was how things usually went. But in the end, I was the only one who was able to keep him calm. Stark would say something stupid and I'd get in front of Loki before he could stab him.

One particular night Stark crossed the line and said he was basically responsible for the death of his mother. Normally I would stop Loki, this time I punched Stark in the face. Loki left the room and I went after him. He locked himself in his room and me out of it. I knocked on the door.

"Go away!"

I sighed but didn't leave. I sat down outside the room.

"I'll be right here." I said.

He started yelling at me but I just tuned him out. After a while he fell silent and after a little more waiting I used my powers to open the door. He was lying on the bed with his eyes closed. I assumed he was sleeping so I turned to leave.

I turned back but his eyes were still closed.

"I thought you were sleeping."

"Can't sleep. I never can."

I looked down.

He smiled a bit.

"A few months ago you wouldn't have hit Stark. You wouldn't have sat outside my door or waited to see if I was alright. The past few weeks you haven't looked at me as though I were a monster."

"I've gotten used to you." I told him.

He was directly in front of me now.

"No."

"Loki, remember I can and will beat you."

He smiled briefly.

"Thank you."

One look at him and I knew he was being sincere.

"You're welcome."

His face was so close. If I were being honest with myself, Loki was an incredibly sexy man. I felt his hand touch mine as I looked into his eyes.

He sounded almost dismissive but I said good night and left.

Loki's POV

No other woman had ever had this effect on me. She was the first real friend I'd ever had, but deep down I knew I felt more than friendship for her. I closed my door and walked to my window. Natasha had put our rooms next to each other. I lightly touched the wall that separated her room from mine.

A few days later, after another of Stark's parties, myself, the Maximoff twins, Natasha, Barton, Thor, Stark the captain and Rei sat in the living area. A game called Truth or Dare was started and it was Wanda's turn. She was quiet but very close with Jade.

Rei's POV

His eyes held surprise and relief.

"You're not a monster. I'm sorry if I ever made you feel that way." I said.

I moved my hand and then wrapped my arms around him. He was very still for a minute before slowly putting his arms around me. He held me tightly and lowered his forehead to my shoulder. When he leaned back he stroked my cheek then slowly smiled.

"Truth or dare?" he asked.
