Chapter One: Percy Jackson
This was not the first time in the past two weeks that Percy uneasily felt like he was being watched. It happened when he was at home, at work, out on a date with Annabeth, shopping at the mall…
And whoever was doing it was good. That feeling at times lasted for a duration of months. Percy was pondering whether he should tell Annabeth about it—
"Percy?" Annabeth raised a brow, interrupting his thoughts.
They were seated on a ski lift gondola high up in the air, going back to the top of the hill. Underneath, skiers and snowboarders were gliding down the snow, some racing to the bottom while others timidly ventured, their first times.
"Yeah?" Percy met her gaze.
"You've been distracted lately. Is everything ok?"
"I th- think, um everything's ok."
Annabeth pursed her lips. She totally wasn't buying it. Why would she?
The gondola neared the ground and Percy braced his feet for impact.
And as the feeling remained, neither was he.
Wally West
Since he was a kid, Wally had been obsessed with cars. Toy cars as a toddler, remote control cars as a child and as soon as he'd gotten his full license he'd started driving. Now he was one of two co-owners for "Driftas 4 Toronto."
He was one of many in a large crowd. They were in an empty lot for shipping containers which had been inactive for some time. Barriers were set up in a circle protecting the crowd. Four police officers all stood on opposite sides. Atop a barrier was a flag that read "Driftas 4 Toronto," in gold.
Terrence, a close friend of his was the announcer this afternoon holding the megaphone to his lips on a raised podium.
But everyone's attention was on the low profile 2021 challenger with a lime green finish. The driver revved the engine and the exhaust roared, plumes of smoke momentarily shrouded the car.
"Yo! You see those chrome Nutek rims?"
"They're unbelievable sis."
Two girls gushed over the car.
"You are all welcome to the DFT car meet! Before we start, let's just recall that Wally West with the help of his friends initiated this league 3 years ago. Originally it was intended as a means to keep tweens, teens and young adults from low-income neighbourhoods out of trouble while enjoying their passion. And now it has expanded to become province-wide! Now let the drifting begin!"
A few teens around Wally nodded appreciatively at him. And it did feel good seeing his old neighbourhood this happy.
A gorgeous dark brown woman in her mid-thirties with short curly hair caught Wally's eye. She waded through the crowd her eyes locked on Wally.
"Wally West, I'm Lynn Pierce." She gave him a friendly smile. "Sorry but I'm gonna have to take you away from this. I wouldn't do that unless if it's something very important."
"Nice meeting you Lynn. And don't worry; I can always come to another meet next week. We do them weekly."
"We need to talk." Lynn nodded behind Wally in the direction of the road. "My car is on the side of the road."
Lynn seemed to sense some distrust because she paused and blankly stated while they strode, "I'm Black Lightning's a.k.a. Jeff Pierce's wife."
"Ohhh! Cool."
