For all the MCU fans. I'm back with a new story. I got this idea in my head and needed to write it down to see what you think of it. I thought I'd give this fandom a shot considering I haven't written anything based off of the MCU before. Based on an alternate timeline for Avengers: Age of Ultron. It starts off being before the events of this movie with my ocs and the Maximoff twins and then eventually leads into the main plot. Please let me know what you think, feedback is best to see how I'm doing and if I should continue. So if you could leave a quick comment that would be awesome. Thank you and enjoy!
Finally the time has come where myself and my childhood best friend are going to be on vacation without our families. I was so excited that I couldn't contain my emotions when we got onto the plane a few days ago. Honestly though, the excitement wasn't just based on us going by ourselves or the fact that it's a new country, or even knowing we'll be away for a couple weeks. It was more because our parents actually agreed to it after a lot of persuasion from them being so protective. Of course their protectiveness is justified after seeing what happened a few years ago where there was an attack from an alien invasion in our home state of New York, and unfortunately this made our parents a lot more strict than they already were. However, we used that experience to put into perspective for everyone that we only have one life to live and shouldn't waste it.
This invasion was massive and the only way we survived was because of an inhuman and combat based team called the Avengers. They literally fought their way through the attacks to save us and I don't know about anyone else but I'll be grateful for the rest of my life. Seeing how that huge portal came out of nowhere into the sky above Stark Tower, Iron Man's own personal building was insane, but what was more insane is the way the aliens were relentlessly seeping out of it like a black hole was spitting them out and onto our city. Luckily Iron Man himself was one of the people on this team and was helped by Captain America, who we all believed to be dead for the last 70 years when he crashed a Nazi aircraft into the ocean in World War II. Now that is a long story for another time.
Then you have the remaining people on the team. Thor, who literally is the god of a completely different world called Asgard, a green man-giant called the Hulk, a woman named Black Widow and her work partner Hawkeye, who both have combat training and were employees for a secret organization called S.H.I.E.L.D. All of them working together makes it safe to say that we would not be here if it wasn't for them.
This day changed all of our lives but allowed us to broaden our horizon. Being born into a coven of magical beings and living off of the craft of magic is the only life we have and ever knew, so it never seemed fair to not explore or learn more. Myself, Madison James and my best friend, Archard Arias have always felt like we were missing something and this will be the time to figure that out. We were born a few months apart and grew up in Brooklyn, New York. This led to being homeschooled in order to learn our family magic and trust me when I say that having to hide our powers from everyone except other witches and wizards isn't the most ideal childhood. We were secluded into a neighborhood that was mostly our kind while here and there mortals would move in, so we'd make friends but since we were homeschooled they'd go off and make new ones while we were always left with the people we grew up with. So here we are years later at the age of 19 where Archie and myself were given the opportunity to go on our own and see the world from the mortal standpoint without guidance for the first time. We of course promised not to use our powers in front of anyone non-magical and only for emergencies, but that wouldn't stop ups from having fun.
Now the cool thing about magic other than it's well...magic is that whenever I use mine it turns blue. I'm telepathic, so I can read people's minds and even sense a bit of emotions. I can also shoot out blue fire from my hands. Having pyrokinesis is a power that runs on both sides of the family, while telepathy is one that I was just born with. My parents think that down the lines of our family generation someone must have had this power too, but it's such advanced magic that it's rare to see. That includes my coven where there's a handful of telepathic people. Whereas Archie on the other hand we can't necessarily see his magic, but sometimes a hint of green will spark from his hands when he uses his telekinesis and can also see the future. He inherited both of these from his mom while stopping time is from his dad, who sadly died from cancer when Archie was 6. Those two powers however are limited. His premonitions are occasional because he can't control them, while his freezing ability only lasts about 10 seconds depending on how focused he is. The only one he's able to use often is his telekinesis which if I say so myself is probably the best part.
"Maddie, look."
I hear his voice but I'm staring around the area we are standing just absorbing the city in a country I'd never traveled to before. There's a lot of graffiti on buildings and homeless people sleeping on the floor. It's not New York City but it definitely feels like it. I can hear the thoughts of everyone who passes me and it makes my brain scatter a little bit. No matter how long I've had this power for it's still hard to focus sometimes. So once I process fully that he was talking to me I turn my head to him and see he's pointing towards a wall beside us with a large drawing of Iron Man, a rich man who built his own robotic armor and is able to go against heavily armed people and machines. He is the symbol of what America thinks is a hero ever since he appeared, but to the people in this country he seems to not be a hero because around the drawing there's hateful words and a large X painted through him.
"Sokovia seems to not be fans of Tony Stark." I say to him, now feeling out of place as an American.
He half smiles before grabbing my arm gently, "One day we'll be the heroes. We have powers, why can't we be like him?"
I stare up at Archie now, his soft brown eyes are pouring into my gray ones with excitement. His dirty-blond hair is lighter in the sun, the scruff on his face coming in compared to his usual clean cut look from being here for a few days now, and the scar grazed on his tanned cheekbone is always so noticeable. Every time I see it I remember the day he got it from when one of our friends accidentally hit him with their magic as kids. This happened during one of our practice sessions and he ended up with stitches. This boy has been by my side since we were born and the fact that he's here with me now too makes me feel safe.
I smile softly, switching my brown ponytail from one shoulder to the other. "As long as you're there for the ride of our lives to become heroes, I'm so down."
He smiles at me, "Can't get rid of me that easily." He now pulls on my arm a bit, which stings slightly because my skin is a little red from being out in the sun for the last few days. I of course forgot to bring sunscreen but I don't show that it hurts as he lets go and walks off deeper into the city of Sokovia.
Of all the countries to explore, this country isn't well known. I've always wanted to go to Europe, no doubt about that, but anyone who knows me would have thought more along the lines of the United Kingdoms. Those people can tell you my obsession with Harry Potter is pretty intense, as cheesy as that sounds being a real life witch and all. But the beauty of Sokovia has made me want to come here and see it for myself. They've been through hardship and wars just like we have and it seems right to step foot into this new atmosphere. So I take a breath and try to relax as I follow beside him, not wanting my power to swarm my brain with random people's thoughts to the point that it can drown me. When I'm overwhelmed it's hard to control so I try what I can to focus on one mind at a time as I walk. Mostly my own.
After a while of walking and sightseeing I'm a little tired as the night starts to creep up on us. I'm about to call it quits so we can go back to our motel when a swarm of thoughts catches my attention and makes me have to grab my forehead for a second from the sudden pain. The thoughts are angry and ready to kill. Then I feel Archie grab onto my arm as he asks if I'm okay but I'm not staring at him, my eyes are focused off to the side not too far away where a beautiful light complexioned girl with long light-red hair and wearing an all black dress with long sleeves is standing. I also notice a cute boy with skater-like silver and black hair is standing beside the girl with the same skin tone as her, a bit of a scruff to his face and is in an all black tracksuit. They both look to be around our age and are hanging with a group of what seem to be soldiers of Sokovia.
"Them..." I say between gritted teeth from how much anger is absorbing into me, "So much hate."
He turns his head their way now, watching the group of people. "The soldiers?"
I nod, taking a breath and close my eyes to listen more to this group of people. None of them are physically talking but their minds are practically racing, so scattered it takes a lot to sort it out.
"I'm so sick of these superfreaks." A man's Sokovian accent echoes into my mind, not sure specifically who or what he means.
"Strucker should just start over." Another man's accent comes through now.
"Protect them or you're all dead." Someone else adds in what sounds like an annoyed voice.
"They are a protection team." I say as I inhale deeply and I open my eyes again before staring back at the group of soldiers. I don't take my eyes off of them until the red-headed girl stares my way and I switch my gaze up to Archie.
"A protection team for what?" He asks as he looks down at me now.
"You two need to stop leaving the compound." A deep accent echoes our way, giving me chills as he sounds like he's in charge and very upset.
I take a painful breath, not feeling that much anger and hatred for a long time. "I..I don't know. But one of them said something about superfreaks."
"Superfreaks?" Archie says in confusion, his head looking to the side now and I follow his lead.
"Strucker, we just want to be able to go outside. We're tired of waiting at the compound till something happens." The silver-haired boy says with his arms crossed over his black tracksuit jacket to a man with monocle glasses on his right eye.
"We want to test our powers in the real world, not in your lab." Now the redhead says, both of them having a Sokovian accent as well but they sound so young.
My mouth drops when I hear her say this and then look away before they can notice we are listening and grab onto Archie a bit. This has him look down at me again, his eyes bulging. "Did they just say..."
"That they have magic." I finish his sentence in a whisper.
"Holy shit."
The talking from the soldiers dies down now, which means we don't have long before they leave. "Those kids are like us."
His face is slightly scared as he stares at me, but I know he's trying to stay calm for my sake. Obviously I can read his mind so that's not exactly helping me, but I would never tell him that. "We have to follow them."
I blink at him slowly because there's no way he just said that. "Arch...we are in a foreign country. We have no idea what they'll do to us if they realize we heard that. They probably don't want to be found."
"Maddie, their magic could be something completely different from what we've seen. We came here to explore and learn. We have to try."
I take a deep breath, my best friend is adventurous that's for sure. Then I nod, knowing that anything with magic is fragile but also learning more than our own is something our coven has been doing for generations to help us survive. "Safe distance to follow until we can find something solid."
He nods in agreement, smiling at me with reassurance. "If it gets sketchy I'll freeze time." His voice cracks a little bit as the scared tone in it makes me a little nervous. It's his idea but I don't blame him for being scared. We are sneaking after people with weapons and combat training just to see if we can talk to the magical kids. All we have is our magic and using our powers against innocent people isn't our code.
I glance quickly at the group of soldiers to see that they are starting to move now so I look back up at him and he smiles down at me as I grasp his hand in mine. "We got this."
He smiles more and kisses the top of my head, "Let's do it."
...
We follow the group of soldiers for a few blocks, trying not to alert them of our presence. Every once in a while we stop and act like we aren't following them but once we get to a section where they get to an alleyway it becomes impossible to be less stealthy. This is when we know we are in trouble because once they seem to notice we are here they turn around to us with their weapons aimed our way in seconds.
Both of our hands shoot up in surrender just above our shoulders so they know we aren't going to attack and try to explain that we weren't doing anything. However, the soldiers don't seem to be listening and yell at us to get onto the ground. With our hands still in the same position I see Archie's fingers move slightly, not enough to be noticed but enough for him to use his powers. That's when all the soldiers stop in place and are no longer moving or speaking, frozen in time. I look around for both of the kids but realize they are nowhere to be found.
"Come on!" He grabs my hand knowing we don't have a lot of time before they unfreeze so we bolt back the way we came from.
A fresh breeze passes us almost immediately and the silver haired boy is in front of us as if he came out of thin air, smirking. "You didn't see that coming?"
I gulp, not wanting to use my powers on him because he's like us. "You have super speed."
He smiles and nods, "And one of you knows how to freeze time."
"That's not all we know how to do, pal." Archie says as he lets go of me now, "So let us pass before your friends unfreeze."
The boy smiles again, but it seems a little forced. "Not going to happen my friend."
"Then I'm sorry for this." I say as I raise one of my arms out and point my palm downward to release blue flames out of the palm of my hand and it scatters in front of him. But before it can settle into the ground completely it's like an orb of red absorbs it and it gets swiped off to the side and into a cement wall.
Footsteps come beside me so I turn to look and see that it's the redhead. Her eyes are glowing a dark red, her hands presenting orbs of dark red magic from her palms. Her head is tilted a bit as if curious but she looks angry. Her mind however sounds calm, friendly even. She's hoping we don't keep attacking because we'll get hurt. "You shouldn't have done that."
Before I can react I hear Archie's voice yell to get off him. I don't have time to turn my head to him because then I feel myself get tackled to the ground and I grunt from the impact of the concrete to my ribs. That's when my hands get pulled behind my back, cuffs sealing around my wrists and a cleave gag is forced into my mouth with a knot in the middle. My eyes widen in fear before I notice the sadness of the girl's concerned eyes when they go back to her normal blue color and see that her hands are no longer glowing. I muffle out a scared scream for help just as a bag is thrown over my head and everything goes dark.
