Academy City the most advanced city in the world and its technology is said to be 20 or 30 years ahead of the world. This place is where the greatest minds of the world gather to further the development of espers individuals who are capable of using supernatural powers.
One of those espers is a boy named Accelerator the 1st-ranked strongest esper in Academy City.
A skinny teen and has pale skin, moppy white hair, and red eyes in a wearing choker-style electrode to aid him with mobility, computation, and communication, and a white long sleeve shirt with V patterns holding a crutch.
"Honesty, this city never gets boring ." the white-haired boy monologues while walking down an alley after defeating what seems to be deviant thugs attempting the mug the number one.
He continued to walk through an alleyway unfazed by the attack.
"What do you want have I not made a clear example earlier." the boy announced noticing his stalker. His follower revealed himself to be a man in a well-dressed business suit. Accelerator concluded him to be a liaison for the Dark Side.
"Well well looking good Accelerator it's it" the man grinned as he introduced himself.
"What do you want me to next kill more clones, so is 2000 not enough what you want me to kill 3000 no a hundred thousand what does the dark side want me to do this time, don't forget what happened to the last dog you sent me" Accelerator spatted threateningly fed up having to put up with the Dark Side.
"We want you to attend a school" the liason answered him. Accelerator's facial expression was surprised but then replied.
"School is that some new fancy code word for some new fucked up experiment you freaks decided"
"No, really we want you to attend a school"
"Really a normal school since when did the Dark Side of Academy City care about education and what's the point what part of number one don't you get"
Accelerator argued at the absurd offer of the man as he started walking which seems to be in a good mood.
"Let me elaborate there is a new advanced high school in Japan that is said could rival the likes of Harvard and other world prestigious schools and even more advanced than Academy City. One of the higher-ups of both Academy City, the school directors of said high school and the Japanese Government want an esper to attend its school for many benefitting reasons." the man explained to Accelerator as he followed him with a small hint of fear as the last man who gave him an offer was attacked barely clinging to life.
"Sound's retarded plus there are other people more suitable and plus it may not look like it but I am not psychologically stable enough to be with other people."
"Is that so? what if we told you in return for attending we would modify your collar to increase the amount of time it can remain active for"
"Wha...!"
"Have I got your attention now Mr. Top Ranked" the man smiled at his surprised expression.
The offer was tempting. After an incident that leads to a gunshot in his head which lowered his abilities he has to rely on that collar that allows him to use language, as well as making up for his lost ability to make calculations and to connect to a network to allow him to go into esper mode, When using the network in esper mode, the battery of the electrode initially only lasts fifteen minutes.
"Why me and how do I know your not messing with me" Accelerator stopped walking and faced the man behind him.
"Well let's just say you espers you included have unique past and the people in charge of this project only want to study one thing"
"And what is that one thing?" Accelerator asked.
"Psychological analysis we all know what kind of person you are and one of those in charge wants to know how an esper with your kind of background and personality would react in a normal situation all we have our theories and the only contact with the outside is on during operations, "
The man explained but was then grabbed by the collar by Accelerator and pushed him against the wall.
"You know your really fucking lucky you know that after such a retarded proposal you really got me on when you people could modify my collar but you really think I would go along with that stupid study of yours how do I know your not screwing with me or some unknown catch tell me who is in charge or I will make your body light up like fireworks." he threateningly asked the man with a face that screams tell me everything or you're fucked.
"Oyafune Monaka she is the one in charge of the project" The liason answered him while fearing for his life.
"Really that woman" Accelerator let him go and thought for a moment.
Oyafune Monaka one of the general board of directors of Academy City. The only person in a group of shitty bastards who only care about power. It's like a politician who actually brings decent and good change.
She is the only one who cares about the students.
"She and a group of psychologists want to do a study about espers outside of Academy City and that she wants to help you after knowing about your background," The man said as he tried to regain his composure. He then continued to explain.
"This project is on the dark side but not the dark side cause she just wants a way to help you know your background and use this as a basis for helping other espers. She was granted permission by the superintendent cause it can of course help him with future plans but really there is no catch. I mean it would be more trouble for us I mean you outside Academy City's borders. Not only that she would also offer protection for your family and pay all expenses for you and the people you live with ".
Accelerator thought about it for a while an upgrade for his collar, protection well he could do the protection but against a bastard who he can easily defeat with a lift of his finger but could take a lot of time off his collar but once he accepts the offer easy thugs and average Assasins are somebody else's problem while the real threat is for him to deal with. Money is not a big problem due to his compensation for participating in a lot of experiments and when he is desperate he is the number one he could he get money easily but he could give that money to his caretakers not because he wants to thank him for taking him in or anything so just because they won't be annoying and for also for that girl. Also, there is that chance he could have that normal life he wished for as if he attended high school anywhere in Academy City even if he managed to hide his status his power won't and that would attract more unwanted attention and will be a pain in the ass for him.
"Alright fine I am in just because of that payment and so that woman can actually get off my back".
Accelerator ended up agreeing.
"Good pleasure doing business with you I'll send more details to your cell" he was cut off by Accelerator.
"But if you bastards screw with me even if I see one small hint of you attempting to betray me and that woman I'll kill you all so bad your body won't be found and identified." he made an intimidating statement. He then walked away to head to his apartment.
The white-haired boy walking continues to think about the proposal of going to high school outside of Academy City all to protect that kid. Normal even in Academy City's standard is not a word used to define Accelerator he once had a "normal name" but forgot it. Spent much of his childhood in isolated special classes due to him not being able to fit in with the other children due to his powers, harming those that tried to get close to him. Around the age of ten, a particular incident with children escalated with Academy City being deployed against him, and he later "gave up", and was sent to a special class. This has made him something of a loner and distrustful towards other people. After some time, Accelerator was discovered by Kihara Amata a mad scientist who had no regard for human life, who trained him on how to control his powers and influenced him enough for Accelerator to adopt his personality. Accelerator's ability made him the subject of an attempting to create the first level 6 by killing over 20,000 clones of the third-ranked esper Mikoto Misaka in a variety of methods. He willingly joins the experiment to gain a reputation as the most powerful and feared esper so that no one would be foolish enough to challenge him ever again. Accelerator has already killed the first 10,031 Misaka Clones and until the experiment is ultimately stopped. He originally wanted this reputation simply so that no one would ever get hurt trying to attack him, resulting in their own destruction, though as he went deeper into Academy City's dark side his goals slowly became more and more twisted.
"Ughhh what the hell am I doing this for..." he complained as he reached home.
"Well whatever if they want me to pin against outsiders or whatever the hell the others are planning they will be all be wiped out, nothing is gonna stand in my way,
nothing is gonna bring me down"
He was then brought down by a frog plush thrown against him by a certain brat. A girl with chestnut hair with one unusual strand of hair wearing a blue spotted dress with a white coat and sandals.
"What took you so long say's Misaka as Misaka throws in a tantrum impatiently waiting for you" the girl who had an unusual way of speaking humorously complains as the knocked down Accelerator picked himself up.
"I got lost now get inside Last Order" Accelerator spatted as he opened a door to his apartment to which Last Order followed.
The girl known as Last Order is actually the 20001st, a clone of the third-ranked esper, that was produced for the experiment. Who apparently Accelerator dedicates himself to protecting her for reasons even himself don't know.
"Welcome back " He was greeted by the real owner of the apartment who Accelerator was just freeloading. Aiho Yomikawa who greeted him, a tall woman that has amazing proportions with long black-blue hair tied into a ponytail wearing a green jersey, which hugs tightly on her large bust. She took him in after the Experiment ended along with a researcher who worked with him.
"Hey what's wrong did you get attacked again well that's normal but what's with the face" Another woman with normal proportions then arrived at the scene and saw Accelerator's fazed expression. Kikyo Yoshikawa researcher now a freeloader at Yomikawa's apartment along with Accelerator. Wearing her lab coat over a plain T-shirt with faded jeans and sneakers. and has straight black hair cut short.
All four of them living in one apartment one could say this is a family a weird one at that.2 adult females with strange backgrounds Yomikawa and Antiskill officer the law in Academy City and Yoshikawa a former researcher for an unethical project that violates international Order a young girl who is actually a clone of Mikoto Misaka and lastly Accelerator a the top-ranked esper of Academy City who can survive a nuclear bomb.
"Listen I've been offered a job outside the borders of Academy City one that I can't refuse so I will be gone in a few months can you two take care of the kid in exchange they will give us compensation and they will upgrade my choker electrode." Accelerator explained hoping the three won't question much.
"Ehhhhhh where, why, what ? asks Mikasa says's Misaka asking the boy for answers" Last Order whined in front of the boy's face.
"What are you sure you want that kind of job again and are you sure they are not tricking you?" Yoshikawa asks suspiciously.
"Did they force you to do something don't worry I'll help you let me just get my armor and guns " Yomikawa said with pride.
"Why did I even have hope?" Accelerator asked in his head.
"Alright!" he increased his voice in order to get the three to stop bombarding him with words.
"One I joined nobody forced me, Two this is is not a job where I get paid to do dirty work, Three I'll be sort of a demonstrator they want Academy's number one to be present to show off to the outside relations that's all the reason why they can be trusted is that Oyafune will be in charge so no backstabbing and if she is then easy there will be a new opening in the governing board but the thing she has no reason to trick me."
Accelerator explained which the three understood little do they know he lied because it will never be the end of it if they found out he will just be attending school.
"Alright, when are you leaving?" Yomikawa asked.
"Don't know they will soon send me a message for more details alright what's for dinner?"
They all went for dinner at the table with Yoshikawa and Yomikawa sitting next to each other. Last Order next to Accelerator which seems to be playing with her food and Accelerator just eating in silence observing the situation. This is all happened because some bystander someone who just butted in and miraculously defeated him which led to the Experiment failing. He was then approached by Last Order which he ignored at first until he was kidnapped to implant a virus inside her in order to exterminate the remaining Misaka clones which were foiled after being saved by Accelerator but protecting her resulting in a gunshot to the head which led to his disability needing an electrode and a crutch. The question now is why did he do this and why would he go by all these means to protect this annoying kid. The thought was then interrupted after receiving a message probably from that liason.
"Hey no using your phone while eating said Misaka as Misaka scolds the boy for his rude behavior" Last Order scolds which was ignored by Last Order.
"I leave next week Friday," Accelerator said in the middle of dinner as he read the message.
"Alright before that I need you to be very fit starting tomorrow you will do 100 pushups carrying Last Order" Yomikawa commented.
"Okay now to request if I get to leave like right now" Accelerator whispered as he read all the details from knowing the legitimacy of the proposal to the school he is attending.
"I heard that," Aiho said.
Time passed after some banter and antics done by Last Order, Accelerator went straight into bed to sleep but before that, he decided to look over the details sent by the liason. Clear proof that Oyafune is in charge, Nobody will mess with him, He is only allowed in the school and places near him and other details. He then searched for information on the school he will be going to.
It is known as Tokyo Metropolitan Advanced Nurturing High School a school established by the Japanese government to nurture the young people who will support the country in the future. It boasts a 100% employment and college entry rate, and with thorough, state-directed teaching methods, it spares no effort in pursuing the nation's desired future. What makes this school unique from other normal schools even the ones in Academy City well except for espers is that they utilize what is known as S-Points one of the founding characteristics that largely contribute to the prestige of and the promising future of its students. However, the concept of this system is unknown. Basically from Accelerator's understanding, it's like in-game points a score in a leaderboard those at the top with the highest points are destined to get a good life graduating. He laughed at the idea with his experience in Academy City knowing that system is heavily flawed judging a person based on academic abilities it's no different from Academy City's propaganda that with hard work anyone can get to Level bullshit it's just gonna screw up those students with stress and pressure turning them into either sociopaths or psychopaths.
After criticizing how this system was doomed to fail and would only work for those who are lucky enough to have the right requirements. Even so, it's hard to take the education system seriously in this age when a person with a camera can make more money than students who graduated with straight As and other people with rags to riches stories and don't get me started on mental health Accelerator knew that more than anyone. He continued on to criticize the system in his head until he fell asleep.
Academy City like every other country has a dark side that is both harmful and beneficial to the country and other countries but Academy City's dark side is special as it refers to the criminal underworld of Academy City. Reaching to the very top of the city's administration, as stated, it is often engaged in criminal enterprises, such as human experimentation, espionage, and assassinations. People from the Darkness provide protection and security to important people and the various research institutions. This is born from the members of the Board of Directors and other important persons hiring personal bodyguards as well as companies and research facilities hiring private armies. The people the Darkness hire are composed by a variety of people, from individuals with esper powers and special abilities to failed students or persons who are selected for a specific purpose. Though each organization and the personnel in them have their own quirks and skills, somehow or another each of them has a dark past behind them. Much if not all operations are done within the dark side of Academy City is done in secret. This attribute has likely contributed to the unique subculture of the dark side of Academy CityEspers are either used for experimental purposes or are recruited to the dark side of Academy City. Accelerators were used for experiments in their younger days.
Maybe even a person like him a child who was raised in the darkness can maybe find some light if he tries to have a normal life even with limits.
In a certain office, a certain chairman is on the phone which seems to be Oyafune Monaka. The two seem to be having a conversation about Accelerator's enrollment.
"Yes, he will be enrolled next week I still can't believe Academy City is like that, and I thought the White Room was the worse form of unethical experiment on children. To think a child would go through that"
"Yes sadly I am powerless to alter such events as the one's on top are the one's who are backing such projects, thank you for allowing him to participate while this is a psychological study the main goal is to help Accelerator to prevent him from falling to a path filled blood and darkness"
"Yes I hope I can do everything I can to help such children"
"Very well may I remind you he may be a difficult person to deal with but for a person with that kind of background it's hard to blame him. Alright, I'll leave everything to you Mr. Sakayanagi.
