The ground twinkled with an iridescent white gleam as the sun reflected upon the beauty of the newly fallen snow, sheets of fresh white powder covered the ground, resembling something from a Christmas card. The kind of photogenic beauty that one imprinted onto their psyche so they could reflect on a memory in which they had felt so peaceful. However, the snow was much thicker than expected, it would take some time before it fully melted and cleared the ground. Covering nearby trees, plants and the ground making it almost unrecognisable. As expected, people were shoveling their driveways, paths and roads to assure the snow wouldn't block the traffic system or make their travelling too dangerous. Due to the experience with coping with such weather, snow tires, chains and rock salt had all come out of hibernation and was being put to good use. Maddie had decided it would be a good idea to take a brief walk while the weather remained briefly stable, enjoying the fresh air that came with snow clearing the atmosphere of pollution. She loved being able to enjoy the crunch of snow beneath her feet, admiring icicles on trees, frozen lakes and the chill of winter on her cheeks. Her inner child making the most of this time before it all melted and returned to water again. But she wasn't naïve to the fact that despite it's beauty, snow was indeed dangerous to those left unaware. Being in a flurry was dangerous especially when it was blinding your vision and possible dangers, aside from the obvious hypothermia, accidents could occur. Many traffic accidents, injuries and nature becoming deadly occurred during snow days. Sometimes people falling into the ice attempting to see if it was stable and show off. People having sledging accidents, being too aggressive while playing with snowballs and other antics. Unfortunately snow didn't discourage stupid people from getting into harms way, though it was amusing to watch. To avoid boredom and hiding away in blankets waiting for the snow to end, they had decided to make the most of things and have some fun. Both she and England had a fond memory of snow and a mutual understanding of the harshness of winters, due to their similar cold climates.
Alice was wearing blue skinny jeans cupping her petit figure and hugging her comfortably, a pair of green rubber wellies that kept her feet dry that looked painfully adorable in Maddie's eyes. Somehow thinking of Alice when she was younger, splashing around in a raincoat and wellies to her hearts content while her sisters kept an eye on her. A beige knotted wool jumper hung loosely around her hips and gave her little pawed hands due to the baggy sleeves. Shielding her from the cold and keeping her cosy underneath her layers. Alongside a green duffle coat with a wool lining and faux fur hood to add insulation and keep her dry from falling snow. Wearing a beanie and red scarf around her neck for extra warmth. She had fully prepared for the cold while making herself look comfortable at the same time, usually she wore a basic Tee and jeans or a suit when she was at meetings. Rarely did she dress so cute while casual and Maddie was loving every second of this.
Maddie had for once released her hair from its usual bunches, allowing it to fall freely to her chest, keeping her face warmer from the cold. Her strawberry blonde hair flowing down her shoulders and tickling her cheeks. She'd inherited her length of hair from England yet her hair type was as curly and wild as her mother France. To keep her head warm, she was wearing a matching red beanie atop her head with a white maple leaf on the front. Her figure complimented by a thick black turtleneck and blue jeans, showing off her long legs, curves and assets nicely. Matching with a thick red wool coat as well as a red scarf to match Alice's. Maddie tended to prefer wearing a hoodie and jeans but she enjoyed wearing jumpers, jeans and other items too when she was at home. So long as it was comfortable and it didn't annoy her too much.
Alice's gaze remained fixated on the surrounding landscape, taking in everything so she wouldn't forget this place when she had to return home. She felt as though she had fallen asleep and wondered into the magical lands of Narnia, just like the books she adored when she was a child. Feeling as though she was transported back in time to her adolescence, before her nation became the modernised chaos she had become so familiar with. So utterly in awe of the views, she hadn't had a winter like this in many years, so beautiful, so peaceful. Making sure to take pictures and selfies with Maddie to capture the moment, so she could reflect and look back on this magical moment in the future.
"You aren't too cold are you Maple?" Maddie asked in concern, snapping Alice from her daze. She noticed she had become rather quiet during the walk and though self reflection on walks was normal. She could see Alice's lips were turning blue and she seemed to be unresponsive, wondering of the cold was starting to affect her. If she was becoming too chilly, they could head back and warm up with some mugs of hot chocolate. She didn't want Alice to force herself to stay out in the cold weather longer than she could tolerate simply to make her happy. This was about the two of them having fun together.
Alice felt her cheeks heating from embarrassment, she'd been so self absorbed in her own nostalgia, she had been spacing out and completely forgot she wasn't alone. Instead of choosing to form basic conversation she had instead chosen to have a debate in her own mind while reflecting on her past. She felt like an idiot, behaving so rudely as to ignore her girlfriend. She didn't want to start an argument or create unnecessary worry due to her own forgetfulness "I…. no sorry pet…. I… It's just so beautiful" she babbled apologetically. Maddie smiled fondly, humming reflectively to herself, understanding how something so breathtaking could capture someone's attention. Feeling yourself get lost in the moment as if you were walking through a dream. The snow was indeed lovely to admire, she just wished it wasn't an overused stereotype by other nations, she had so much more to offer, especially with her countries seasons. But being able to share it with Alice, bonding over such a picturesque landscape together was a special moment. Alice buried her hands in her pockets, her fingers turning pink from the cold, cursing herself for not bringing gloves to warm her hands. Her coat would allow them to warm up quickly, shielding them from the cold and allowing circulation to return to her fingers.
Maddie peered at her girlfriend in concern, now wishing she had said something if she was struggling with the cold. She knew Alice had a habit of hiding things as to not seem problematic to others. She hadn't missed that Alice's hands were turning pink, the cold beginning to effect her nerves and causing her hands to change colour. Becoming worried that she was trying to hide it, as if it was something to be ashamed of. She slowly reached out to grasp Alice's hand while burying her free hand into her coat pocket. Smiling sweetly as she did so, not missing the look of surprise on Alice's face when she did so. Blinking as if she was trying to piece together what had just occurred, yet she didn't pull her hand away rejecting her gesture. She then leaned over towards Alice, giving her an Eskimo kiss, the latter's eyes widening yet filled with happiness "Preserving warmth eh" she teased. One of the many things she had inherited and learned from France was how to tease England, but never in a cruel way. Just enough to see her melt like warm butter on a pancake.
Alice felt her cheeks darken, her stomach twisting into knots as butterflies filled her being making her feel light and giggly. Sometimes she forgot how smooth Maddie could be despite her being a younger nation, having been influenced by France as well as her nature as the perverted ambassadress. Allowing her to behave charismatically yet respectfully when sharing her affection for the older nation. Knowing she would always be spoiled for love with her "Yes… indeed…" she stammered bashfully. They continued to walk down the path towards home together, their fingers intertwined in the safety of their coat pocket. But Alice smiled shyly, squeezing Maddie's hand in return.
