Sometimes, I wondered why I was born, why that question? Simple, it is because I am different.
See, a long time ago in Bistrița, Rumania there was a family, a very different family, the mother was a beautiful vampire, that's right, a monster, and the father was a simple human. Although they were different, they did not care and as a result of that love they had a daughter half human and half vampire.
Although they lived hiding their reality from society, they did not care, they danced, sang and thanked what they had. But the mother had a dream, that monsters were accepted in human society. Especially for her daughter, she wanted her little girl to be accepted in both societies.
One day the father and daughter went to the village and when they returned home they found it destroyed and the mother dead.
And the father with a broken heart ...? He did not want to allow his daughter to see him cry.
After losing his wife, he looked for a way to support his daughter and at the same time keep her safe. He started working and opened his bakery.
His daughter inherited her mother's vampiric powers, but thankfully she can go out into the sunlight and survive on human food, allowing her to live with humans and easily hide her powers.
At first they believed that it would only be the two of them, but the father met and fell in love with a beautiful woman and they got married, the following year they had a son. The four of them became a beautiful family, although the woman did not know the nature of the girl.
But again happiness came to an end, World War II began, terror began when the Nazis invaded Rumania. The father learned that Jews like him and his wife were being taken away, so they went into the forest to hide while the war ended.
They spent a few years there, one day the children went for a walk in the forest, but they saw the Nazis nearby and she quickly hid it, she knew that she could protect him with her vampiric powers but she did not want to risk her little brother of only three years. She just hoped that an eleven-year-old girl could beat them.
Fortunately, the Nazis left and the children quickly returned home, but they found that their house was invaded and they saw their father and the mother of the little brother taken away, that was the last time they saw them.
But the daughter, instead of crying, followed the example of her father, although she knew she was very young, she took her brother and raised him.
She decided to leave her childhood behind and began to sing in the street and do some magic tricks, it was the only thing she could do and she even took advantage of her powers by pretending to do magic. That way she was able to get money and support her little brother.
As time passed, the daughter was able to reopen her father's bakery and continued the business. She later taught her brother to prepare bread and shortly after her sister-in-law and her brother and then she taught her nephews.
In this way they managed to expand their father's bakery and become known in most of Romania.
The daughter may have suffered in her life, but her brother, family and her father's business were reason enough to carry on with her life for more than seventy years.
That's right, the daughter is me, Helena.
I'm over eighty years old but thanks to my vampire half I look like a girl twenty-three years old or younger. I had to leave the city for a while and come back after a few years with a new name and identity to avoid getting suspicious by humans.
I hardly remember my mother, but I remember my father's teachings and should never be ashamed of who I am and who I am. But I always wonder if someone like me really has a place in the world, for now I feel that my reason for living is my brother and his grandson, little Alex.
After the death of my mother I believed that I was the only monster left in the world, but one day, on a trip to Transylvania, a little walk with a friend would change my life forever.
